Love how the secret staircase is entered through the bathroom. "Honey, I'll be in the bathroom for a bit...! Continues walking downstairs to get to his PlayStation.
Probably damp and prone to mould without the fireplace continuously used for heating. That would be what the house was originally designed for. Which would be why previous owners added the XPS insulation and turned it into an unconditioned “crawlspace” instead.
Gospel of Jesus Christ John 3:16 For God So loved the world that he gave his only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not Perish but have Everlasting Life. Jesus Christ Died for the sin of the World, If you believe in ur heart God Raised Jesus from the dead and confess him with ur mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord you shall be saved. Jesus said I Am The only way to heaven there is no other way! Repent of urs sins (Repent means Change ur Mind turning away from sinful things and being truly sorry for it.) trust Jesus and give ur life to him He Loves you cares about you more than anyone ever will! we are saved, this is sin:Lying stealing cursing s3xu@limmorality.. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 For all have sined and felt short of the Glory of God. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. REPENT get right with God! Jesus wants to have personal relationship with Us!
Can you please make a video with a voiceover explaining exactly what happened here? Feels like there’s a great story to be told but from the clips posted all over social media we’re only getting bits and pieces. - How long were you living there before making the discovery? - What made you knock that hole under the stairs, did you suspect you’d find something? - Was it obvious from the outside that there was a whole other part of the property that was hidden away? What is the layout? Was the door with a concrete wall behind it originally an entrance? - Have you been able to find out anything about the history of the place, and why all this space was hidden away in the first place? - Were the plumbing and electrics already there (suggesting it was being used relatively recently)? - What is the legal situation? If all this extra space isn’t in the deeds can you claim it, or does someone else own it? - What are your plans if you can claim the space, will you incorporate it into your home or create a self-contained flat and rent it out?
That sure looks like an old cellar to us 😊,but what a great 👌 extra space you didn't know you had . Thanks for sharing 👍 greetings from Simon and Beth ❤❤❤
If the flat is part of a larger house then it could have been the servants quarters at some point and just not used when people moved away from servitude, or sometimes certain parts of houses didn't council match building regulations at the time (safety) so they pretty much boarded up rooms and left them.
A house was taxed on square footage at one point in time but unsure where that was applied at outside the US. Or they have been finding houses with hidden places accessible to the hidden rooms for the Underground Railroad dating back before the Civil War
I saw this on Tiktok, thank you for uploading the full footage, I was just curious does this all belong to you now? If so, although hidden and if that was all to be done up that would be so much SQ FT for your money. :)
I think that's the cellar. Our house was built pre 1890 and the cellar runs under the whole living room and hallway. The door to it is in the kitchen and the stairs go under our stair case. There's a second door in the cellar leading to the larger room. In the smaller part there is a Victorian thrawl / cold slab for keeping food cool. In the larger part there is opening to the pavement, partially closed now, presumably for coal deliveries. Lucky as it looks very dry. Our cellar is a bit damp. Seing off cellars was a fairly common thing I think at one point. Some places where the cellar is sealed off without ventilation has caused mould and damp problems. Our cellar originally had a door that went to the neighbour's cellar. We presume that was done during the second world war in case lf bombing so there was more than one escape route for families if a house was hit.
Lol "gruesome history" like mold, or an unused room adding to the square footage was increasing property taxes. Or it needed so much work (look at it!) that a property manager sealed it up so it wouldn't turn off potential buyers. Stuff like this is usually incredibly mundane.
@@mattaukamp extra square footage almost always equates to more money. I don't see why that part of the house was hidden and locked up like that unless someone was desperate to keep it secret.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the room had had something horrible happened there and now that they uncovered it the vindictive murderous ghost will come out to kill them all. 👻
Beginning a 250 yr old house, was probably a Grand Lady at one time..Fascinates me..Basement with huge fireplace, probably a Summer Kitchen or only kitchen in that era...Just ❤❤❤ older houses...Fun, Mysterious, Some down right creepy...
Oh HELL no… NOPE!!! After being traumatized by watching the Amityville Horror in the 1970‘s, I definitely wouldn’t be opening up any secret or hidden rooms, lol!!!
Wow! You can buy a flat without the original. Blueprints? Not in the US. Need engineering to go over etc before buying. I bet they used it during the blitz in WW2! I would renovate!
I live in California and there are no blueprints for my home. I tried to obtain them but they don’t exist. House built in 2005. So you don’t need blueprints after the home us finished and approved.
It's just a normal basement. And from the looks of it, it has small windows on the road. They may have used it during the blitz in WWII but it would have been of little use if the house was struck by a bomb.
My cottage is 150 years old but sadly came with zero documents. My previous house, 60 years old, came with a pile of documents from the day it was built. Luck of the draw, which is a shame.
I do not like finding doors behind drywall in an old house. The last time this happened to me I was offered money for the rights to the screenplay and the script. There's still a reward for the whereabouts of a newspaper reporter, an uber driver and a very old book with Latin writing.
If you can relocate the bathroom you may access that large cellar room or else an alternative new stairs down to full height room can you get a light tube to it if not a window.
Had a very similar experience in a flat I rented in Liverpool, I'd been in there for 4 years before I discovered a staircase leading down to a cellar the whole size of the building,an entire and complete living space below street level. I built a workshop down there
I’m curious when it got walked up. If it really has a door to the street you could always renovate and rent out the space. Of course, I’m sure it would cost a small fortune but still, could be good. Betting it’s going to be awesome when you guys are done with your work.
We just LOVE to find MORE than what we paid for - especially if we can do it up and use it. I was suspicious about the perfectly pink painted ceiling, like it was recent. Even the black plastic in there was pretty 'clean' looking, not dusty. Like someone was using it until recently... Wonder what the back story was/is...
I believe it is fireproof plaster board. They come made in pink, could be wrong but over the years I’ve installed the exact same stuff. Looks like the previous owners was going to do up the basement but changed decision, leading to hiding it covering up the stairs
have you checked housing plans on what you own? I beleive you bought the first level not the whole building? what if underneath isn't yours either? I mean I'm hoping it is
That makes sense. If the building was originally a single dwelling before being broken up into flats, access to other parts of the building may have been boarded up for that reason. If the cellar was sealed up long ago, it might have been ignored when the building was converted into flats. If the flats are leasehold, which I think is usually the case, there must be a freeholder as well who owns any residual parts of the building (if they are not communally owned) and collects ground rent and any other charges.
My guesses are: An abolitionist house for the underground railroad, a speakeasy, some room that used to be important but became obsolete because of new technology
Man I have seen this story all over the internet now and I need to know. Is the house 150, 180, 200, 220 or 250 years old??? So many people just copy and pasting this story to their own page and can't even get the information right.
