Fun fact: to the idea of spiders having an angle when climbing and actually realistic climb/crawling (like the same that frogs tilt when going down a block but in all directions) mojang said it would be too scary. Yet they added the warden (something that would make you scream in terror) Btw that bone serpent thing for lava lake actually is already a thing in Alex’s Mobs :/ you can make a lava surfboard out of them tho :0

Ideas: I think the bone snake should not jump that high, but instead move slowly through the lava until it decides to ram the player or jump the bridge. Kind of like the reaper leviathan. If you can tame one, I think it should be able to protect items you drop on death from the lava.
@Ahnock
@Ahnock 29 дней назад
i definitely think the bone snake should be much more subtle. i think the spines peaking out is actually a little too much, rather it should be fully submerged, and when it notices a player it starts doing little arcs up then back down so the spines poke up above the waves then descend back below, so it's more like you're catching glimpses of it instead of it just always being a little bit visible
@whodis4097

I was thinking about Subnautica this entire mod showcase as well, a lot of good elements can be taken as an example from that game to make the mobs more more daunting. Horror isn’t something that’s big and in your face all the time. Sometimes it’s just the idea that there may be something you can’t see. That or he could make them a bit tinier, they look a bit too large for me.
@justanothermook6348
@justanothermook6348 Месяц назад
i feel like the nether is underutilized in terms of horror mods, yes the overworld is where you start out in and can be equally dangerous with some biomes, mobs, and terrain, but minecraft's equivalent to hell should _not_ be a getaway vacation. i remember someone making a super persistent, super dangerous mob in their mod command-block-based thing, a big bulky demon humanoid in armor that's super fast, can climb and also see you from far, far away. as mildly unfair as it was, i like the idea of making the nether a truly dreadful place... though to do that you'd probably need to overhaul the nether as a whole in the meantime though it's nice to see mods like this that realize the nether's scare potential and make it worth fearing quick edit: holy _shit_ that soul sand valley monster is actually kinda horrifying, with how it looks for you before trying to pull you into the ground and then giving full pursuit. and then if you defeat it - it doesn't even fully die! as it falls apart before pulling itself back together... fine idea, but it could use some tweaking. maybe instead of resurrecting on the spot, it instead retreats back into the ground and leaves behind a special item that could be used for some sort of special weapon, armor or tool (maybe a single soul breaks off from it and collecting it and using it for yourself allows that soul to fight for you or something?). though be quick about it since it'll quickly reappear elsewhere in the valley and go back to looking for you from a distance.

i like the idea of instead of it reassembling, each piece of it individually sinks back into the floor one by one before a hand comes out and pulls the skull back into the ground last. could even be a way to disable it for longer or even permanently kill it if it requires soul sand to move around in. you could lure it away from the valley before killing it, or clear out the soul sand under it while its trying to reform, and it would have to find new soul sand to get back into. pieces that don't make it back to soul sand would increase its respawn time, and if none of the pieces can make their way to soul sand, it becomes cut off from its source and dies for real.

I gotta say my favorite has be the soulsand creature, and I think one of the reasons is the amount of lore that emanates from it, specifically cuz of 4:02. I'm assuming this was purely for creepy aesthetic, but the skulls, candles, bones, and soulfire gave me strong ritual vibes. We already know resurrection is canon cuz of undead mobs, so why not base it off that? My idea for this could be how this thing is the result of cult-like practices. Built from the souls and bones of the damned, this cult of some sorts was able to bring life to this nightmarish beast, worshipping it as a superior being. When their 'deity' tried to kill one of them, all they did was grant it a sacrifice (via one of their own) in an attempt to please it and stop its bloodthirsty rampage. Thankfully, the creature would burrow underground and lie dormant until it desires more. Every time it returned, the cult would continue giving it sacrifices, however it'd always have to be more than before. Eventually, no cult members remained, later rendering this reanimated amalgamation to be too weak, as It has to be fueled by souls in order to function properly. For the actual gameplay, I like to think that this is an optional creature to encounter. In order for it to spawn, you must create a structure similar to what's shown in the video. But in order for the process to be completed, you must kill mobs within the structure's area (similar to a skulk catalyst) until enough souls have been sucked into the ground. From there, the creature finally has enough strength, immediately hungry for more lives. As for the fight, it works the exact same way it does here, except you can eventually kill it, it'll just take some time. With each time you slay it, it loses more of its power, becoming more vulnerable with each time it perishes. Eventually (by some indicator), the player will know to have to burn the body (not the limbs or head) of the creature via lava, stopping it from reanimating. If the player doesn't do this, the beast will put itself back together and retreat, forcing the player to redo the ritual if they want another chance. The incentive, however, is if the player succeeds, they'll be rewarded with its skeletal remains, being able to pick them up and use it to craft a special item of some sorts. Perhaps a new weapon, a set of strong armor, or something entirely different. If I were to give it a name, my half-baked answer would be the Necrogod (death + deity). I'm sure someone can come up with a better name for it though For the record, if I got a nickel for every time I gave lore to one of Josh's creatures, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice 💀that's all, have a good rest of your day!

