I finally bought a Porsche Cayman 981 GT4, but I had to buy it with a lot of problems! Find out what's wrong and how it's going to be very expensive to fix. Instagram: Saving_salvage Facebook: Saving Salvage
Good luck with this one. The GT shells are so rigid. Dont underestimate just how much stress has been sent through the body shell in a crash like that. Peak loads will have been significant due to the snapping rather than bending. Check the shock towers very closely. Known weak point after an impact like this.
Were the ceramic breaks optional if they were I’d replace all 4 with iron disks. You could sell the remaining good ceramic discs to help pay towards the build. Love the colour combo black graphics & white paint. This is a keeper for sure.
Surely someone aftermarket makes steel discs for these? That's what I was thinking myself. Sell the discs and use them to pay for a lot of the repairs. Can always buy another set at a later date.
Maybe we can all help contribute if we watch it twice….. your bravery has no limits, can’t wait for the next episode, the bodywork scares me, especially the roof damage.
Can't you sell your two ceramic discs to pay for some of the build and replace with steel discs. If you're not going to track the car it shouldn't really matter.
That's to nice a car to kill on a track, sort out any problems, sort paint and keep for a grand tour of Europe in summer, as for track a Dacia sandero be fun
great job. vids have come on loads in quality the last few months, unit looking fantastic. the white walls and light makes a huge difference. the more positive outlook is a winner, just look where matt armstrong is now! keep in up and good luck with gt4
Could even get in touch with Matt Armstrong, he's recently rebuilt a Cayman GT4 so could know about a lot of pitfalls. Had it resprayed in yellow if I recall. Nope, it was a standard Cayman but put a GT4 kit on it. But the body panels except the bumpers should still be the same.
Looks like a great project. Did you look more closely at the rear hatch opening? That graunch sounded like misfit with the body shell. Hope the shell is OK
What a great car matey...This car is so much better than a 911 in every way. Still the 911 fanboys pay through the nose. Germany keeps taking their money....🤔😳😏😏😏🇬🇧
Super excited about this one, what a awesome car. Once it's finished you've got a real track weapon! Good luck with the build, it's gonna be expensive I think but worth the views on youtube and first testdrive😁
You lurched from disaster, to salvation, at every turn on this one. There are still many expensive and rare parts to obtain on what has the potential to be a long and challenging journey.
Just don’t know why you don’t fit steel discs and callipers? And isn’t the rear shock bent can’t believe it’s took a hit like that and not got bent ,, but great video and looking forward to the next one 👍
Parts for 718 GT4 vs 981 GT4: there is a simple explanation: the 981 GT4 is way more rare and a true limited number series (as well as being a the rawer, lighter and more focused car). Thus in spite of the 981 GT4 being the older car there is much less of if (parts or whole) around. The 718 GT4 instead has been almost mass produced for a GT Porsche and that reflects in parts availability as well as you found it. And that is also good news for your 981 GT4: if you keep it long enough the chances are that at some point the market will reward its rarity...
Too much background music ruined the video. Should be intro music stop then outro music. Very hard to please everyone's music taste anyways. Talking over music is distracting and annoying.
The GT4 is a fantastic car in my view & this is rebuild is already shaping up to be one of your best to date. If costs are an issue, why not go for steel discs, rather than replace the damaged carbon ceramics?
Just a thought: in case you are not 100% sure there is oil in the engine, better be sure and do an oil change before your attempt to start. Would have saved the engine in case the oil pan was fully drained. Cheers from Amsterdam
A very nice rebuild project !! Love to see that you are willing to take a risk buying a car with damage. So far all the signs are green about parts and hopefully it will stay that way !!! Engine is running like a Porsche must be so that is a extra bonus !!!! So curies how this rebuild will be continuing and fingers cross that you will be having much off luck !!!! Great video btw !
I like the look of this product, damage doesn't seem as bad as I thought but best of luck, hopefully you end up with a cracking car for alot less than a used one
Holy smokes dude! That’s one messed up O/S rear quarter but glad you managed to get the hub etc already! Will be interesting to see what hidden issues as it looks like a hellova whack there so could be other areas twisted or stressed.. lovely car and really look forward to seeing this progressed… Thanks Dean!
That hole in barrel of the wheel would suggest the disc was damaged and went AWOL during the crash. Doubt they would take the rotor and leave the bell, it’s far more work to unbolt all the small bolts between the bell and rotor than just take the whole disc.
£610 per year Road Tax! Sold for around £77k back in November 2019! If you spend £20k on parts to get it back on the road, you're still going to make a hefty profit on this! Looking forward to future videos!!!
I live in France, i looked for this car on 'la centrale' the equivalant of Autotrader, €105K for one thats done 27000 km 😂😂 makes your one look super cheap 👍👍 good luck and it looks like youve been lucky already 🙏
The only Porsche I can recall ever being passenger in. Friend of a friend took me for 6 laps of Spa F1 circuit. Says he'll never sell his - manual, N/A engine, his colour. Still only on about 6k so that was the longest journey it's done from northern England.
Awww come on now!! It's far to early for April fools..... Because I know there's no way you've went and bought a car that doesn't need and engine Dean????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks a lot for many hours of interesting, scaring, funny etc entertainment. Nice to have an English channel too, and little by little I understand almost all your language! Good music also, and appropriate use of time lapse. Wishing you all the best with your cars and hoping you will make some money too!
Have you thought about a co lab with mat Armstrong. He did a 718 to a gt4 replica and it would intro you to his audience and vice versa. He has benefitted from Tavarish and Shmee so maybe he could assist
To quote the old lady from Apollo 13 "If they could get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it", well Dean, if you get the parts, you will fix it....best of luck, we're rooting for ya!
Sell the remaining good ceramic disks use the funds to pay for a steel brake conversion. Will save thousands and the steels are perfectly good for the job 👍🏻
