Digital music has it's place but to me it's like fast food. You may eat a McDonald's when you're out but it hardly compares to a meal cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients. The guy who said it was the whole experience of putting the record on the turntable and sitting down to really listen got it spot on.

I grew up during the transition from analog to digital, and I happen to have the natural ability to hear a wider range than most people. The sound difference between vinyl and digital is that vinyl sounds like being at the beach and hearing the sounds of ocean waves and seagulls, while digital sounds like a lawn water sprinkler. The beach sounds are big and seem to come from all directions, while the sprinkler sound is smaller and appears to come from the location of the sprinkler.

Hello Jake, I think it's just incredibly nice of you how you create all your RU-vid videos. I've become a real fan of your channel, The Vinyl Hunters. So many interesting videos that you upload and present. It's great that you interview people on this famous street about whether they collect records or stream them. I notice that a lot of people collect more vinyl these days. Thank you very much for these great insights, best wishes Julian

Using Digital music to find out if i dig the whole lp to buy it on vinyl is pretty helpfull. But nothing beats an original vinyl lp from artists you like. Dont you think Jake?

Exactly this, new artists I use digital, if the album hooks me, I 100% buy physical.

At home , I prefer my vinyls. At work , in my machine , I stream music in my headphones. Finally , in my car , I usually play CD’s or simply turn on the radio.

The two things that really drew me to vinyl are the expense and inconvenience.

So funny and so true 😂😂😂 If one is into classical then cd’s are much better. Funny most of the records the people are buying today are recorded digitally 😂

If you rent your music, it can be taken away at any time. All that money for a someone else’s playlist. Every penny I’ve spent is still in my racks in my house.

@@markcarrington8565 A valid point, but that does apply to all physical formats, although after many years the cd’s start to rot and records also need taken care off.

@@gryphongryph I have a record cleaning machine that regularly brings 50 year old pressings back to fantastic condition. Sure, if you leave them lying around they’ll pick up plenty of damage, but with a little care they’ll go on and on. My CDs are lasting well too but I just can’t bring myself to play them versus my records. Interestingly, there is even a resurgence in cutting records from analogue masters. Not including Mobile Fidelity, of course 🤣🤣

I was starting to get frustrated with my records not sounding up to scratch. Digital is a much more stress free experience but with less emotional attachment. As soon as I upgraded my stylus my collection came back to life, so definitely depends on the qaulity of your hifi.

I only buy music digitally now and have done for many years, but only lossless formats like FLAC, so no issues with fidelity. Also only buy from sites with no DRM and back everything up in secure cloud storage. That said I love your channel and totally appreciate the aesthetic qualities of vinyl. I’m a bit OCD though and would drive myself crazy worrying about condition and playback issues if I were to start collecting.

It will be interesting to see if this decade long vinyl revival can withstand the current massive price hikes where the average price for a new record/re-issue is close to 40 pounds. These prices have sadly killed it for me. For the first time in almost 15 years, most of my 2024 purchases have been on CD and I had actually forgotten how good a well mastered CD can sound.

@Onyxmoon
@Onyxmoon День назад
Well, you don't need to go to a record shop to buy digital music, so it's a bit of a cheat in favour of vinyl. However, aesthetically, vinyl is superior. Convenience, digital is superior. I don't miss the pop and crackle of vinyl, the skipping, the storage, the warping, the reliance on a super-expensive hi-fi system (these days anyway). If you want the perfect reproduction, place an empty crisp packet in between each ear and the headphone, tap the record every now and again, etc. If only they did something like make the CD packaging as big as the vinyl - best of both worlds.

I think the answer is fairly obvious haha. Plenty of people prefer the sound of vinyl - rightly so. Many people are avid collectors and cataloguers of vinyl. There is a percentage of people who buy them just so they can say they have them, and for the pretence. But let's be absolutely real, 99.9% of people prefer digital music for its convenience, and that's demonstrably true. But yes, vinyl is a thousand times better in terms of fidelity and having a ritual. Then again, curating digital playlists is another ritual.

@oprofessorquevirousardinha5891
@@florian8020 Hi, Brazilian second hand vinyls start from 3 pounds (bad conditions), 8 or 9 pounds (fair), 13 pounds (good). American, British, German at least 15 pounds. Japanese second hands are rare.

I think there are a lot of people, me included, that will prefer vinyl, but may not necessary collect them. I used to have a decent collection of vinyls, then I switch to CD's when they stopped selling vinyl, then I sold both collections, because space became an issue. Today, sadly I'm streaming all my music, but I would still vote for vinyl as a preference.

I am not getting the attraction people have for vinyl today, new records are very expensive, frequency vise a cd is better and streaming can be made to sound great today, only when one spends thousands of $$$$$$$ does vinyl beat digital and those records have to be really taken care of and babied. If one want better digital, use a tube/valve pre into a solid state power amp. The cover on the vinyl album is much nicer than the cd, but that is the eyes having a good time, the same with the ritual handling the record, putting it on the record player and maybe dusting the few dust particles off before sitting down to listen to half the songs, then getting up to turn the record and listen to the second half where most songs probably are fillers… does not appeal to me anymore. A great record album well produced on a good home system can sound fantastic But I feel the interest in buying records today is more nostalgic than searching for better quality. The CD format is truly exceptional, unfortunately the studios and the artists themselves destroyed the format by wanting to sound the loudest and giving a f**k about the sound quality. Some exceptions are there, for example Classical Music and Jazz Music are often very well recorded, but unfortunately Pop, Country and Rock did not do the CD format any favors.

Before I got into vinyl I always knew I loved vinyl because of the warmth and crackling sound, then I found out there are people who want their vinyl to not make any sound at all, which is like, why would you want it to be on vinyl if you don’t want to hear any crackle, it’s like asking for a painting made of mud but it has to be clean

I somewhat agree, because some digital mixes are ruined by volume wars and saved by the vinyl mix. Also early CD masters were quite bright and bad.

@DorianPaige00 5 часов назад
@@tiborosz1825 You are conflating reissues with cds. If you look at the remastered vinyl version from that cd era, it is probably similar in sound. Either tapes were degraded or they used high generation masters like safety copies or they didn't know what they are doing. There are literally Lps made from cds/digital transfers and vinyl collectors could not tell the difference. Furthermore you have the anomalies associated with vinyl like a higher noise floor with the sound being subject to paper scuffs and needle drag.