itd be cool to have it be also kind of a punishment for lingering in the soul valley for too long, aside from natural spawns, when you kill mobs like skeletons and stuff in there, it could add a little particle effect of the souls being pulled into the floor, and if you kill enough mobs it spawns as a result, kind of like the warden spawning from making too much noise. since skeletons are the usual mob in there, there could even be some custom animation where their bodies bones are pulled into the floor on death instead of the usual "fall over sideways and then poof"

making it scared of or avoid certain elements of the nether would be cool, but having to make a new weapon whose one use is using it to damage this one mob wouldnt be very good balance for a game like minecraft. it'd be easier to just make it so it's only able to move through soul sand and soul soil, so you could avoid it by just leaving the biome altogether or getting up on top of the bones that litter the soul valley

I liked all of the ideas. The fit of them were perfect IMHO. However... there is definitely some need for optimization and fixing. The Bone Snake needs to not be one oversized model that rotates all together. It just looks goofy the way it is. The Soulsand monster needs fewer parts. It is waaaaay too complex for a casual MC mob. And it's not good to have it be immortal. The trees... they just need their walking animation fixed.

Some of these are bloody fantastic!!!! Actually amongst the best mobs I’ve seen. My only recommendation would be to stop the bone serpent from being able to change its trajectory mid-jump, because it’s unfair and looks silly. And also making the jump height, *much lower* limiting it to the lava a little bit more. Anyways, bloody amazing job. Edit: Another way to fix the snake would be to make it turn more slowly or have a cap/set speed on how fast it can turn around. :D

would be cool if the bone snakes were composed of a single head entity and multiple entities for the different rib-cage pieces so the snakes movements could respond more dynamically with the environment. The soul sand creature is just really cool. Although, it would be interesting if you implemented an inverse kinematic system for the legs of the tree and maybe made it so it leaned towards the direction it was moving. the entity shadow on the tree monster also made it more easy to distinguish from the surrounding blocks. maybe have it convert to blocks when it is hiding so all the lighting matches with regular blocks. I legit love the soul sand creature. You really put some crazy effort into it. We really need more reason to explore the other nether biomes and that would make a great addition. Although maybe i would recommend adding a way to defeat it ultimately. Like maybe getting parts from some other mobs to fashion a set of weapons that only work on mobs in the nether? I would even say you could make it have a second stage that only happens when you use that set of weapons. Make it a progressive mini boss basically!

