Congratulations and welcome to the world of defender ownership. Well done buying a td5 and buying it based on chassis and bulkhead condition and mileage they are the main things to look for. A great blank canvas but also a huge money pit! Only thing ive seen of concern from this video is the rear crossmember has a plate over it so i imagine the back of the chassis has holes in it

That is sick! Really looking forward to all the videos, Defenders are awesome! Just make sure to not try handbrake turns in it because the handbrake is a drum brake on the drive shaft, and the mounts are know to break and then the cable wraps around the drive shaft and rips the handle through the aluminum floor xD Edit: Name suggestion: Lenny the Lanny

Can't wait for this project car. Overlanding is so good. I watch Trailrecon on RU-vid, amazing adventures in the U.S. plus loads of ideas for overlanding. Road trips abroad with this overland project truck should make your views fly!

I've never been into 4x4's personally, but really interested to see how this goes. To me alarm bells are ringing if you're taking this to places with nicer weather, this doesn't have air-con and I'd say suits a British "green lane" more than anything. Perhaps it not being perfect is the adventure though. Can't wait to see how she turns out.

We just have done an interior rebuild on our td5 90, and my best advice is to get a slick shift from syncro gearboxes, a smaller steering wheel and sound proof it. It makes it so much nicer then standard, also raptor engineering do some nice dashboard bits to tidy it up and make it look less messy.

Damm boq, couldn't agree more with you on going plain and simple, I have a 1980 toyota hiace van that my partner and I are doing up. So far we have pulled the old interior setup out of it and given it a clean. We are currently in the process of insulating. Im certain you will want to insulate the defender for the cold weather in the UK, we've spent about 1200 AUD all up on material/foil tape/insulating foam. But yeah I couldn't agree with you more, function over form for this one mate, I reckon you should name him Trouble. Have a feeling it might become ironic in the not too distant future. Goodluck boq good to see you living YOUR life.

Glad you're not keeping the little license plate sticker - utter pish those. The LED lights and updated grill/bonnet are a nice touch! Very excited for the adventures that this car will bring

That's a Puma rear door too . Look at ORE products for the best rear wheel carrier. Best thing about a TD5 is how easy it is to tune as someone else said Td5alive are good. I've had Landys of one sort for decades and they've all been pretty reliable so but I sorted things before they broke and stayed on top of servicing. Landys are a way of life , they just put a smile on your face when you drive them.

You can very easily add cruise control to the td5 defenders - I’ve just done mine; It could be done for less than £15 if you use a cheaper switches. I went for disco 2 switch to make it OEM looking as possible. Well worth a look if your planning long journeys 👍👍

Mint defender man. Regarding the tyres, I would keep the diameter and width (here in Australia a 33 is about the smallest u want offroad and very common) then go to a 15x8 rim.

If you are changing the wheels go for 15" s.....and big tyres you can run at low pressure off road, it's the way to go 👍
