DeleriumLuke I'm pretty sure Illyria doesn't have a gender. And I'm also pretty sure that there's no "gender neutral" word for King/Queen, so Illyria uses the word "king"

+4Tom4lepus4 "Ruler" is more gender neutral than "King" but nevertheless Illyria uses "King" as a designation to describe himself. Illyria leans male in this case because he uses male pronouns to describe himself. When Illyria first appears he says... Illyria: Winifred Burkle is the shell I'm in. Wes: She's the woman you killed. And let's be clear, Fred is gone. I believe some aspects of Fred may affect Illyria in some subliminal way, but the effect is rather negligible in the grand scheme of things. Team Angel referring to Illyria with feminine pronouns is more of a question of habit, than of accuracy. Afterall, Illyria is a "walking obituary" as Lorne points out, so old habits die hard. Illyria is a male being. The other claim that "It is power, so it *categorizes* itself as King" is a bit of a misnomer. Sure, Illyria is the embodiment of power, which is all the more reason why he wouldn't cater to such categories UNLESS there were sufficient reason to - such as Illyria possessing a very real gender identity. Food for thought.

Kat B "God Ruler of the Primordium" doesn't sound impressive though :P Illyria was all about speeches and being impressive, you know? When she was talking about ruling in general, she also used male pronouns "A ruler [bla bla]. He... [bla bla]" (I'm so good at quoting things :D) I don't really get how the quote you used is an example of Illyria using a male pronoun to describe "itself" o.O As for Fred's effect on Illyria... Fred's memories are still left in Illyria and they are definitely affecting her, even if Illyria would never admit it. (Just saying, "Illyria the Merciless" wouldn''t probably give a flying fuck about Fred's parents or Wes dying if she wasn't in some way humanized.) Of course you are right about Team Angel referring to Illyria as female because Illyria is in Fred's body. Have you seen Illyria's true form? It doesn't look like a gender to me... I'm still voting for no gender at all. At least in Illyria's true form, I don't think Illyria had a gender or a gender identity. That is, until Illyria took over Fred's body. You'll probably disagree, but I do enjoy actually discussing things on RU-vid without insults being thrown around, so thank you for that :D

Agreed plus considering when Illyria was last active what gender term would have been active in a world of Cthulhu like creatures

Her original plan was take her army assume her full form and conquer more world and seek vengeance on those who trapped her but then she became stuck in on form in one spot

... Illyrian was a great character
