Is this a scenario of "don't meet your heroes"? I've been daydreaming over this seemingly mundane hatchback... but haven't had the opportunity to drive one. Decided to take the plunge and bring you guys along for the ride! LZMFG.com
Eh... with some mods that drastically increase cooling? Maybe. I'm still not convinced the GR Corolla was ever fully tested for track use. It's got too many issues for that to have been the case, and I say this as someone who really likes the idea of this car and what it represents. On a backroad that's wet or snowy, this thing will be great. Even on dry pavement, it certainly wouldn't be bad. On a track, though, with even normal use after a couple laps? No. Not really. I've seen and heard the stories.
Top gear Australia tested one on track against the new type r and it even came in slower than an i20n. They definitely need a bit more power to live up to the full potential
@@Magicwand08 I would agree with you if this was the GR Yaris. It isn't. It's an AWD hot hatch that's based on the $20k Corolla platform. Obviously, there's been a lot of fundamental changes made to the car which get it to the level of performance it has, but to say it was designed for gravel or dirt is just being dishonest. It wasn't. It was fundamentally designed to be a road car for daily use, as well as some spirited driving. Toyota knew for a fact that people would track this car; hence them offering the Morizo Edition for people who want that much more performance on track. The major issue with the car is that it isn't built well enough to handle track use (even including the Morizo Edition). Like I said already: even normal track use (seven tenths to eight tenths) is going to result in this car overheating and showing major signs of performance degradation. You simply can't track it reliably. I wish you could, but the reality is that you cannot. The GR Corolla is a backroads monster and seems to be amazing in snowy conditions, but on track, it falls short in many key areas. From everything I've seen and read, that's just the reality of the situation.
Anything GR gets the tick of approval. In an era when enthusiast cars are rare, you gotta celebrate anything like this that carries that motorsport spirit.
We have the exact car you have (white Circuit edition) and the first thing you have to change is the tires. Put 265/35-18 Bridgestone RE71R tires on it. Align it with zero toe front and rear, -3 camber front and -2 camber rear. To get it to rotate in stock form, inflate rear tires to 65 psi. Also, you have not shut off all the nannies yet-turn on rev matching, press GR Track, then Sport mode then push AND HOLD the traction control button until "Expert" disappears from the dash-then you have nannies turned off
@@tannershanksftw You are probably correct but I promise that the Bridgestones would be 2-3 seconds quicker around the compound. Our car was 8 seconds quicker on an 80 second course
Loving mine as well! Disappointed when I have to take my Cummins or wife’s Range Rover cus I’m not driving the GRCE!! Bought it a month ago. I never knew this car was even a thing until I saw one in my local Best Buy parking lot, looked it up and digested every video on RU-vid about them and bought mine 2 days later!
How are you both liking it so far? Which one did you guys end up with and the price, if you don’t mind me asking? I am looking for one now and had one dealer try and tac on +$5k on a core/+$47k before taxes, tags, etc🤮Couldn’t help but to LOL at the salesman when he showed me that price.....could get a Circuit edition for that!
@@sirmonkey1985😂😂 so true! For a couple mornings walking up to my circuit edition for a brief moment I think yard cats have been walking all over my roof then it dawns on me. Lol
The boys in the UK build GR Yaris's into nasty 500+whp machines with sequentials. I think you should do the same, along with some good suspension and tire setups that might make this thing incredible. Awd drifts and all
You press down on the knob for 50/50, spin the dial to the right for 70R/30F ,and sping the dail to the left for 40R/60F Eagerly awaiting all future episodes on this car, Congrats! and thanks for providing this content
Adam.... "not enough hp to slide". It can 100% slide, your VSC isn't all the way turned off. make sure you're in sport/custom mode and just hold down VSC button until the EXPERT light turns off.
Don’t even think he changed the torque bias either. 50/50 is best for skids imo. 30/70 loses too much torque trying to reduce slip in the front wheels if it’s on a grippy surface. But 30/70 on gravel absolutely rocks if you don’t mind messing up your rear fender flares
the varis kits on these look absolutely killer, it fixes the slightly funky looking tri-exhaust system, and gives you two nice silver pipes in the middle
I love the tri-exhaust, the aftermarket exhaust I ordered is super similar to stock in terms of looks except with black tips. To each their own though.
@@MrBetaKiller100 completely fair, personal preference. i just don’t like how it has the side ones and the central, i’d personally prefer one or the other. i’ve seen some nice ones with type r-style triple centre exits
Two things: 1: always heat your vinyl before removal; it helps the adhesive come off with it. 2: I am STOKED you got a GR Corolla! I’ve been in love with them since day one, and I loved the review and can’t wait to see more! 3 (bonus): ALWAYS LIKE THE VIDEOS YA NERDS
@PennyGing There are several channels doing stuff with this platform. The most extreme would be Nemtec Racing. 500 HP. Sequential transmission. Way too much to list here, go check it out.
LZ you should definitely Varis widebody kit , engine upgrades , bigger intercooler & exhaust , suspension & wheels make it a absolute ripper call it done and enjoy 👌👍
Best review i have seen yet, love seeing the excitement on that first lap. the GRC feels like a Evo because Tommi Makinen was hired as a consultant for the development of the GRC
Hey adam, former toyota technician here, the IMT stands for intelligent manual transmission and you were right its just automatic rev matching for downshifts. Also the dealer won’t tell you this but that annoying seatbelt chime can be turned down or turned completely off. I have a corolla hatch xse and really want to upgrade to the GR Corolla and I’m glad you got one and are enjoying it!
