My family had a really special jar we filled with marbles when I was a kid. When my parents caught us in the act of doing something kind or selfless for one of our siblings without being asked, they would add a marble to the jar (goodness of deed coincided with size of marble). Once the jar was full, we all got to pick a reward, like going out for ice cream or a fun family day, together. 🥰

See, I like this a lot! It's usually bad deeds, like a swear jar, that is counted, but good deeds aren't given as much attention. By keeping track and rewarding good behavior, I think that's way more fulfilling for kids. Your parents were playing 5D chess, lol.
@theatregirl120
@theatregirl120 Год назад
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley they really were! There were even rules like that there couldn’t be repeats of the same nice things to earn marbles (so we had to get more creative instead of repeating the same kind things over and over just to earn marbles) and we couldn’t report back to them about things we had done so as not to artificially inflate the number of marbles we got. It had to be genuine. It took a long time to fill the jar, but man it felt so good to work together with my brothers to accomplish that!

I did too, we played with a circle and knocking out each other's small marbles with our large one. Sometimes you played for keeps, but we only did that in our sibling group since the neighbors would play for them to keep and have a temper tantrum if we tried to keep theirs we "won".

Wholesome marble story!!! I have a HUGE collection of clear brown, blue, and gray marbles but what is most interesting is where they came from! My grandfather worked at Bell Helicopter (a huge helicopter building warehouse) and they went through a lot of different spray paints. Whenever he got the chance, he would remove the marbles from the cans and would bring them home....he worked there from shortly after highschool to retirement. I have so many incredible memories about where he worked and the things he would bring home to me. Even though my marble collection is a little boring, the story behind them is not. Every one of those marbles has a connection with a helicopter somewhere. Lol

I was literally the leader of a self made marble club in my middle school! We would draw the circle on one of the many patches of dirt on our soccer field and play at recess. I frequently dropped the box of marbles in class (why I didn't put them in a ziplock is beyond me) and I think that's why they were eventually banned. But both the game of marbles and marbles themselves have always been an obsession of mine! I literally wrote a paper on them in elementary school! So absolutely great choice for a soap design, Katie!!

My grandparents had a marble run tower when I was growing up, and a huge collection of marbles! I LOVED hearing the "clack rrrrrrrrrr clack rrrrrrrrrrrr clack rrrrrrrr" as it fell through the holes onto the different wooden channels. I would also bury my hands in the marble bin to feel all the marbles, and chose favorites to line them up in order of preference. The wooden marble tower has been around since my mom was a kid, and now my little 5-year-old cousins are still playing with it!

I never played marbles as a kid, but I would play games that had marbles in them. The one that really stands out to me is Chinese Checkers. I would play that almost every time I went over to my Grandma’s home. Eventually my brothers got sick of playing it so it would usually just be me and my grandma :) Her board was a really old one too, from the 1950’s or even earlier. She passed away three years ago and we kept her board and her entire marble collection (which was probably 250+ 😂)

When I was a kid my great grandma has a pretty small chest of drawers (probably for an office desk) that has 6 drawers- one had marbles, one had miscellaneous buttons, some had pieces of a very old tea set we could play with, and the last drawer had cards going back to the early 1900s. Whenever we would go to our grandmas we would play tea and mess with the marbles and button. Reading through the cards was also hard for me as a young kid because everything was in cursive lol such a sweet memory

Growing up in the 80s, I lived in a small town with a locally-owned pharmacy that had a bunch of old-fashioned toys. This included the ball in the cup, yo-yos, and of course, bags of marbles. My brother and I did buy those marbles and tried to play the game, following the instructions on the little tag that came with it, but we didn't really understand it, and mostly we just liked holding the marbles and rolling them around in our hands. I agree, there is something very special and satisfying about a really pretty marble. We had our favorites and kept them in our little keepsake boxes, even though we didn't really play with them, lol.

I love the way that pour technique worked out! It makes me think of a lava lamp, or even just lava running down a volcano. And the blue (black?) marble embeds reminded me of blueberries with the bloom on them, which then made me think of the red ones as cranberries (which isn't quite right because cranberries don't have orange) and the green ones as olives.

Marbles were super popular at my grade school when I was a kid (1990s). I couldn't get my family to buy me any so I'd look in the grass near the flat dirt where kids played games, for the ones other kids had lost, and it was agreed by all that if you'd lost it, looked and didn't find it, it was fair game for other kids to find. I amassed quite a collection that way because I was very good at finding them. I still have one of them in a keepsake box- a big green shooter that looks like an emerald.

I played marbles with my sister and I collect marbles now. I enjoy the cat's eye marbles. But the swirly crystal marble spheres are awesome too.

The colors remind me of a ‘90s roller rink or arcade in the best way possible. 😊

THAT pairing of colours is just stunning & sort of looks like snippets of graffiti art. I love it. Great job, of course :) Really awesome :) Have a great night & I hope you all are doing well xoxox

My nana had a marble runner kit that my mom grew up playing! When I would come visit her as a kid I would play with it and make all kinds of fun tracks for the marbles to go down. I would pick which one I thought would win and root for it like it was my job! So fun!

Marbleworks was one of my childhood favorite games to play with my brothers. Each pick a marble or 2 and race to the bottom!

I was OBSESSED with those buildable marble run toys - there was a brand called Discovery Toys and they had this one set that I got for christmas that I would build and reconfigure and race marbles down all the time.

I didn't play the actual game of marbles. My grandmother had a wooden marble run from when one of my uncles was a child. It was so much fun! I also collected the pretty ones. My favorite was clear with little bubbles in it!

I played marbles as a kid and I used to have a pretty marble collection. I don't recall what happened to them though. The colors you used reminded me of the colors in those really big jawbreakers.

I know we had marbles as a kid, don’t really remember playing with them though. Thank you for all your videos! I get more and more ideas for my own soap making. My hands are so much healthier now!

I had a bag of marbles, and played with them by myself. My fun marble story is we had a cat who loved to chase a marble on the kitchen floor, then he would carry is around in his mouth, near the front, kinda between his canine teeth. For a big laugh, we would roll the marble in a dry bathtub and he would chase it around really fast! Try it with your kitties!
