Vanaf je zolderkamer met de verwarming aan op RU-vid naar een Nederlandse markt kijken, blijft toch wel veel leuker als zelf van je zolderkamer af komen en erheen gaan😂
It's honestly really impressive how you can tame Dutch people in front of a camera, they really aren't used to it and it's considered quite obnoxious. Somehow they are comfortable around you though
The recipe is old, the soup is made yesterday! (Needs a night sleep to make the peas bond.) But how to explain it when you do not know the English word for 'Erwt'.
You seem like a nice dude. Love your comments and the way you interact with the people. Glad you had a good time. Enjoy the Netherlands 'my brother' ;)
OMG I am dying about the soup part, splithead 🤣🤣the man is struggling to find the English word, so he was saying it Dutch, so typical 🤣🤣its a soup made with peas, we call it spliterwten thats why its called erwtensoep. Never eaten it tbh, BTW I am so happy you found surinamese food! What you ate is Bara (the bread) you can eat it plain or like you did with the chicken. Surinamese food is a cuisine of indonesian, indian, chinese and african influences. Bara is similar to vada in India, taste different though, the people made their own way with the ingredients that was available at that time (this happened around 1800s) so you won't find any biryani in Surinam 😜, but delicious made curry, rice, snacks etc. I hope you visit Surinam one day, I am sure you will love it🙏🏽✌🏽
The soup also can be called 'snert' but I believe you may only call it that if it's thick enough to keep your spoon upright... also, the sausage in it is 'Gelderse rookworst' which is smoked sausage from the Dutch Gelderland province you can find it with hutspot/mashed potatoes often as well
Never had Erwtensoup?!? Haha..you're missing out on something, it is by far the best Dutch soup with the great Smoked Sausage. Very old recipe, but still almost everybody eats it..just don't put too much of the sliced meat in it (at least I don't like it)
@@VolpeWhereAreYou Let’s celebrate the festival in the true sense by spreading joy and light up the world of others. Have a happy, safe, and blessed Diwali!
The markets in the Netherlands do not take place every weekday at the same location. Instead you can visit a market every day at a different location! Dutch markets do not only sell food, but also clothes and household items. Do not be scared to try to make a good deal. The people selling their products are ready to negotiate
@@TeamWhackjob-Official He means that different cities have different days for the market so you can visit one every day. I think the purpose is that the people that sell can be at multiple markets a week
Colonial? Cookie is American English. It's more like an imagination thing. Americans also call coriander leaf cilantro which is the Spanish name for it.
@@michellezevenaar No it is from our colonial past. We founded New York (new Amsterdam) remember? Look up Dutch words in English. You would be suprised how much you will find.
@@lennartvers1767 I actually do speak dutch and there aren't that many dutch words in English but there are soooo many English words in dutch. There are also alot of shared words because they are in the same language family. There are also alot of French words in English and in Dutch.
I grow up in Delft and I still live there (for almoste 19 years now). As a little kid my grandma take my sisters and me once in a month, I always enjoyed that. I hope you enjoyed my hometown!
Hey Carlos I just started following you since a week. I am an Indian living in the Netherlands since almost 6 yrs. I am happy that you are here. The soup was made of white Green peas so Erten is peas, hope you have a good time here.

Great that you liked the food here and you went to my favourite baker as well. I will make sure to let him know he is in the vlog😬. Hope we can catch up next time and happy Diwali!!
Ohh how awesome this was as usual...I myself love exploring different food/small bites in new towns whenever i go. Your videos just making me remember my days in Europe. Thnx a lot for doing these.
We do indeed have a market in most cities and villages twice a week. There is a difference between those 2 as well in most cases, in that (usually) on Wednesday you have the full-blown market with all the stalls to browse at your leisure. Saturday it's usually only the ones for foods like cheeses, a butcher,(incl. or excl. poultry), fishmonger, nuts, veggies/fruit :)
Zo bijzonder is het nou ook weer niet hoor.Zelfde dat mensen naar de Mac Donald om een hamburger te eten.Terwijl als je naar een echte Hamburger restaurant gaat een vele malen betere hamburger krijgt
I had no idea about the stroopwafel holder to put on top of your cup! I always put my stroopwafel straight onto my hot cup. Works great, too. Whenever I shop for new cups or mugs I make sure they are the right size to accommodate my stroopwafels!
Hello Venezualan American. I like your open mindedness. I too an an immigrant. I've lived here for twenty years as I married a Dutch girl. I am English/British born, lived for 3 years in Washington DC and actually sat next to Ronald Regan at our apartment swimming pool. This was in the summer of 1967; my father was a British diplomat and i suppose RR was honing his "Washington skills". Maybe he was also Governor of California. Enjoy your stay here. I think Nederland is probably as good as it gets, but not if warm sea and a warm climate is important to you !!!!
Agreed and i still haven't been there, it's on my list though! So many cultures living together making delicious food. My in-laws are from Suriname and they always make delicious food! The cakes are delicious! My 2 year old looovvveess bara and bami!
9:50 That's nice of him to hold the camera for you. Although it does benefit him in the long run with attracting more tourists to spend money. And 3 EUR for a ready-made meal is a good deal.
Trying new food everywhere you go, another great vid mr carlos and the Dutch market is nice , love it. Liked the cheap american cookies, looks very tasty. Waiting you in Morocco , you'll be satisfied , various foods and différent flavors .Welcome.
I stayed in Delft for 11 months back in 2001...20 years ago. But it looks everything stays the same in Delft. One thing I remember, there was an ice cream shop close to the market with an offer: drie bolen twee betalen.... :D
I live in Delft and I did not know about the Surinamese place at the market. I always had missed it i think. Due to you i am addicted and go every week now lol
Excellent video and great information about delft market. Very cool video I have learned many excellent tips from you about the local Dutch market in Delft. Thank you for sharing this video
Stroop is a very condensed sugarbeet syrup. And "stroperig" is also used to describe the consistency of other things, it is the consistency of a very thick liquid. it will still run and drip, but very slowly. :)

Here in the Netherlands we have markets on all days of the week (except for sundays, usually) but on different locations throughout the city. It depends on the city also but generally its not only on saturdays.
yay, home! i live there. the market is on multiple days here in Delft, although most cities just do saturday. If you want dutch cheese: Gouda is the standard and its known all over the world. my dad even managed to find it in US. personally i like the old ones. "brokkelkaas" is so old its crumbly. very strong flavour so you really have to like it, but i do. the clothing on the market isnt necessarily what locals wear. most people just buy from the large national stores If you go to the market in NL you also HAVE to try fresh stroopwafels, like burn-your-fingers-hot-kinda fresh. good job on not forgetting
Cool video :), and one of the two churches wasn't a church, but was actually the town hall / city hall. The one where you where eating on the stone stairs. Once again, cool video and stay safe : )
That's the Markt in front of the Nieuwe Kerk, usually one of the main touristic hotspots of Delft (and of the Netherlands), but not so touristic now of course. You can tell by the shops around; they all have English names!
The chicken curry at the surinamese stall is amazinggg 😍😍 the best at the market👌 Also if you are in Delft longer you should go to slager Leo! Its a sandwich shop and its so cheap for the quality
Between two churches? One is the Town Hall, where you ate your Surinamese snack, the other is a church indeed, with the Royal burial vault. Most cities have big markets twice a week and small markets on the days between, except Sundays.
