This event sounds amazing! I hope the idea of repairing one’s garments instead of tossing them is becoming more mainstream. I wonder if part of the reason so many people have no qualms about purchasing disposable fast fashion is because few people sew anymore & have no appreciation for the labour & skill that goes into creating a garment. If more people had some concept of that work, maybe they’d slow down on mindless consumption & feel empowered to repair or create their own pieces

completely agree, sewing is such an essential skill and it’s sad it’s no longer commonplace, esp when it’s actually so much easier to pick up then people think!

Very cool concept! The closest one to me was 2 hours away and they were operating on a different model (a set group of volunteers doing a sort of “clothes clinic” rather than a public free for all), so I didn’t attend (this year.) However, I have been getting more into mending and making my own clothes lately, and the whole process has been illuminating. Every time you make something you gain more appreciation for the labor and skill that goes into an article of clothing, plus the necessity of caring for it. It’s a wonderful journey and I’m glad to see so many people jumping in!!!!

What a perfect timing, just recently I got into visible mending and have started upcycling some of my "broken" items ^^ It's definitely fun, even though the final result may not look the best at first, but there's plenty of inspiration on Pinterest, so even with no proper skills it is still a great idea to try and create a fun colourful stitching around a ripped cuff of that old sweater that's been hiding at the bottom of the "get rid off" pile ;) Love your videos, and good job with fixing your top! :D

ahhh i love this for you!! it's very fun to try something new even if you're not the best at it, my top is imperfectly mended but it works for me and that's what matters!
