Build a ballast box. 55 gallon drum filled with concrete or gravel. Make it fit the 3 point hitch. Or anything heavy. Like an old engine. Just don’t have it so it swings a lot.
I had a 283 that was cracked on both sides. ground a small valley in the cracks and filled with JB weld. never leaked or had any problems. put 50,000 miles on it , then sold the car. was still running 10 years ago.
When I worked at an engine shop all those years ago we used to drill a hole on the crack and tap it and then we had some kind of plug that would screw in and tighten it until its head twisted off, grind it smooth and drill another hole along the crack overlapping the plug you just put in and repeat all the way down the crack. Seemed to work good.
Put some water glass in the radiator and get the engine to operating temp and the water glass will seal block cracks. I always got my water glass at a pharmacy.
Pull the injectors and clean in ultrasonic bath. Test compression while out. Run some transmission oil to clean engine for about 10 hours and do oil change. Check all oil levels and condition.
Lever under seat is for remote cylinder or draft control. Leaning towards remote cylinder. You can rotate injector pump like a magneeder on old tractor to advance or retard spark. So it may help the hard starting diesel if you tweak the advance a tad.I would dry out block crack, vee it out some and JB Weld it full. Yep, it needs a counter weight on rear. If you find a set of farm tractor front suitcase weights, make a bracket fer the 3 point and hang em' on it. Al B.
Chain-up a worn out small block chevy on the back to keep it down. Epoxy that crack shut, and try some engine restorer in the oil. All that would be an interesting video. 👍
Another Ford in the yard!?! Your ratio of Fords to Chevys is quickly approaching mine! Try some marvel mystery oil in that old tractor. My ‘68 F100 had some sticky rings from sitting for years with nasty old oil in it (which looked more like tar)…and it freed them up and my smokiness has disappeared. I’ve never been a fan of oil supplements but that MMO works surprisingly well!
Dear Mr. Heavyshevy 👍👌👏 Great video about a great purchase! Congrats! I would definitely love to watch a restoration series of this old tractor. Until then maybe something like Marble Mystery oil or Seafoam can help a little (with stuck piston rings/leaking valves?)? Maybe also putting in something like radiator weld (fluid) into the cooling system is able to close the fine crack in the block until you will weld it? As seen many times on great Waylon Wires channel, a tractor with a front loader comes in handy often. Maybe you can even purchase a backhoe attachment. With that, you and this old Ford would be able to do nearly everything on your property. By the way: Pretty sturdy workbench Misses Heavyshevy is fabricating. You definitely taught your girls well. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
Make sure if you use any type of mower on the Ford tractor, put an overriding clutch on the PTO. I didn't and broke the PTO shaft inside of the trans. Good old tractor.
Love them old tractors and I have know idea what that engine is like but my old tractor I had to replace all the battery cables with new and much heavier gauge wire definitely help it start faster seems like them old machines have a hard time cranking them fast enough
I am sure that with out any doubt... you have a fence post in the yard just rotting away that has more intelligence than myself. I am pushing that seventy third birthday harder than first suspected. I do believe I told you I got bad mangled up in 2005. I could go on for days with excuses but dang it, they are just that.. excuses! You folks have said some of the nicest words of encouragement in the past, although with thousands of people sharing their "brilliance" with you comes to that "who the hell is this guy?? Long and short here goes another one of my very short comments that ya all can break down into chapters if bored enough. I have just got out of the hospital again... they sure do have so very pretty nurses an for that made it tolerable. Bottom line, ever one getting covid made me "think" (a loosely used word.. think) I had it. So after two weeks of saying "Ralfe" repeatedly, I was dehydrated bad... I had dropped thirty four pounds ... I can't complain about that little deal. I just no longer could stand up, I looked like one of those old movies where that weird doctor is leaning over his experiment screaming "Its alive repeatedly" ... I am the one he put those electrical plugs in the neck. I actually was being killed by a pump that they placed in me for the many failed operations. It had came to its end of life and it cut me off of my choice of drug dilata..some guys idea of legal heroin. Its makes me sick when it would pump the crap into me so kill the pain.. ya, but kill the patient with crap that would pull a bull to his knees. Our government knows stuff an so they tell you what your going to take, not fix the problem. I was that doctors cash cow practicing his skills on for his first human trial runs. I seen him the other day an he looks as bad as me so maybe being a doctor and writing your own "medication" ain't working so good. I have a different doctor now who will pull this thing out of my gut... at least I do loose another six and a half pounds! I will take that as a win. I am going to leave it to doctors to guess what is wrong and I will stick to making terrible choices of food combos. In other words, I had narcotics poisoning! So they hand me a pop can size bottle of damn substitute pills that I have to keep my pistol loaded an my dog guarding my door. Now other than being a great bit of stupid when I got a divorce an tried drinking myself to death, (oh, I ain't touched or allowed none of that crap in me for twenty seven years now) I hate drugs an what it has done to so many people... I was home less than a hour an some of past occasion, "people" had called oh so worried about me and "did I get some good drugs"??? Yeah they are sure worried about me. Well I guess I should actually make the comment now. My dad had a tractor similar to this one blowing more smoke than some chinese factory. He got it running barely an when its just running like that dog Lucky with the one eye, kinked up tail an three legs... he took Bon Ami powder and just dusted the open air cleaner as full as it would take it. I asked the purpose of that an he said to cut the glaze on the cylinders... hmm, it worked though kinda as the blue smoke had come down considerably so that after the first start running, it would pop right off. I am thinking if that worked for him, some Ajax or comet cleaner might be just as good. This much for sure, it did up his compression a lot! Now if you do try that, you might just keep it under your hat as we know that you are a "Hack"... might add that no malice intended there. Those back woods things might have a small amount of validity..what cha think?? I ain't seen no "advance timing" on a diesel before but sure they have it... myself, I don't start moving the fuel injection pump around as if it ran, then its set an no need to add that to list of problems. I myself had a old detroit engine in a yarder an it was worn to a limit so I hooked a propane bottle to it an it went another three or more years before I happened to be over on the landing and I heard a large explosion. A large amount of oil sprayed all over an dumped on the ground with the oil pan looking like it suffered from dynomite. I do know that had I been right beside it when it blew up, I might of never heard a pretty girl say "Morgan, your a asshole"" or other lovely words I don't seem to miss all that much. I think that woman of yours is intending to use as much mig wire as the tractor burns oil. Trust me, I think I love her about half as much as you do as shes a keeper or sweetheart! Good luck on the 57
Looks like it has a flamestart or even a heater/ glowplug in the inlet manifold, is that operating? If its a fuel fed flamestart it will make a huge difference to the starting even if the poor ole girl is a bit tired.
Coolant froze cracked the block?? reason for a expansion plug in the freeze plug hole? My guess is the freeze may have warped a cylinder or 2 and thus the reason for the blowby...not fact just a theory
