I got a reusable fabric advent calendar for my 20mo this year. Put chocolate coins in 1/3 of the pockets, and normal snacks in the others 🤣. Pieces of paper that say yogurt and he can go pick a yogurt from the fridge etc... So far he's been fooled 🤣

Loving the hairy leg representation! I have allergies to about everything under the sun so I almost never shave, and I get *such* judgmental looks from people when I wear shorts that I almost never wear them. It’s 50/50 whether the judgement will be from other women who don’t think I’m doing femininity “right” and feel a need to lecture me on it, or some old man in the supermarket who’s trying to ogle, then turns a disgusted face when he sees leg hair. (And to men like that-you don’t get to be disgusted by a woman literally just existing when you are the disgusting one, shamelessly creeping on strangers half your age.) Anyway-it’s encouraging to that insecure, constantly-criticized part of me to see someone who’s so confident and cool being unapologetically happy with her entirely normal and natural-yet for some reason demonized-leg hair. Thank you!

Amen to that! I also have the problem of my skin reacting badly to every de-hairing-method (lol excuse the bad english) under the sun. So even if i would think, being hairless on certain areas ((suprisingly creepy old men never get weirded out by eyebrows, hair on the head, or eyelashes, sarcasm off)) would be worth my money or my time, i couldn't do it

I will never forget an annecdote you told being nervous about hairy legs during s*x, and then realizing that if a guy did care, then he wasn't the kind uf guy you wanted to be intimate with. And that stuck with me. I tell my self that everytime I get selfconsious. Sp thanks for the hairy legs :3

Watching this on the second monitor as I finish up my day of work. I love this time of year and this sort of life admin morning feels strangely festive? Tidying up outstanding tasks and getting everything in order before taking time off is such a good feeling. Also! the yellow lamps on the new shelves/console look so nice! I can't wait to one day own a place and be able to decorate or change the space more permanently to fit me and my partner.

We’re limited sugar for our 18 mo so I’m doing an experienced/stickers advent calendar for her. The experiences are super easy though. For example we did a disco bath one night, and another night was having a “picnic” in the living room for dinner. I have a wooden music box reusable advent calendar so we’ll just do the same thing every year and maybe phase in chocolate for part of it when she’s older. Also she 100% doesn’t comprehend the idea of “only one” right now, so one piece of candy a day would be hella frustrating for all of us.

Hey, I know you are trying to do your best to care for your child by limiting her sugar. Unfortunately, these kinds of restrictions on food intake can have really negative impacts long-term to your child's health and her relationship with you. I urge you to look into intuitive eating and non-coercive parenting so you can support your child in learning what her body needs and wants and how it makes her feel. I wrote another comment on the video that I'll post here too to make sure you see it: It's much better for kids' overall wellbeing, their relationship with you, and their life-long relationship with food to support them in exploring their own needs, desires, and rhythms with food from as young as possible (except in cases of allergies, celiac, or other medically necessary food restrictions, of course). Then they don't have to unlearn all the orthorexic wiring when they are older. Restricting foods will only make them want those foods more. If you support free access to as many foods as possible when/however you're able to, it is much more likely they'll have a peaceful relationship with food and eating and be less likely to fall into restrict-binge cycles. And they will not feel driven to hide and sneak things from you! Check out Rythea Lee's content for more on the topic of non-coercion & how she's let her kid eat whatever she wants since she was 5 and it's been worth it 💗

