I'm happy you took the time to warn people that this technique can cause locking. I have clients who have started locs with this method. Your honesty is appreciated ❤
I experienced the same thing in my 4A/B hair. I had to twirl it a lot to get the root to set in the finger coil. Worst detangling session I had in my 9 years of being natural. Probably wouldn't do finger coils ever again.
@@ShadesofSage yes it does but when you have curly hair like this and you curl it really tight. I can start the process of locs. Which makes it really difficult when you go to detangle. Can cause a lot of breakage if you aren't careful. I know I've done it before.
Thanks for the wonderful advice, boo! You really have set the natural community on fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 on YT ever since you came back! You’ve been dropping gem 💎 after gem 💎 after gem 💎 and I absolutely love it all!
I have very tight coils and love to finger coil. I have found that water is not your friend. Just like doing any other protective style on your hair, you need to moisturize constantly and use a curl refresher while you have it. You cannot take a shower and drench your whole head, going swimming or anything like that. It’s then that the hair starts to lock. I also have the unbrush and find that if my hair starts to naturally lock, i can drench my hair, use lots of conditioner and brush out my hair from the very bottom to the top and it comes out easy. It basically is that you are shedding your hair but instead of it falling out on the floor, those weeks of shedding stay in your head and become tangles which turn into locks.
@@ananse77 hey lady 🤗. You would be surprised to know how many people do not section their hair first. And the fact I didn't see that, made me offer a suggestion to those who have not been that innovative yet ☺️. Love you. Hope your day is going well 😚
Yeah I think we’ve all made similar mistakes. I did some mini twists using gel at the roots and kept them in for three weeks, and some of mine started to loc up too and were hell to take out. We live and learn on this natural hair journey. ❤
I do this with super small flexi rods…if u can take the time to detangling in small sections with a product with good slip it’s a great protective style and take down is quicker than braids or twists…would love to see a wash day with this style. Def can’t go longer than two weeks. Great way to train ur curls if u also heat style.
My lil 4c hair tries to lock up in almost any style if I just leave it alone lol. But great tip! Just need to deep condition and finger detangle and then brush from bottom to top while rinsing hair. The finger comb method is fantastic, but 10 little twirls ain’t gonna coil much on my head, it would still be an Afro lol. Great video!! Thanks for the tip
You just should thoroughly detangle dust before washing. How to do starter locs is funny though😂. Washing immediately instead of doing a finger detangle with water and conditioner and then using a wide tooth comb is the solution when coming out of finger coils. Easy wash set up every time❤
Omg, the one time I tried this on my type 4 hair in high school, I wound up in tears because i realized this is basically locs 😭 Now I am happily locd as an adult LOL
Funny, I just combed out my sons almost locs yesterday. 😂 I took his twists down and he was so sensitive about it I just let him wash his hair and have break for 1 day. Just 1 day and his hair started free-form locs. He was like Samson with like 8-10 locs. Remember the hairs you lose every day, stay in the hair, and get matted. But her locs would've looked bomb tho.
If you don’t want fully coils and only want your real curl pattern present just coil the very beginning root don’t go down all the way not even half way just enough to separate the hair but leave it in a bigger block for the curl to form.
This happened to me the first time i did finger coils and ive never attempted them again 😅 also eventually realized i was twirling too much but i dont want to try it again
The style looked beautiful though ❤. I wouldn't have tried it anyway just bc my hair starts locking 6-7 days post and it's even worse when I twist my hair 😮💨 oh well wouldn't change it 😌
The very first and only time quite frankly I did coils it was beautiful but I did twirl too much and also almost had locs lol but for next time I know what to do Glad im not alone 👏🏽
How do I stop my hair from shrinking when it's dry? I'm a male with hair long enough to go past my eyebrows when I fully stretch it out and my curls look good when my hair is wet with water/product but the moment it starts drying up, it shrinks way back to my forehead.
I usually use a foam moose, and a holding gel, but my hair still shrinks, just not as much. (But note I have between 4a, 3c, hair, and A LOT of it is damaged from when I used to get relaxers, I do think it depends on how tight the coils are.)
so I just cleanse and condition my hair then after while still damp/wet I apply natural only oil and then use a bristle brush to brush sections of my hair from tip to root and my curls are uniformed close to this style. after I will lightly twist or braid to hold the smooth lay of my hair. I can undo and leave the house curly but smooth or easily straighten my head within 15mins
sometimes conditioning first then lightly shampoo after because curls but want to straighten hair without heavy load of product on my hair so heat isn't overrunning with product