@vacatemyautomobileimmediat9495 27 дней назад
First of all, all of these are really freakin' cool! So much effort clearly went into each one and you should be proud! Anyway, here's some feedback for each individual mob: Bone Snake: I really like this in concept, but I do have a couple criticisms. The main issue I have is that I think it's just a bit too big and bulky for something that can jump that high. It just looks goofy, especially when you have more than one in the same area and they all start popping up like massive piranhas. To be honest, I thought it worked much better when it slithered just above the surface of the lava like a crocodile, and not when it was jumping up like a dolphin. It really felt powerful and terrifying when it was slithering towards you like that. But when it jumped, it just looked a bit silly, like it was weightless. If you really want it to jump, I'd recommend making it considerably smaller, or maybe adding some sort of deafening rumbling sound for when it bursts out of the rock to really sell the impact a little more. The model does look sick though, especially the dorsal fin, and the texture looks really cool too. Also, I agree with your friend - taming and riding around on one of them sounds like it'd be a lot of fun. Soulsand Amalgamation: This one is far and away my favourite. The lore is really cool, the concept is novel and the design hits that sweet spot between cool and freaky. I love the fact that it burrows around, that's super unique for a Minecraft mob. I also love that you can see its shadow following you around as it chases you, and the fact that it occasionally pops its hands or head out of the ground to freak you out is genuinely scary. And the animation it has when it puts itself back together is just *chef's kiss*. It looks so smooth and natural, like the bones really are popping back into place with real weight and impact, and it's such a great "oh shit" moment for the first time you encounter it. Your hard work definitely paid off. That being said, I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that it's unkillable. On the one hand, having a mob that you have to run away from is pretty terrifying, especially knowing that it's just going to be waiting for you when you return. But on the other hand, I feel like that could be too punishing and a little annoying to deal with repeatedly, especially if you run into more than one. I don't know anything about making mobs this way, so I don't know how feasible this is, but maybe you could make it so it has a 50% (or maybe 60-70%) chance of regenerating every time you kill it? When you drop it to 0 HP, it doesn't disappear straight away, and its body lingers motionless on the ground for a second or two before either regenerating or dying. That way, every time you kill it, there's always this sense of dread where you're left thinking "is it gonna get up again or am I safe now?" Nether Wart Ent: This one is probably my second favourite. I love the animation for when it drops its disguise, the spider legs folding outward is super creepy, and the little demogorgon mouth gnashing at the bottom is just icky in the best possible way. There's also definitely something to be said for the fact that it's just so big. Very few mobs in the vanilla game get to that size, and I imagine that'd a creature that size appearing literally out of nowhere like that would be absolutely terrifying if you weren't expecting it. With that being said, its walking animation does look a little goofy. It's just kind of stiffly sliding around all over the place, and a creature with legs that spindly and spiderlike is just begging for a freakier walking animation. Maybe add in some freaky sound effects to really sell it, like creaking wood or maybe even some spiderlike scuttling as it moves.

this is wonderful, I especially love the soul creature and the tree mimic. they’re not quite ‘scary’ but they’re definitely creepy and intimidating, very fitting for the nether regardless. the bone snakes definitely need a bit of work, but even as is they manage to make the nether much scarier I’d recommend splitting the body into segments to help make it’s animations less janky (and also make it’s length adjustable) as well as giving it a more nuanced ai for when it targets a player (kind of like a ghast’s or a goat’s) all that said, I want this mod. badly.

These are cool and i would genuinely use this if some of the animations were refined. I aslo think a little bit of cursed flame on the soul stalker would be cool to add to the resurrected abomination theme, and the crimson ents would be immediately obvious with a texture pack unless you did some weird stuff with the textures but thats unavoidable

the soul sand mob seems like a fun idea, but defeating it (even if only temporarily) should warrant some kind of reward or drop. we don’t need any other dumb “dweller” that’s just there to never die and make your game unplayable ;v;

Hey I was thinking. So you know how there is a theory that the structure in the centre of the Ancient City is a portal. I just had an idea that perhaps you could make a dimension of Skulk that lays beyond this theoretical portal and have a mob in that dimension that is essentially an Eldritch Abomination or like this super Skulk god. That or could you design a mob that works as a boss that lives in the ocean because I feel like there isn't much in the oceans that can be scary other than the drowned.

Dang these mobs are incredible! The Nether is such a ripe place for horror mods, and it's a shame we haven't gotten a lot of that with the "dweller craze." If you ever end up releasing the mobs for us to play with, here are some ideas off the top of my head that you could consider implementing: Lava Lake Bone Snake: Maybe have it "stalk" the player for a while as its traversing a lava lake. When it's poised to attack, the sounds it makes can suddenly disappear, making its attack all the scarier. Maybe it could make a loud roaring sound when it pounces on a player, a roar that can knock them back both in game and in real life. Soul Sand Valley Creature: My favorite mob out of all of them. Maybe the soul faces attached to it can scream out when its attacking the player, as if they want you to help them separate themselves from the creature, but because their insane souls, their form of help could be slowly pulling the player closer to them if they stand still, like a very weak black hole. Crimson Forest Creature: To make it easier to find it, it can make eerie sounds when the player is near it but be hard to pinpoint. Its eyes could also blink randomly when it's in attack mode. The faux vines it uses to blend in could wrap around the player if they get too close. Once trapped, it could pull the player into its mouth where it deals damage to it. The player would need to break free from the vines to get away from it, with sheers being the best tool. Maybe if they die before breaking free, a jumpscare could happen with the creature's demogorgon mouth roaring at the screen, in a similar vein to The Man from the Fog. Again, these are just my ideas. These creatures are awesome, and I can't wait to see more content from you!

