This is the main guitar Kurt Cobain to record most of Nevermind. Used on Lithium, Drain You, Come As You Are, and all over the place. Nothing really sounds quite like a Mosrite, their tone is extremely unique.
PLEASE do a full cover of Come As You Are with that Mosrite!! I’ve always been infatuated with the guitar tone of that song, and I’ve literally never heard anyone really even get close to the album. I knew Kurt used Mosrites, but I had no idea it was so prolific on Nevermind. Super cool.
That's what did it for me! I tried one and what it did to skin tones was so wild. I ended up saving and buying an older Alexa Classic. Cant get over this camera, I love it!
You are the best tone chaser I've seen on YT. I mean it. Having said that, I'm a 90's kid. And fron all Kurt's guitars, the Mosrite was always my favorite.
Just moved to Seattle. Dude, if I bump into you I hope I can get fortunate enough to get you a cup of coffee around here. It is rare to find somebody as obsessed with the art these days. Your music, tone nerdiness, photography, videography, etc have been such a massive influence the shift in my own recent work! Thank you!
If Kurt Cobain had lived longer, I'm sure he would have sung great music and Nirvana would have been the most listened to band in modern time. Rest in peace Kurt Cobain🕊🥀
That intro was so spectacular! I hope you release that version on iTunes one day. I would listen to it constantly! I never would have dreamed that someone could actually make that song this fantastic!
See guys??! You don't need great sounding gear to make it big. Your Affinity Squire and 10 watt solid state amp is right up there with Kurt Cobain's guitar tone!
that's why it sounded great - they ditched the metal guitar tones of the 80s and used a bunch of old guitars and amps, long before a market even existed for "vintage guitars"
Out of all the guitar tone channels on RU-vid-You have the best ear for the tones and execution of how to make them. Love it and please don’t stop posting.
Yea for real Nirvana guitars and a few others always go way too fuzzy it's like they never heard his tone before. They have all his gear, and still can't get it right. Kurt didn't even have some elaborate tone. He just used certain combinations of stuff and there are a few that are harder to match than others
That is so Kurt using an instrument that’s so unique but very formulator. His approach on music making is one of a kind. Personally doing the same thing on a record I’m making right now and it’s all from watching and taking a lot of notes from bands like nirvana.
Totally wonderful Aaron We already missed all your knowledge, you teach me new things, Nirvana is fantastic , thank you and take care, thank you for being by Aidan's side helping him record his album ✨🫂
i have been saying FOR YEARS that the Nevermind sound was a 1965 Mosrite Ventures model II (same as Kurt's Gospel) only to have melinial know-it-alls tell me it was strat (even though they were 2 years old when Nevermind came out). VINDICATION!
man your vids are incredible and soo relaxing, you've got this comfy and friendly mood with these beautiful landscapes (as a french it matters a lot) everytime and personally I envy your way of life through the videos!! excellent content it was great as always:)
Back in 1998, at a Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, was one of Kurt Cobain's Fender Mustang guitars on display. It had been smashed and broken. Stings attached and dangling. It was mounted, open to the air, just over my left shoulder. I reached back and touched it and inspected every inch of it. You see enamel transfer, scapes, and dents. The finish on the neck of the guitar had a little extra shine up top, and frets worn in. It was organic and preserved. That guitar resonated through my core without making a sound. You could feel the rage and dirty distortion. I'll never forget it. Thank you for sharing your passion. You are numbered amongst friends. Hope our paths cross one day!
I have the hallmark gospel prototype built by Bob Shade. He currently owns the trademark for the gospel brand of those style guitars. It’s definitely very unique. He learned how to build these style guitars from the guys who originally started mosrite guitars. Bob told me someone placed an order for a gospel but the only one he had left was the prototype so instead of making the customer wait for one to be built he sent the prototype out. At some point later the guy put it up in reverb and I ended up buying it. Congrats on finding the 66 one I’m sure that wasn’t easy to come by.
24 hours ago I was wondering where that "Nirvana guy that's making aluminium guitars on youtube" is and I couldn't remember your name. I had to search for all kinds of stuff to find you. A day later and BAM, a new video popped. Talk about asking the universe for something. 😊👍 Good to see you again.
Wow, that is absolutely crazy to hear you play Lithium and get that exact same strange almost drum-roll like sounds. I've been curious about that for years.
Aaron, I needed this today I really did and I appreciate how you put so much thought and emotion and passion into these videos. You are a Cadillac, to me, that is the top. I hope that someday we get an album of your material. And that you get more recognition than you already have. You are a fucking legend dude.
Glad you're back to making some videos, as well as great to hear an update on the projects. Kurt is what got me playing guitar, some 30-odd years ago, and it's awesome to see all the detailed info you've been able to track down & get your hands on. I'm sure the aluminum guitar is gonna be out of my price range (i.e. not free 😆), but DEFINITELY looks & sounds cool, & I hope things'll work out for ya! Much ❤️ from Detroit ✌️
i cant wait for the day that you put out some of your original stuff from these videos, you make really cool music. Also AN ARRI ALEXA??? WHAT?? i knew the previous videos were shot on a red but thats still absolutely crazy congrats man
The gospel was actually made because mosrite couldn’t use the mosrite trademark at the time so they had to make the gospel name, they still had the same models as the mosrite like the celebrity and the mark V
That moment when I finally got my 90's japanese mustang and thought "now I've got what it takes to make that Nirvana tone". Then I went to YT and dozens of old rare guitars show up...
I got a 68’ Morales Mosrite copy last year in a trade. It was made in Japan and sounds fantastic. I can get really close to a lot of Nevermind and In Utero tones
That song "In-A-Gada-Da-Vida" (Most likely spelled it wrong) But that song was recorded with the Same Mosrite model. Both the 17 year old guitarist used a Mosrite and the Bassist had a Mosrite Bass as well on that Song/Album...
I have a Hallmark Custom 60 electric guitar. It’s a set neck. New they cost about $1k with hard case. Hallmark pickups sound just like the Mosrite pickups
