Outside of the workshop, my favourite part of Wheeler Dealers was when MB would introduce a small business specialist - so I really enjoyed meeting Mike at The Zed Shed. There's something great about someone finding a niche market and building a business within it. I doubt there is anything Mike doesn't know about Z3/Z4's. More of that sort of content would be very welcome. Merry Christmas.

Absolutely Bob! friend of the family is a Jaguar specialist in Manchester of some fifty years, sadly he's not very well now, but seeing Mike in that video is exactly how I remember Steve in his workshop surrounded by ten or more Jaguars at a time, all varying ages and states of repair with near encyclopaedic Jaguar knowledge. Desperately trying to break away from my daily filming duties to shoot a mini doc of him before he's no longer capable.

This Z3 suits you really well, Matt. I think you should consider making it your Christmas present. These cars are likely to appreciate in value quickly, and you should find a suitable buyer in no time. No one manufactures cars like this anymore. And if I'm not mistaken, this is a 6-cylinder, which is a good specification. Excellent job on this one; it's a find of the year for me!

I love my 2.0 ‘00 Z3, been waiting for the day you get one in. Currently at 104K and I spent the summer treating rust under the sills, foggy lamps and replacing a corroded power steering pipe. Super easy to work on, even on a driveway and feels like a go kart, even with only 150 (minus 23 years) horse power. Mechanically sound after 7 years of ownership and looking forward to many more summers with it.

I have the same car and love it. I paid £5000 for it but it is immaculate. Never charge the battery at the back, there is a charging point on the offside wing under the bonnet that protects the circuits from surges. Keep your eye on the temperature gaugh if it does not warm up it needs a thermostat (common fault) very easy and cheap to do and do the pump while your in there. Try BMW dealer for a key they are clearing old stock of these and did me one for £30. Keep the car values are going up. Cheers Peter

Electric seats were standard on the Z3. 1999 V is the 'wide body' facelift and the introduction of the 1.8 (actually 1.9 litre) SOHC and the 2.0 six to replace the original 1.9 DOHC. Z3 sills are bolt on covers so aren't structural. DL is an Isle of Wight registration. Very often it's easier to remove a dead hood pump plus the hydro pipes and give it a distance test (see how far you can throw it) so it goes back to being a manual hood. FYI, a BMW dealer would have sold you a suitable battery for about £90 all in.

I do think the Z3 has aged really well (but I think the same about the Z4) and I can appreciate the softer suspension compared to other cars of the era; makes it reasonable on longer journeys. I find the interior feels more spacious than a Z4. It’s probably just the shaping and angle of the dash, in which case it’s credit to BMW. A friend recently bought a 2.0. She needed a new car but despite her best intentions she couldn’t help herself, she wanted something a bit special as well as practical for one person.

Matt, you have done well with this one. I remember there was so much publicity about the Z3 before it was released but then some motoring journalists criticised it for the E30 rear suspension design but it is now considered a classic. Great video. I sold many Z3s at BMW in the late 90’s, they made about £2k over list back then, as there was a 12 month waiting list. The black/black cloth spec, I use to upsell white lotus leather trim for the seats, door cards, handbrake and gear stick bag for £1,250, it really lifted the interior, better than the factory leather and gave it a nice smell too. The 2.8 model was the best to have, as the Z3M is a bit too costly for a Sunday ragtop.

Great vid, great car... and now in good condition. I think it's a keeper this one.... think these will start going up in price. They don't make cars like this anymore so I'm sure this will be sort after at some point. Great footage from the garage in Warrington. Will look out for Mike and the Mechanics for stuff I need doing. 👍

The inclusion of the visit to the Z-shed was a good idea. I have had a ride in the passenger side of a BMW Z3 and I felt about as uncomfortable as I have ever been in a car. Not something I would ever decide to buy but I can understand that some people like them.

Good morning Matt, I agree - nice to see some technical content rather just hear about the specialists you use & trust. Think you should keep the Z3, everybody needs a convertible in their life... Z3, MGB, MX5, Saab 900 etc!! Keep up the good work, thoroughly enjoy the HPA content including your recent off roading and the occasional road trip 👍🏼

This little BMW certainly has the cute factor. It should be a lot of fun to own, and to drive, hopefully it will feature in a future video. As always great video Matt, I enjoyed looking over your new, oh so cute, purchase❤.

Cracking little motor Matt! 👍🏻😀 it’s amazing really all the knowledge you must pick up along the way! All the different specialists you get to meet/use for different makes. It fascinates me. It’s a shame having to make a living gets in the way sometimes 😂
