No! It's worse! WAY WORSE than I ever could have imagined! Rush hour is so much worse than it ever was! The traffic is so bad and there are accidents here all the time now!
Interestingly, I used to live in that area so many of the roads are familiar parts of the old Durham freeway, us70, i85, i40. They were just starting to build the extension of the Durham Freeway to 70. Need to go back and drive it.
12:30 - 13:28 Whoever designed this road and thought that the entire Durham Freeway (147) Southbound should have to merge over two lanes to the left was an idiot! Rush hour on this road is HELL! It's also unbelievably dangerous! We never had traffic like there is now before the road was opened. Every day it backs up and every day there are accidents on the section between the merge point and I-40. It has easily added 10 to 15 minutes to my commute time if I take 147 South. Since when do you open a new highway to improve things and it just makes everything so much worse than what you had before?? They need to redesign the merge area. There are fewer cars coming from US 70 southbound on 885 towards 40 than there are coming from 147. They should not have the 147 South traffic merge over 2 lanes to the left - those lanes should continue south without their lanes ending. The traffic coming from US 70 should merge to one lane way back. Then the one lane should merge in with the 2 travel lanes coming from 147 South. They completely got it backwards. Also they need to finally do something about the traffic merging onto I-40 East from 147 South (now 885 South) and not have it go down to 1 lane right away, but have the two lanes merge onto 40, then just have one of the lanes merge onto 40 at first, and continue the left lane further. The road backs up so far onto 885 and there are constantly accidents near Cornwallis Rd and Alexander Dr, as well as Ellis Rd. It's awful!
i was born and raised in Durham...by east end ave and i moved to fl last yr july 8th and i told myself id be back to drive on road soon. i was supposed to go to durham 7/3 but i had a sinus infection so I didn't go but now i feel some type of way because the road is finally open and i didnt even know it smh lol
No need to comeback to this Durham or this crappy state in general. Florida is a free state. It sucks here big time. I will be Texas bound in 3 years. Dallas or Conroe to be exact.

@@ironfist458 yes i drove for uber there and itz nothing but people from ny, nj, pa and cali in durham now. one time i drove down a street in durham and every single license plate on that road was different... one even said Alaska! but the crime is what's keeping me away. every time i turn around somebody getting killed out there its crazy
@@lottiedottiewholikestoparty you’re so right it sucks seeing it. I respect other states but seeing those plates make me bald my fist up and shed a few tears. Now also don’t get me wrong I’ve made friends and even went to school with people from up North and out West originally, but they were down to Earth and not fake like the Yankee Doodles. Oh and even the Midwest Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio are invading too!
nope that was 147...they changed the area between 40 and the new connector to i-885 (lived there for 30 yrs) i-85 is where u can see old Northgate ect from
