That away day roar from the Newcastle fans in the stadium of light is something I’ve been waiting to hear since the last derby as a Newcastle fan, no better feeling, what a game it was

Hands down the most ruthless derby in England. I’ve never seen hatred like it. I used to work with a bloke who refused to drive through Sunderland, he would drive round it and take the long way round instead of going through the Tyne tunnel. He didn’t wanna breathe the same air as Sunderland he said. I wish I was joking aswell. Its a good job all the police escorts kept the fans apart cause there would of been absolute riots if they got near eachother.

Am not into football really, but the match between the Mackems and the geordies is definitively the biggest Derby game in the UK, the most fiercest and most passionate fans in the UK. not a single other rivalry in the UK comes close.

This is without doubt the fiercest rivalry in the UK. It is not just about football. It goes back to the English Civil War. Sunderland sold the Newcastle garrison out for coin who were then slaughtered in their beds. Newcastle was loyal to the King. Betrayed by Sunderland who were loyal to Parliament. It has never been forgiven. Total hatred. Football has taken on that battle here. There are no quarters given. You are a Geordie or a Mackem. And you would would die for your identity and colours. The Police did a fantastic job in controlling the flow of people in this game. Otherwise there would've been carnage.

I love how our ownership went to bat for the fans to provide transportation to ensure a big away allocation, and then to provide scarves since flags were banned. Having both groups in the stadium only heightens the passion and the atmosphere as you experienced. I think other clubs can learn from What Newcastle did here. It's gotta be all about the fans

I would say this derby is the most intense in England by a country mile the violence i have seen over the years is ridiculous and tbf you dont want to see that now! This rivalry really is borne out of history and hatred!

Don’t really buy into all this the biggest Derby talk. Each and every Derby has a unique story. This one is definitely a huge one and the way the 2 clubs organised such a huge away support it’s absolutely brilliant the way they done it.

When it comes to rivalry’s I will always be biased to this one as it’s my Darby. Born in South Shields dad’s a mackem me and my brother both black and white and I have to say I can’t compare the passion that both sets of fans have and that’s what makes this Darby so special.

To be a city you need a cathedral…Sunderland hasn’t got one….so you are not a city….

I honestly think the Glasgow derby is only as big because it's all the Scots seem to care about in their own football league pyramid. I have been all over Scotland and you always see Ranger or Celtic fans. Not too many seem to support their local teams.

See there’s normally loads of trouble and violence but this was so well policed this time the two sets of supporters couldn’t even get at each other . They held us for over hour after game and only filtered us out like 10 coaches at a time.

Newcastle vs Sunderland might not be the biggest derby in the UK, I’d probably go with Liverpool vs Man United & Celtic vs Rangers, however it is the one of the biggest in terms of shear passion and pure hatred for the other team. I bet there were loads of neutral fans were watching the derby yesterday on the TV because it’s one game nobody wanted to miss.