I bought a lightly used dealer demo 2023 Core edition 2 months ago and I have loved damn near every moment with it so far. Hyped to see you getting into one of these!
@@CompressorSurge It's a very good all round daily. A practical 4 door hatch with 300hp, an excellent feeling 6 speed manual, and a brilliant AWD system. The ride is a bit harsh at low speeds (speed bumps especially can be a bit jarring), but cruising on the highway is very comfortable. Like Adam said in the video, it's not crazy fast in a straight line, but it really shines on a tight curvy road. The acceleration isn't "underwhelming" to me though, since my last 2 cars were an E46 325i and an NA Miata. I absolutely love the thing, and I'm very excited to see how it does on some snowy Canadian roads come winter time
Sport mode is completely different from 30/70 mode. Sport mode stiffens steering/quickens throttle response. You can select front/rear bias via a separate dial. Stock, without low traction surface it is difficult to get it to drift. Coming from another GRC owner here.
It drifts better with 50 50 just on how the awd system works off of wheel speed itll overheat the rear. I have a 2024 GRC and have been abusing it since the break in
@@bongboy5275 you can’t even roll out of the parking space without it assaulting your ears. A normal person takes a few seconds to put their seatbelt on at the begging of their drive. The car gives you zero leeway.
I like the fact that you just went for it and pulled the pin stripping right off. I didn’t notice it until you pointed it out and I’m pumped about the whole thing.. 🎉🎉
He'll yeah I love the GR yaris/corolla the amount of power you can squeeze out of that engine is legendary on par with the JZ / k series engines I want to see this thing pushed to its limits I bet it could be top spot on the leaderboard
The break in period is 621 miles I babied mine till then, did my oil change and started ripping quick for a 3cyl! Love mine glad you got one hope you enjoy it as much as I am with mine! 🔥
I fell like the rwd and awd corollas have a certain feel to them that just makes you happy. Even if they’re not the fastest or the coolest car there’s just that giddy feeling that you’re sliding around a grandma car and it’s ridiculously fun. And I feel like that goes back even to the ke20s
I like hearing your car reviews… I’m the same way when I get a new car there is like 6 little tiny things about the car that drive me crazy so I like to hear those little details
Hey Adam! I’m a GRC owner. The two things I highly recommend are gonna be a CoolerWorx short shifter (I have one and it feels INCREDIBLE) as well as an aftermarket pitch mount. I have the pitch mount from Grocery Getter Performance and absolutely love it. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours!
Buying a dream car so to speak is a very special time in ones life. I have been fortunate enough to be one of those, in 2003 bought a then new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 was the 2nd registered owner of one in California, the 1st being Mitsubishi in Cypress CA that Evo was used as a Press Car. In 2006 I traded my Evo 8 for a 2006 Evo 9 MR, and then in 2012 Evo X GSR with Sight and Sound. Performance wise, all 3 off the Evo's would keep up with this new GR4 which tells you how good the Evo was when we (in the USA) first got them. I am not mocking the GR4 at all, Happy Toyota FINALLY made a car I wouldn't mind owning, but they just brought it in 10 yrs too late. Then on top of that Toyota has no control over the Dealerships, or in most cases "Stealerships". In 2006 My Evo 9 MR for example was one of 600 made and I paid MSRP back in 2006. Why on earth Toyota feels $5k plus on these cars is "OK" is beyond me and the Dealers should be ashamed of themselves. Question on the GR4 though, is there no Center Armrest? When I went to test drive one it didn't have one, but it was a "Core" model, and I noticed this "Circuit" model didn't have one either. Is it an option or something? I would like a center armrest. The GR4 isn't the best looking thing out there, but its not the ugliest either, I noticed too my knee would hit the dash on the left side at times too, just enough little things to make me not want to pull the trigger on one. To those that did get one, and its your dream car, Congratulations, and enjoy it. GR4 really is a modern "Evo" in my eyes, and I respect it for that reason👍
You complaining about the seating position reminded me why I love my G37, telescopic steering wheel and seats that will adjust in almost every makes it easy to be comfortable
I was just thinking of buying one of these the other day lmao nice to see something a little different on the channel. looking forward to seeing where this build goes.
Dude this is great... This is the kind of content I waited for. Lots of people is already doing the JDM Imports, so doing something like this is different
Having been an Evo owner for 15 years now, I'm very stoked to see this car show up!! It's most definitely been on my radar as a car of interest. And yeah, 10/10 pinstripe needs to go!
6:49 so gotta say man the review format you do use works perfect for my adhd and it helps youre buying up all my when i make it cars 😂
Yooooo! You bought that GR Corolla right around the corner from me! New to your channel, and I finally get to hear/see some reviews on this car. Thanks!
Congrats on the purchase! I love mine, it's such a rowdy car. May not have the best performance, but it always puts a smile on my face. I love pinstripes. That one doesn't work.
This is REALLY SUPER SMART of you to have a car many can actually relate to/with... you should do all the normal things but still keep it relatable... bigger turbo, tune but keep it street worthy
Cat back, tune, wheels and tires you should do This white circuit edition is the exact option is what I was on the wait list for when it first came out but life had different plans. Stoked to see how this turns out
Bro I remember when you were riding bikes and shit and the mini and 335 was around, now mfs is one of the biggest car RU-vidrs now 🤞🏾 the perfect route was chosen
Actually pretty excited to see the Corolla get built, please keep this thing and build the hell out of it, I love these things but unfortunately will likely never be able to afford one, so, build one for people like myself 🤙🏻 pretty sure I’m not alone here 🤔