I love and hate these videos so much. Love because there's some cool ideas and concepts, HATE because it feels they never get finished or polished because they're rushed out for the youtube content mill, so coders feel the need to slap something together really quick and not take enough time to polish their ideas, so it just ends up as slop. The soulsand valley monster i feel was the most polished, but some of the animations needed work, i feel it's head needed player tracking, especially for long distance detection for stalking so it could be looking directly at you from 64+ blocks away, i feel it needed actual sound effects, or custom ones, and so much more to fully flesh it out. As for the other two.... so many unfinished bits, from sounds, to custom animations besides just movement, to needing attack animations (see the tree just having it's legs static as it walks into you to attack....). This videos always hurt my soul knowing some of these ideas are genuinely cool but will never be fully polished and finished cause it's for the youtube algorithm. The youtube algorithm is a blight to all creatives and coders.

to make the skeleton snake more complex. Instead of it just passing by swiftly above the lava surface. make it slow and only dive up to show it's spine so it seems more menacing and more stealthy. another thing to add is make the snake stalk the player slowly while they aren't watching and once they are close enough make a sound cue so loud to make the player shit bricks and to add with the spider tree is whenever they aren't active and is camouflaging with the trees, make it so it opens it's eyes to watch you menacingly but do it so whenever the player is not looking at them. Only the player can notice them staring is through 3rd person camera just for the thrill

All the mobs are great and creative, but I think the fear aspect can be amplified by a million if you change a few things, like I wish the bone snake was longer so you get the menacing feeling of the worm passing by like in terraria. I wish that when the soul sand guy pops out of the ground, he bends over and starts chasing you by pulling himself with his hands, and not just popping out of the ground and staying still like a freaking five nights at Freddy’s jump scare. I’d love if the tree guy had a leg animation when he chases you, and maybe realistic eyes glowing yellow staring at you when it peels down.

It would be nice to see the body follow the head of the bone snake for it to make turns rather than the whole body turning. Also, its hard to tell if the ent has a walking animation but I don't think it does with how little it is shown walking; it would be nice if it did or if it already does it would be nice if it is more noticeable and auditorily impactful(think rumbling on the netherrack and rustling of leaves as they walk) .. Other than that, these look great! Awesome stuff.

Most of the mobs this man comes up with severely outclasses those "dwellers" by a huge margin. Suggested names for the "soul sand whatever:" • The Amalgamation • Soul Reaper (yeah Bleach reference) • Mangled Spirit

For a birch forest, you should make a wendigo that can blend in! The wendigo will slowly stalk the player at night (at day it goes to the nearest pond to drink) and will mimic things the player has name taged. For instance, if the player has a pig that is name taged, the wendigo will periodically produce that sound. The wendigo should do 3 hearts if damage if the player doesnt have any armor. But so that it isnt 100% blending in, sometimes the player can spot its antlers poking out of the tree before the wendigo continues to hide. Just a thought ^^

I have this really weird hyper specific phobia towards video game snake-like creatures that are able to clip in and out of surfaces when moving, and or have movement animations that feel too slow for the creatures actual movement speed, or feel unnatural to me (which I believe came from a mixture of the Naga boss from the Twilight Forest mod, and the Reaper Leviathan from the game Subnautica. If you want a good example of the movement try looking at those large and long snake puppet avatars in VRchat that have that floppy rig thing, with actual scale textures. I literally cannot look at those avatars without feeling uncomfortable) so the bone serpent thing was making me extremely uncomfortable when it was going through the netherrack. Lol
