Hopefully, I can get to this level down the line. Love the passion for tech and equipment. I was always the type of artist that was just satisfied with any tech as long as I could get my artwork done. But now I'm getting more interested in HOW tech and equipment works, partly thanks to you for making it hip haha. Feeling a lot of productive positive energy coming from you lately, Adam. It's great to see, just what we need in these crazy times :)

I've had both systems. And as you say, they both have strengths/negatives. I just did the trade up for the newest Slide Module v3 for SliderPLUS v5 Long and I purchased the new remote and also the backpack. I thought Gerald's video wasn't completely on point. But no product is perfect. When I first received my HeadPlusPro in 2018, after two weeks I had so many bugs that Edelkrone sent me a new unit. It is expensive, and I don't use it as much as I thought I would...but when I do, it greatly elevates the quality of the production. Cheers. Thanks for the video.

Adam - this video is simply amazing! You just saved me a lot of money and time... I was literally about to buy the rhino after seeing the video from Gerald. But you totally convinced me, to go with Edelkrone. I need reliability and you just nailed it! U turned the "weak spots" into an advantage and I can really feel, that you know, what you are talking about. I mean - you obviously use this stuff as a professional. Thank you so much! Hey Adam, Great video some very valid points. I did have some questions about jitter. I have been seeing some videos about how terrible Edelkrone jitter is and footage is unusable at its stop and starting points, and also unusable for macro? What is your experience in these areas?

Hey did you try the sliderone v2? I’ve watched a couple of videos on RU-vid where people complain about some micro jitters. I want to get that system but I don’t want to invest if there are some issues like that
@fatheadmediapro

Actually just bought by Edelkrone slider. Had the rhino and I had similar issues. Tried to do a longer tilt and the rhino motor itself made that horrific noise and I thought it stripped out. Customer service was great, but eventually they just said it’s not yet capable of doing a move like that. Unfortunately I sent it back. I wanted to like it but it just seems like it wasn’t ready yet for its debut. I am giving Edelkrone a try. I like that it’s modular and I can buy pieces as I go. And maybe one day get the Jib!

Just a question now that I think of it. In Gerald's video he mentions the issue with the focus module? Have you had any issues in that area? I am thinking of getting the Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 G OSS Macro Lens, which I believe Gerald is actually using in that review video, but I worry that the unit will be a complete waste of $ with that lens. What would you recommend?

Yep my Arc II is lovely on paper. In practice though there are a lot of little things like the battery, the app limitations (in that there is *no* app for android!) and the promises for updates which never see the light of day... I truly wish they'd made a version with an external battery that mounts on the motor and has the mounting plate a little more centered on the head. My camera sensor is about 2 inches off the rotation center of the Arc II.

Thank you so much for this video. I've had some issues with my Edelkrone system, Was looking at switching to Rhino, just today. My biggest problem is with the Headplus focus module, which you don't have. If they can make that work properly, I think that it would be the ultimate. Buy the jibone! Please do a review of it! After hearing of this, I'm glad I went with the edelkrone camp instead. Was so torn between the Arc and the Head Plus 3 years ago when the Rhino Arc was being pre-released. I've very little issues with my edelkrone and I'm only a hobbyist so not getting full use of my gear often. Though when I use them, it's ready to rock. And their support is blazing fast and helpful.

I’ve used the original version of the sliderplus with motion and target modules for 4 years. it was much simpler “dumb” hardware, but did the job it needed to do. But from many hours of use and abuse on shoots the target head motor had failed 2 months ago. Support and management from edelkrone have been very easy to work with when I told them about my issue. They asked me for a video to explain what I was experiencing so that they could better asses the problem. I wanted to move to a current setup anyway if they couldn’t fix the original. They give me a additional discount on top of the trade up program value. Without any hassle. I told them I was happy before and I will continue to upgrade and use their system if they keep supporting them. So I now have pretty much got a brand new system for less then a 3rd of retail price with more functionality and it’s beter then before. Edelkrone does have its quality control issues, which they seem to always stand of the customer’ side to make it right.. And because of the modular design. They can replace or improve hardware fairly easily. I am convinced not having physical controls was done to later on sell the hardware remote. I don’t mind the app...but the second it’s no longer supported or discontinued it will brick the whole thing. Anyone using this, will want to have the dedicated controller instead of using the app.

I just looked at Gerald's review, albeit that it's 3 years old and this video is now 2 years old. Has Edelkrone managed to solve the inevitable issue that nearly all center mounted sliders seem to have: the slight dip at the far end of the slider. Is it possible to mount the Edelkrone on two stands/tripods?
@dashvproductions
@dashvproductions 3 года назад
I saw the other video you mention right after I placed a very large (and my very first) Edelkrone order on Black Friday. It’s nearly scared me away. But I wanted a full integrated package and honestly Rhino just doesn’t have a full enough suite of tools (yet) for what was looking for. I decided to keep my order but was biting my nails the whole time (it took a month for everything to arrive). I got the slider, pan pro, jib one, laser module, focus module, turntable. I went kinda nuts. Anyway. I wanted to say that the complaint he had about forced software updates has been addressed. The app now shows that there is an update available, but it’s completely optional now and you can skip past it to use the app and update at a more convenient time. I do find that the focus module skipping and overrunning the gears during initial setup is a problem. But I can work around it by holding the camera and focus module together during power on. Overall I’m quite happy with my purchase so far.

