Clare a "Mortar" is an indirect fire weapon that fires a projectile shaped like a old movie rocket, by adjusting the angle of the tube it is fired from and the amount of the powder charge based on directions from a "Fire Direction Control" team. The type he was referring to would be a crew served infantry weapon which would consist of a firing tube w/base plate, aiming mechanism to adjust angle per FDC. Hope this shed some light on the subject for you. As for the air craft "war games" they simulate dog fights to improve pilot skills... corny way to explain it but movie "Top Gun" maybe that will help. As one who served I'm not so sure he had his shit together when he was in the Air Force.

oh the good old days of being in a combat zone. It's weird how you can miss them.

10:12 ... he's trying to describe the Thunderbirds, the Air Force's ariel performance team (precision flying in formations for show). The team he mentioned, the Blue Angels, are the Navy's performance team. The 'Blue Falcon' he mentioned is actually universal American military slang for anyone who's rather selfish and frequently puts themselves ahead of everyone else. In short, a 'buddy fucker', someone who trends to fuck everyone else over.

Not necessarily. Judging from the story, the aircraft commander would have been held accountable to whatever authority would have questioned what happened. The politician, in question, would have thrown a heluations tantrum, though.
