I don't remember stoplights on 35 in Norman, but there was a section on the north side of OKC between the I-44 toll road to Tulsa and the 44 extension (then Route 66) that was at grade. Landmarks along the way were the Frontier City amusement park (then a Western-themed tourist trap, now more a thrill park) and the Skelly Pro-Am Truck Stop (no longer there). It's been upgraded now, but I agree the portion between 40 and 44 is outdated. The at-grade route would have been 66.
Love the song choice on this. Nice video; it's great to see the final product of that I-35 widening project. Between Norman and OKC, I've sat in rolling stop-and-go congestion between the 2 cities during all 4 of my visits between 2007 and 2010.
Yep, the mall to the right at 1:02 was actually a dirt hill used as a firing range during WWII. They tore down that hill in 2006 to make way for the mall that currently sits there. Also when I was raised in the area, the freeway was just 4 lanes all the way through to OKC.
Oh that I could step into that recording, walk back to Norman, and climb back into my body in the house, I hadn't yet sold, to stay in that wonderful town I knew for 51 years.
The USA is so nice! Even this "nobody" city is beautiful. This "nothing" city alone beats most other countries imo You don't even have to bring up Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Seattle, New York City, Boston, Nashville, etc.
the bridge at 0:49 is finished. It is one of only two "Single-point" interchanges in the entire state. The other is off I-40 in far west Oklahoma City.
Good video. A little choppy/jumpy. Did you use the RU-vid stabilizer? It's usually makes road videos worse, IMO. Good catch on that Helvetica road sign- that definitely looked odd. Your signage looked GREAT, by the way.
Thanks! After I filmed this, I developed a new better, somewhat smoother setup. It's still not perfect, but it's improving. (As for the youtube stabilization, don't even joke about it, it's horrible. ) As for the signage, it's the Clearview. I made these signs in powerpoint, but for my next video I'm trying MS Paint.
this is weird, I-35 in Oklahoma is more rural than I-35 in Texas, yet the speed limit is 70 in Oklahoma and 75 in Texas. from between Austin and Dallas, thankfully, they had the sense to leave the speed limit at 70 most of the way. Especially 70 from between San Antonio-Austin. It's clogged up at times. It's 75 mph from Georgetown to Salado, 75 in Hill County, and 75 in Cooke County. there's actually more traffic in Hillsboro and Gainesville, than any town in Oklahoma. i.e. Ardmore, Edmond.
I was in Norman a few years ago to briefly drop this chick off. I had no idea how close it was to OKC! If I knew ,or was into discovering cities at that time, I would have checked OKC out.
Huh... Helvetica, that's weird. Maybe ODOT did that as an easter egg for road geeks, lol. Sharp eyes! Very nice editing. Lol I still suck at Vegas. Does the Platinum edition allow more functionality with track motion and more track numbers than the basic Movie Studio 11 edition? PS even with the video sped up I can tell you've got a bit of lead foot ;)
I think Platinum allows for 20 video and 20 audio tracks, as opposed to the 10 each on basic Vegas Movie Studio. However with road videos I doubt you need that many tracks anyway; the only reason I have platinum instead of basic is because I found it for very cheap online (even cheaper than basic, believe it or not!)
If I-35 in the 1960s wasn't interstate standards, it wouldn't even be I-35. It would just be a state or US highway. But in this case, I think that it was a US highway that was decommissioned or realigned. But I think that it was US-77 and was moved to another direction. Anyways, nice video
Just drove that rode yesterday, and would you look at that. Road Construction is STILL going on. And I think a drunk person designed the roads there. Not one section of that road was straight for more than a few seconds.
