I keep three packs of stock cubes, two containers of cinnamon, two containers of nutmeg etc in my pantry. I use them in regular cooking all the time, but whenever I open a new one I buy a new one. This way I can always grab some spices and stock cubes to add to my calorie bricks in a pinch! :D
An advantage to these is vehicle storage. Even canned and dehydrated foods break down pretty quickly in the heat and freezing extremes. Great review, thanks for your willingness to “take a hit” for an entire week and share your experience.
Awesome review,I have been wanting to try some just to see what they're like.I think after watching both of your video's I'm going to buy a SOS and a DATREX and eat them over the summer.I'll take one of each bars with me on hikes ,fishing ,to work and such for a quick snack.
I usually keep a couple packages around in my car for emergencies and longer camping trips. I'd hate having to eat them for a week straight, but for a day or two they are great to have in a pinch.

These are all designed as lifeboat rations, you shouldn't be doing strenuous activity except in extreme need. Most time would be relatively sedentary to preserve calories and hydration. In an inflatable liferaft excess movement could endanger stability.
What is an emergency? To me it is having to grab a few bags and my family. Get the hell out of Dodge kind of emergency. North Georgia has lots of hills to bug out to. Camping out at short notice. Do you wait until SHTF? You might not have internet or a cell phone. The Foxfire series books would be something you need if it's all you have to read when the stores are all closed and the cities have nothing to eat. Hope for the best and prepare for the... well you know. Propane to keep you warm. A close by stream. The skills to live off the land. Where are you going to go? And what will you need. Food is important and so is water. I can carry enough uphill ( may take a few trips to have a sanctuary for me and mine for a long time. And I will have no worries or needs. Don't be a victim.
I don't think it will be muscle mass that you'll be losing 😂 The first thing of order is, are you going to have sustained periods of hard physical labour, or will you be stationary. MRE's for instance, make a really bad ration for bugging in, because they're made for very active soldiers. Mariner survival bars are made for bugging in, but would make a very poor marching ration. I've eaten the Datrex ones, they're very bland, but they'll keep you alive.
