Has this been done? Either place a radioactive material in the plane or use a paint with a uranium glaze? That way if you lost it you could find it with a geiger counter. I suppose you could use a drone to fly over the suspected lost plane and it could locate based on the level of radioactivity. i know it sounds crazy but it would be within safe levels and if it's a glaze over the outside of plane it should be pretty ez to locate.
