In this video I'll show you my secret weapon for product B-roll in the Kessler Second Shooter Pro motion control system, as well as the newly released CineShooter head.
A fully motorized slider and motion control system gives you fine-tuned control over camera position and orientation to drastically improve the production value of your commercial work, product shots, and cinematography in filmmaking.
Synchronized pan, tilt, slide, zoom, focus, and aperture control along with Kessler's turntable opens the door to unique and complex shots you can't get any other way.
The Kessler Second Shooter Pro has been my go-to, but the new CineShooter head REALLY makes me want to upgrade. The great thing about the CineShooter head is the seamless integration with previous Second Shooter Plus and ro controllers that enables even more axes of motorized movement.

Is there anything specific about the Kessler system that looks particularly useful to you? Have you ever used a motorized motion control system?

Thanks! Since this video I've swapped out the CineSlider for their next smallest Stealth Slider since it's lighter and more portable and love it even more for taking with me.

Have you compared this slider and head to the edelkrone plus head ? I have the edelkrone head plus but the micro jitters is something that bothers me from edelkrone
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 2 года назад
I have not, but only start to see micro jitters over 50mm, usually around 85mm+. It’s been very minimal, and I always stabilize in post to perfection regardless. Hope that helps.

Very interesting but it looks really bulky. Feel like at this price, the Rhino Arc II is a cleaner more lightweight setup that does nearly everything the Kessler does. For bigger productions where being nimble doesn't matter, this looks like an amazing tool.
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 года назад
It is bulkier, although you could also get one of the smaller/lighter 22.5" stealth slider or 28.5" CineSlider. The one I have is 40.5", so significantly more travel than the usual 24" sliders. This system does probably excel more in a studio environment or on larger productions, but as a solo creator, the things I thought might bother me (the cables/size/weight) haven't yet, which was a pleasant surprise.

Do you have any videos of how noisy or quite the motor is for interview setups?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 года назад
Sorry I don't. I wasn't recording audio from my shotgun mic for my example footage of that. For interviews though, you have it very slow, and farther away than other noise-makers, so it's not going to be any louder than fans from lights on set, etc.

i have kessler crane mc1032 rev 2 series 1000 Can i use the new second shooter pro remote to control it?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 2 года назад
Sorry, that would definitely be a question for Kessler. I'm not super familiar with much of their other stuff. 😄
@joenicklo

Whats with the jumping/shaking at 2:13? Was that the turntable?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 года назад
Yep. I don't have the Kessler turntable, so that's just an example shot of what you can do with a slider and a turntable. It's from a shoot a year or so ago with a $70 motorized turntable from Amazon.
@joenicklo
@joenicklo 3 года назад
@@NewLayer yeah I figured. The one I picked up has wobble too :(
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 года назад
@@joenicklo Yeah mine is less of a wobble and more of a "jerky" motion, but that's what we get for not shelling out the big bucks, haha. Mine is only noticeable shooting liquid though, which happens very rarely, so I'm fine with it for now.

Haha. Rhino definitely has some plus sides, but I personally especially like the modularity and stability of this for the type of work I do.

Do you experience any micro jitters with your Second Shooter Pro? I've heard that the Second Shooter is better for slower, more finesse/smooth shots (IE probe lens) compared to the Cineshooter. Would you agree? And finally, would you recommend a 5' slider or a 3' slider? Do you ever find yourself wishing you had a long slider for product shots? Thanks a bunch!
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 2 года назад
I don't experience micro jitters any more or less than other good sliders. They are all very similar, and it mostly depends on focal length used. 35mm or wider, no problems at all. 50mm, you MIGHT notice something on some shots, but post stabilization fixes it 100%. 85mm+ you'll see them, but again, post stabilization fixes it right up. I always use post stabilization even on gimbal or slider shots because it takes them from excellent to perfect. I think the Second Shooter and Cineshooter can both essentially get identical shots. The Cineshooter has the ease of use, different payload, etc that makes it worth the money to some. I have never needed a longer slider than 30-32", so no. 5' to me is very cumbersome unless you have a huge space. Hope that helps!

Nice review. Any chance you could do a side by side comparison between this one and RHINO ARC II? There’s not much on RU-vid on this new system and how it really stacks up against others so anything you could provide from indoor interviews to outdoor adventure would great! Also, it sounds like Kessler has new software compared to the Rhino which has been out for awhile and wonder how long it will take Kessler to catch up and how much they will invest in firmware updates.
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 года назад
I would love to, but unfortunately these systems are so expensive they are hard to come by, especially with manufacturing being so backed up for the whole last 12 months. I’m replacing my 40.5” ConeSlider with a lighter and shorter 27.5” Stealth Slider, so I don’t see myself wanting to switch systems any time soon. I’m not too familiar with Rhino’s PC/Mac/iPad software, but the kOS software allows for crazy fine tuned control.

9 axis!?? I have trouble remembering the 5 axis of IBIS!
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 года назад
Haha. Yeah, it's kind of odd the industry calls things like focus, zoom, iris/aperture, turntable, etc. each a different "axis". Kind of like how time is the 4th dimension.

Yeah, it’s been a tough year for sure! Any chance you could put together a video w Eric from Kessler so people who are making a buying decision have a more complete picture of what the new system offers that other system don’t offer, and what is going to be coming in the next 6 months in software updates. It would be nice to see you create a review like this one but on the Kessler system. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uUE6iKlTJSs.html

I wish I had more time to do multiple videos on individual products and systems. Unfortunately there's just way too much stuff I want to cover. Maybe I'll be able to do some livestreams in the future to answer questions like this.

It's definitely a big purchase! I've been researching motion control systems for a long time, and had the GVM 3D at one point, which was less than $1K, but unfortunately it just didn't work because it was shaky, weak, and didn't connect half the time.