Look at some cheaper options like the GVM motorized slider. Lighter, smaller unit, and if using just for time lapse you don’t need $3k motorized sliders.

Thank you so much for your review. Your style is delicious. You did not mention the possibility to use stability arms in order to avoid the double tripod. Since the edelkrone doesn t seem to have holes at opposite ends to mount something i guess it is not possible.

Thanks for putting this together. I found his video a bit off-putting in the sense that I got the impression he didn't fully understand the usage of the edelkrone system or didn't know how to use all of it's features. It takes awhile to learn how to use edelkrone gear to meet your specific needs. I also found Gerald's video is being run as an Ad if you search this topic - I don't know if that's him or it's Rhino 🤷‍♂️

Man i wish I could say I had the same experience with the Edelkrone stuff. I purchased the slide module v2, headplus, and sliderplus pro long. It was plagued with jitters and at times even jerking. The headplus was not backlash-free and the entire setup cannot be used to shoot anything that requires elevation change (inclining the slider). The support was prompt and I was refunded and purchased a Kellser Crane system which was more robust than the edelkrone or Rhino stuff. But Kessler Crane stuff is extremely inconvenient lol. Im thinking the stuff I purchased from Edelkrone back in late 2018 which was when the V2 stuff was released was probably defective due to early release. So according to your review, I may give them another shot. And just buy the JibOne for shots that require elevation change.
@brianbystrek
@brianbystrek 3 года назад
Have been thinking the same in buying a Kessler Crane slider for the same reason for simple non-multi axis shots. At least for what I'm aiming to do with it, the Shuttle Dolly or Shuttle Dolly mini seems to be a reasonable fit. Leaning towards the full size one. Very bulky in comparison, but should be very stable. Not in the category of what this video's about, but I'm just frustrated with the bumpy/irregular motion of the two relatively inexpensive ones that I've owned.

So can you elaborate more on this macro slider work you are doing. All production crews I have worked with when using a full cinema camera and slider use two stands of some sort, ie one on each end. The advantage besides stability is the flexibility of creating a level slider or sloped angle if desired. The smaller sliders I have used which do not cantilever out like the Edelkrone can be mounted to ball camera head using the standard camera plate provided you have some sort of triangular stabilizers that connect at least one end of the slider to a fixed point on one of the tripod legs. iFootage make those and will work with any slider provided there is some sort of threaded mounting hole on the end of the slider. Having said that this does not make the slider ILM gantry motion control level solid at all. There will be some wobble. With your macro work not hitting the designated spot could be a stability of the slider structure itself. If there is movement the motors may be in the right spot but the mechanism holding the slider might have moved ever so slightly. You yourself indicated a 2-3 cm dip in the slider when at the ends of a carriage movement. That would mean you certainly would not be able to hit a pin point macro shot accurately. If you want CNC level accuracy you will need to have a completely lashed down system like a gantry where the motors can replicate the movement without fear of the structure moving. Can we assume you have been successful with the Edelkrone setup at doing those macro slides. I have done a fair bit of tabletop relatively close shooting of products and had to do this manually to be able to be somewhat precise. But I certainly would like to see what options are out there for motion control so that the shots can be duplicated over and over with ease. The only criticism I have read on the Edelkrone system is payload capacity. Check out B&H reviews. When you are using the Edelkrone jib and head for 3 dimensional motion control some have found the head alone eats up the majority of the payload capacity. Have you had any experience with the motion control on a jib from Edelkrone? Be interesting to see if you can get your macro shots that way. So did you return the Rhino?

Hello Adam I watched your video directly after watching Gerald's. I was very impressed with Gerald's video, he clearly used both systems, but more importantly demonstrated the use of each right there on camera and the edelkrone app was woeful. Now you point out that you have rarely ever had a problem with the app, but this video would have been much improved if, like Gerald you had demonstrated the set-up. The app only application is a real issue to me and is certainly a deal breaker. Neither do i think that the remote is an answer, it isn't a controller I think, literally just a remote, so useless for timelapse for example (I may not have understood this device fully). The various other issues are non-issues to me, you just get used to connecting things in whatever way they connect, but an app only set-up is a real problem and as I say a real response to Gerald's experience would have been to show the set-up process yourself. Many thanks for taking the time Dave

@gregjarrell961
@gregjarrell961 2 года назад
The biggest issue I have with this review is that you're not comparing apples to apples. The other big issue is you don't actually demonstrate any of the differences. Maybe you got rid of your Rhino equipment and couldn't? Regarding the edelkrone sliders, I started with the SliderPLUS Long and could never get video without jiggle, or jumps, or some sort of motion problems as actually demonstrated by Gerald. I switched to the SliderONE PRO (which I consider an upgrade, even though the price is the same), and have been much happier. Why you would compare your HeadONE setup with the ARC II is a mystery to me. ARC II with Rhino slider appears to give you pan, tilt and slide. With the edelkrone setup you have, which happens to be the same as mine, I have never been able to do all three functions in one go-it's always been pick two. The other glaring difference between the two setups is ARC II gives you the option to add an electronic follow focus component. With your setup the best edelkrone offers is their manual FocusONE, which I also have. For me, it's completely useless because, once again, I get shaky video from touching the camera, especially when it's in motion. It seems with edelkrone you may need to go big or don't bother. Which is fine, just stop selling the pieces that give folks janky video. Based on your review, Gerald's review, and my personal experience with edelkrone I'm going to give Rhino a try. But I'm not planning to ditch my edelkrone equipment just yet.
