They are actually Wing Sung, and I have a couple along with a stainless steel flighter version. There is also a 601A that has a Sheaffer style tubular nib. The Conklin is the Crescent Filler (that's that arched pressure bar used to fill the pen). I have one in Vintage Blue with a 1.1 mm Stub that is a beautiful writer & the other one is Black/Gold Chased. A few of my first pens were the Pilot Metropolitans. I don't have an Expert, but I have a Marine Amber Waterman Carene that is a fantastic pen. You got a nice group of pens at such a fantastic price.
Too funny, I have the exact same Waterman expert II which I purchased through Poshmark for $80. I absolutely love it as well, I have it inked with Robert Oster thunderstorm, which is a dark blue black ink. I didn’t want to put plain black in it and I think it’s so pretty.
What a great haul. The two I'd keep would be the Waterman and the Waterford. I like a classic style and green is my favourite colour. I have a couple of Jinhao X450s; bought one in Medium and liked it so much I got another in Fine. I agree they feel broader though.
The Mizutama gray ink is one of my all-time favorites! I'm sad that it isn't part of a permanent collection. Sailor 373 is quite similar according to my swatches though! The Levenger and Birmingham look so gorgeous! I also really love my neutral color pens 😅
Amazing find Lory .Coincidentally that Edison was my very first fountain pen in 2014. It’s the one pen I will never give up. I believe you’re going to love it as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to share as you always do.
The Birmingham would be lovely paired with KWZ Honey in my opinion. This was an amazing purchase! Love the look of the Levenger Pen, but I think my favorite is the Waterman Expert. Lovely! Lisa
You’re preaching to the choir about that Levenger. That exact pen was on my wish list, my unicorn! I first saw it when TOXMOT showed her pen collection. I put it out in some Facebook pen groups I’m in that I was looking for one. Strange how it happened, but a girl in my pen group saw one posted in a group from the UK. She looked it up and put us in contact with each other. I have it! It’s a medium nib, I’d prefer a fine, but this is beautiful. I love “lie de the” ink in mine.
What fun! I do have Wing Sung pens, including the 601 vacuum fillers, with exposed nibs. I'm not certain these are Parker knock offs so much as perhaps inheritors. Some Chinese company -- and Chinese corporate histories can be pretty opaque -- got the Parker factories and assets in 1948. Anyhow, mine all work well, especially the one with the 14k nib. ... Ooo! The Waterford is guilloche! Gorgeous! The Levenger is lovely too. And with a great nib. Such a pen would merit a gold nib, and yet, the steel nib is so excellent that it would be a shame to swap it out. I run into such good steel nibs at times. But, I wouldn't hesitate to swap the nib on the Birminham (so beautiful!) for a better.
I have the same Jinhao 450, which was given as a gift. I also have a Jinhao 750, which I like a lot. The grips are different. But both can fit a Nemosine nib, which Birmingham pens sells. The Nemosine 0.6 and 0.8 stub nibs are super smooth and smaller stubs, which are fun for more everyday writing. I also have their Lefty Fine, which is nice and smooth.
Whoo hooo Lori! Great buy. Thanks for sharing. 👏👏❤️😍 I have given out 6-7 Pilot Metropolitan out to friends and co-workers but never bought one for myself. People seem to love the pens. That Birmingham pen is gorgeous! 🧡🤎
Thank you! It is a very nice writer, especially for the price! I decided to gift it to one of my good friends. It will be her first fountain pen! Enjoy!
I have found the Jin Hao pens a very pleasant surprise. Much better than I expected, which is welcome, since I am exploring the lower end of the fountain pen "gene pool." I admire your taste, have gotten pens you have demonstrated and recommended and been very happy with the ones I have chosen from your recommendations. I also very much enjoy your videos. They sparkle, as do you. Thank you.
I just bought the twsbi eco in Caffè with bronze trim, fine nib,(goulet pen co) and paired it with diamine golden brown ink.....I am in love...writes and looks beautiful highly recommend will fit right into your color scheme, love your vids😊
So funny, I was saying to myself "draw a shamrock!" the whole time you were reviewing the Waterfird. Then you did. 😅 I know what you mean about the stiffness of the Birmingham nib. I ordered one for a PenBBS 308 and couldn't like it much until I put a flowy ink in it (Waterman Serenity Blue). I could have sworn you would keep the hot pink pen. Thanks for your great reviews. ❤
1. Whoa, you made a KILLING. 2. I'm always interested in seeing any colorful Sailors for sail. Please let us know when the selling happens. 3. The x450 is a great value, almost as good as the metal x750.
All are fun pens. You got a great deal. Looks like someone collected or a while and stopped. Have fun. I remember some of those pens. The x450 was one of the first Jinhao models that got people hooked on Jinhao pens- they taught people how to swap nibs, because Jinhao nibs were horrible at first. They got better over time.
Yes, we have two Conklin Mark Twains. One in Brass, one in Gunmetal. We purchased them because my honey is a huge Mark Twain fan. Both pens are heavier than resin models but, since they're large, they fit well in the hand unposted. The brass has a fine nib and wrote well from day one. The gunmetal, however, has the OmniFlex nib. At first I didn't love the writing experience with it and was thinking about selling it. With some time the OmniFlex nib seemed to loosen up a bit, although I still wasn't thrilled. And then I sampled Noodler's Heart of Darkness with it. Oh, heavens, does that nib love HoD! Wrote well on every paper I tried it on. (Immediately bought a bottle.) But that's the fun of the hobby, right? Discovering nib/ink/paper combos that really work.
Screw that Edison nib in to the Birmingham body and never look back. Enjoy the look and the the awesome nib paired together as a keeper coupling of a pen you like to use and looks good.
All my Waterman pens use standard refills and converters but the Waterman long double size refill is broader at the end so if the pen tapers at the end of the barrel they might not fit. Stypen long double size refills are narrow along the entire length.
Yes, I did buy a Levenger True Writer about a 12 or so years ago. I swapped the nib around and then back to original. Lovely steel nib well tuned. I bought one for my son and found that the nib was less well tuned.
I would love to have right of first refusal on the Birmingham one. I love it. The Waterman is pretty too. I have two of the Edison/Goulet collabs. As always, enjoyed the video.
The Jinhao is pretty, now you own a dedicated Baystate Blue ink pen. Enjoy the pens the Waterman Expert pen you will love and the Crescent filler is a superb pen you can possibly sell near retail price if the nib is working smoothly and well aligned and the sac is taking up 13-15 drops of inks it is working well. I have a modern one in the Red and enjoy it.
The Edison Nibs being number 6 size and screwing in and out. I enjoy swapping their nibs in to other pens situationally. Brian has excellent quality controls and will stand by making things right if there is an issue. This is a keeper pen for you I hope.
I am loving it! It is definitely going to stay with me. I lightly went over the nib with some micro-mesh (maybe for or five passes). It is writing beautifully!!
I dont have any experience with Wingsun and Jinhao, but from what I've seen they can be very good writers, although they've had some issues with consistency when it comes to quality.
That Mark Twain is definitely much nicer looking than the one I bought at the end of last year’s Orlando show. I loved the way it fills, and the writing feels nice…except the experience is marred by how ugly the colors turned out to be. 😂
