I bought a Kessler Cineshooter - my thoughts vs the Rhino Arc 2

I was tired of using the Rhino Arc 2, so I picked up the Kessler Cineshooter and it seems to be overall easier and more enjoyable to use, as well as allows for more complex movements.
NOTE: My only issue with the Kessler Cineshooter is already solved - if you double tap the shift button on the cineshooter, you can control the remaining axis with the onboard controls, and continue to use the smart handle for everything else, so you don't need to use any other devices. It's actually quite convenient and my primary issue is already solved, only issue was my lack of knowledge. Thank you Kessler! Awesome job.

I stand corrected - if you double tap the shift button on the cineshooter, you can control the remaining axis with the onboard controls, and continue to use the smart handle for everything else, so you don't need to use any other devices. I did not know about the Laowa Probe lens. With the Cineshooter + the Probe lens it seems like one could do stop animation (repeatably, ala Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio - not the Robert Zemeckis one). The effect of the long smooth zoom into LED, like straight outta Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. But costing WAY less,...

This sounds like an interesting system, once I have got to grips with a basic slider/gimbal setup. I had looked at the Arc II for a while, but their firmware still has keyframe issues.

This is the first time that I’m hearing about the Kessler Cineshooter. Thank you for reviewing it. As a small or no crew shooter, if I have to fidget with a piece of gear too long, I won’t use that piece of gear and that piece of gear becomes a paperweight. If a piece of gear is intuitive and the value of results exceed the setup time and effort, then it’s a win/win if that piece of gear is within budget. Good (not random) camera movements add so much production value to a project when they are in alignment with the narrative. There is a movie that people probably mention as their first reverence to “the camera doesn’t matter” conversations, and when I looked at the camera movements in that film, even just in the film trailer, the camera movement for the trailer looked to me like 5/5 stars and I would have been extremely happy if my DP was that good on a project. But again, if the effort needed to set up a piece of gear for a camera movement, audio, or lighting etc. exceeds the value created by by that piece of gear, I won’t use that piece of gear. The Kessler looks super smooth which could be especially helpful for opening sequence titles for a film. 👍

When I click on your affiliate link to B&H is says the option for standard version and macro version. Which one did you get to test and do you happen to know the exact differences between the 2? I also have been really disappointed in the Rhino and edikrone slider, Tilta said they were going to come out with a slider for the Dji gimbal system and I was waiting for that but it never came out. I did message them recently tho and they said they are still working on it. Hopefully you could get a chance to review it if it ever comes out lol.

The macro has motors with more fine gear adjustments but the motors are louder, so I stuck with the regular version. I’m happy with it.

Your scene is beautiful first of all, love it. Question: is the whole thing really around 8000 bucks? That seems insane. Do you think it's worth it? I was thinking about the Axibo PT4 or the Syrp Magic Carpet 2 with the Genie 2 head.

Could you list the full components needed for slider, pan, tilt, zoom? Can an A and B point be set by physically moving the setup, or does it have to be driven to the desired position using the controls or app?

Yeah, the cineshooter, the slider, slider motor, focus motor (use for zoom), and mounting hardware. If you talk to the guys at Kessler they’ll build your package out for you. Mine ended up around $6700.

I’ve got both Kessler and Rhino systems. Until Rhino adopts external industry standard batteries, I cannot recommend them. Kessler, on the other hand, is bulletproof.