@@magnoliaskogenthank you for your information and feedback! After all, we’re all just out here trying to do our best. In actuality, I think we’re crushing it with eating habits and food relationships. We’re limiting sugar, and more specifically added sugar, because our daughter is only 18 months old. Based on our own reviews of research and STEM backgrounds, we’ve decided that complying with the AAP (we’re in the US) recommendation is in her best interest for long term health. Toddlers are going through explosive cognitive and physical growth in the first 3 years, and more specifically in the first 24 months. They have tiny stomachs and their diet is fueling so much growth, so what they take in is important. Right now our focus is on introducing her to a variety of foods, referencing what they do for our bodies at a basic level (e.g. fat helps build our brain, protein builds our muscles, carbs give us energy), and making sure that no foods are “special” or “good/bad.” We believe her when she signs that she’s all done and don’t force her to eat more. Well…sometimes we don’t believe her. Usually just when she signs or says “all done” but the reaches for more food 😂 I didn’t look into the influencer you referenced, but you did say that she started letting her child eat whatever she wanted at 5. That’s a MUCH different age in just about every developmental way than a toddler. Like I said, in my opinion we’re crushing with regard to our child’s relationship with food *at this developmental stage.* Our approach will continue to mature as she does. Our activity/sticker advent calendar was fun for all of us, and my partner and I didn’t have separate candy ones, because we also limit (not restrict) our intake of added sugar. A lot of research supports that added sugar is not good for any one of any age, and is addictive, but that’s a whole separate thing! A piece of chocolate every day just because it’s December isn’t very intuitive to my body. Genuinely, thank you for caring about our next generation and their parents. I think a lot of us were raised in “clean plate club” households or have had really disordered eating habits over the years thanks to the many many fad diets that were pushed. At the end of the day, I want my child to know that a “diet” is just the type of food you eat.

My daughter doesn't like chocolate (both of us are salty snack gals lol) but she really likes the paper advent calendars where you build a scene. They're so pretty and you can keep them for playing with in future. I got a candle advent calendar from Scents of Humour and I'm loving it! I had a Yankee Candle one in the past but it was so full of plastic, whereas these ones are like small business/vegan/sustainable and (I think) plastic free and they smell sooo good

I bought a similar rug cleaner from a different brand which included a middle step of scrubbing it with a wet sponge after the foam to remove some of the dirt that way, and then wait two hours and vacuum too. I've seen a lot of handmade advent calenders, where parents add something they're ok with, and not only food, but also some small toys or activity suggestions (for example, "crafting a snowflake", "baking chtistmas cookies together ", "making punsch", "riding on the sleighs", "writing a letter to Santa", etc.

We bought a carpet cleaner because it was discounted in b&m and it works SO well and wasnt expensive BUT its so big and annoying to store so if financially its viable for you id recommend hiring one because then it doesnt tske up space in your home! Re advent calendars - I didn't get my 18mo one because I didn't want her having chocolate every day. I got a reusable fabric one and put little toys/books in each door. My dad bought her one without realising 18mos don't necessarily have chocolate, and I ended up using it because literally every single person with a baby a similar age that I know got theirs a chocolate one and i felt bad 😂😂😂

i have a carpet cleaner...so i'd just get that out. But you mostly have wood flooring...so no point. I use white vinegar for a lot of stuff. mostly a wipe has got stuff up. but depends on the stain. Unless you get a hand held cleaner for rug and can use on other fabric items.

Advent callendar thoughts for next year: I had advent callendars with pictures in them, but all the other children I knew had chocolate ones, and the cultural expectation is that advent callendars have chocolate, so I did feel left out. If you don't want to give him daily chocolate for healthy eating reasons, you and dan shouldn't get chocolate ones either. If you'd feel like you're missing out if you don't get a chocolate one, he should have a chocolate one too, it's only fair. On the "will he understand that it's only one a day" that's how you teach him. He gets one a day, so he learns that he only gets one a day.

A lot of people here in the comments are talking about restricting their children's food intake (sugar, chocolate, etc). I would strongly encourage you all to learn about intuitive eating and non-coercive parenting! It's much better for kids' overall wellbeing, their relationship with you, and their life-long relationship with food to support them in exploring their own needs, desires, and rhythms with food from as young as possible (except in cases of allergies, celiac, or other medically necessary food restrictions, of course). Yes! Thank you for showing your hairy legs! It must have been really scary posting that online with such a big online presence. But you have normalised it to so many people. I've got quite lazy with hair removal in recent years, and sometimes I feel like I'm not doing a good enough job for my partner. But it's so reassuring to see you, with a husband, not giving a damn. I still love the feeling I get right after I shave my legs. But I should equally feel good about letting it grow. Why has body hair got so complicated?!
@magnoliaskogen

In my opinion, it's not lazy to let your body be how it naturally exists. Also you do not owe your partner hair removal at all, and if they have an issue with that, it reveals a lot about them 💜
