The unpainted door handles means they’ve been replaced before. All GS, GS-T, and GSX models came with painted mirrors and door handles. If you don’t care that’s all that matters because it’s your car and you’re lucky to have the car in general, but just thought you should know as every dsm owner knows they’re prone to breaking lol.

I too own a stock 98 GSX and a 99 GST Spyder thats modified....both manual of course 😊 Trust me....these cars are hard to come by now days! This is my dream car, i hope to own one, i understand that it’s a car just over 2 decades old and is susceptible to issues such as rust, and crank walk, and DSM didn’t build them very well quality wise so it’s fragile, even so it looks sleek and fierce, and the engine for the gs-t and gsx is tried and true

I had a ‘98 Eclipse RS in my early 20s and although it wasn’t fast it was still fun. I had a blitz body kit for it too but was too poor to have it put on 😂 I’d love to find a GSX in good condition nowadays. I love the original music from the original movie btw 👍🏽

F this pandemic! I have always wanted a DSM, specifically a 2G eclipse. Found a great deal on built, low mile 2G Talon TSi AWD and bought it a few weeks ago. Then i came a across a completely stock, unmodified convertible 1997 GST spyder and for fun put in a seriously lowball offer. Well. he accepted. I went from no DSMs to 2 DSMs in three weeks. i feel like hugh heffner.

That is one of the most sought after optioned Eclipses. Everyone wants a 99 with black interior. Only year that all black was available.

Let me know if you need any guidance on the do's and don'ts with the DSM. They're great cars, so long as you follow some general key things. My 1G is somewhere north of 700whp, and has an affinity to break driveline parts. It's getting an auto this winter. Keep it conservative if you DO decide to mod it. You'll be surprised how much fun a simple 450whp pump gas DSM can be.

Low grab point is normal on a dsm. Also it could have an aftermarket clutch

the clutch engagement should actually at the upper end of the press sop thats odd but different clutches work differently

I just barely bought a eclipse 3 weeks ago for $4500, Gst 1999 ,everything is stock and has a turbo, seller also told me its been sitting in the garage for 12 years and has under 1000 miles 🤩 and also no rust to mention

Nice find! Turbo cars are fun and that 4G motor you have is a beast! That cast iron block can hold so much power. I'd change all the fluids, spark plugs, bushings, etc and get familiar with the car, then start modding. I wonder if that's the original turbo? Sounds like it has a blow-off valve too, not sure if they came stock like that. But yeah.. you can make these cars crazy fast! The body already looks good, get some nice coilovers, wheels, tint, HID's, front lip, front mount intercooler, and it would look so much meaner. I see that you mentioned that the gears were long, you would want long gears because of the turbo. I use to have a turbo Integra with LS gears, they're long gears, and it was a blast to drive that car. I'm curious though, why do you shift so late? Like why you shift around 4k RPM? I've always shift around 3k RPM, even in my Z.

Any advice where to look to try and find a GSX or GST. They are impossible to find.

Fix the kinks and dents, and then paint it and then ceramic coat it. Try to keep it stock, do minor mods if you are going to , so minor i mean ic, cai, intercooler piping, ce. Don't open it up unless you have crank walk; and then youll want to go ahead and do piston and connecting rods. You can have a lot of fun with this with just a few minor things; you don't need 600whp if you know what i mean. These cars have gone up in value, and as a former 99 mitsubishi eclipse gsx owner its become a pain for me to find one now that am older and have money. Keep it, its fun and its going to go up in value a lot.

I also Just Thought you might want to know that with your car being a 99, it has the all white gauge cluster WITH the boost gauge and oil pressure gauge being a GSX. You might not know this but that is SUPER RARE, along with your already rare full black interior. I don't think you realize how rare your car is today lol. its a wonder you found it like this.

"8k USD for GSX is a ripoff" *cries in European* In Europe, if you want to find a good GS model you have to pay like 6000$ for it, some cars cost almost 10k$! If I could find a GSX for 8k$ I would be happy as hell! I think that in Europe is better to import the GSX from the USA, pay taxes and shipping + cost of changing the front and taillights to European and It would be much cheaper than buying GSX straight from the UE. Also, I think that the reason that Eclipses are so beaten up is that they were cheap to buy but costly to maintain and people just killed and scrapped them. PS. I love your videos and waiting for more content on the Eclipse :)

Unfortunately the modern DSMer is cheap. Most of the people hating on "overpaying" for a dsm are the ones who can't afford to properly maintain and modify them. At the same time, these people are hurting the value of these cars. Fortunately, the overall value of clean examples of these cars are rising.
