I have a 2018 model and I love the thing. I have it over at a friend's farm that I am letting him use it for his maple syrup business now that he has retired from dairy farming. It gets him anywhere on his property and there are a swamp and a big hill that it gets thru just fine. Enjoy it and you can get efx motohavoc tires for it to help traction
I've a mahindra jeep from 1980s i live in hilly region in india. Almost done 500,000km I've changed the clutch plate. Anyone worrying about the reliability. If an Indian says its reliable damn sure it is. Unreliable vehiclee never sells in india.

It all started during WWII era with Mahindra licensing Willys Jeep. Since then they have a 70 year heritage of building Jeeps ✅. It's more of a Jeep than Jeep FCA.
My family had 1993 model commander the year i was born ! We sold that in 2003 and there were no issues at all with engine! And the guy which we sold still uses it! No engine work even after 27 years ! Thats Mahindras engineering 🥃🥃
When I was 17(50 yrs ago! lol) my brother owned a 1945 Willy's, it sounded JUST like that! I'm in Oregon, we were headed to the coast, spun a bearing, pulled over dropped the pan pulled the rod-cap pushed the piston up put the pan on & drove back to town & fixed it, on 3 cylinders! Nice score for the farm!
It's not a Wrangler at all, it's essentially a diesel powered CJ5 as stated in your first sentence. A real Jeep. It's pretty cool just the way it is (except for that hokey top) , or one could give it a 225 or 231 Buick V6 and really have something there. Kaiser used the 225 Buick in 1960s CJ5, CJ6, and Jeepster models.
This is more akin to the original jeep that was selected by the US military in the early days of WW2 . Only slightly modified from the mil spec version to be more like the original Civilian Jeep that Willys licensed to Mahindra, right after the end of the war. They are more original than the CJ-5 ... The Mahindra is a far better bargain and will probably prove to be a vehicle with a much longer life expectancy than any Fiat Chrysler "jeep" at twice or three times the price ...just wish they could bring in their pickup trucks... a real tough truck that every American manufacturer fears ... Mahindra... just better made.
Got one on the farm here in Arkansas and we love it! Pull diesel 1,000 gallon diesel trailers around the fields to different power units also have pulled a 35 foot header once! Lol

The vehicle is very simple and the diesel engines M&M makes are extremely rugged and time n again it has proved since its existence. It might not meet the expectations of everyone but M&M carries a strong reputation of making long lasting vehicle in SE Asia. Watch out for the release of Thar 2020 tmmrw
I love these things! I’m a sucker for old school but the thought of buying an old school willys/cj style vehicle I get to work on is cool. Jeep needs to get over being mad at the Roxor and try giving the people what they want. Great video man can’t wait to watch your other roxor videos.
Indians have been listening to that engine roar for the past 75 years... With that said, I can tell you a few things... That “Mahindra diesel” is gonna last you like for a long time... Now you may have to spend a few on repairs once in a while but that engine is literally “Bulletproof”... Don’t worry about the ground clearance at all since the wheelbase is too short to let the Roxor scrape it’s belly, almost anywhere... Personally I’ve owned other Mahindra models (Since the Roxor isn’t available in India) like the MM540, MM550, Classic, CL550 MDI, Mahindra Thar and now waiting for the Thar 2020... Let me proudly say that it’s gonna turn up into a very notable investment for the long run... Happy and safe miles ahead!!! PS: Just make sure that you take care of that floorboard pretty good cause it can rust like crazy if you don’t... Now I know it’s not a major fix but hey, precaution is better than cure isn’t it!!!
The Roxor is closer to the original jeep than the Jeep corporation is producing. If they were smart they would still be producing a nice simple stripped down road legal version. Hell what we need in this country is a basic pickup truck for people who actually use one for what they were intended. Too many guys rolling around in 40K pickups with tonneau covers that never see anything but luggage in the bed.

When I purchased my Honda SxS 1 1/2 years ago there was no local Roxor dealer. I Had seen the Roxor at a car show and it did look interesting. The 3 things that had me buy a Honda was I had a 12 year old Honda that had never let me down. Limited locked storage at my property, the Roxor is longer. And I use my SxS for chores and wanted a dump box. I never leave my property with the SxS so I don't need the road/off road capability. If I used it for recreation I would have maybe looked at the Roxor further. Thanks for the video.
I worked in India for five years, managing the Indian branch of a German transmission company. The Mahindra jeep has been almost completely unchanged since they took it over from Willy's. Solid and mechanically reliable.
I can't stand jeeps but to say this side by side with a jeep like shell is better then a jeep is just silly. A jeep could climb over this. Its a side by side period.
My father had a Mahindra major which was a modified version of jeep cj3b. Mahindra jeeps were used in some rural areas in Kerala, India in the late 90s for transporting people. Those jeeps used to climb hills with ease carrying 12-15 people onboard.
Please get some anti-rust coating done underneath. That's the weak point of Mahindra's machines. And that's where most people ignore to clean up regularly.
@PatrickMCcolley Do they retract the warranty for anti-rust coating in US? That's interesting!! In India, most dealers do it on a new vehicle at extra cost without affecting the warranty. Here, warranty gets affected only if you make structural changes or add accessories that affect the normal functioning of vehicle's features.
That jeep is first vehicle from Mahindra. Before Mahindra used to supply weapon and spare parts in WW2. Jeep Became legend in india. light weight, more torque, metal built, off road it is perfect Vechicle for 1970's and 1980's india. Jeep Became it's owe class later Japanese company Suzuki brought Gypsy, Force brought Gurka competition to jeep. It also changed Mahindra and Mahindra company.
Awesome video my friend! As a fellow Thar owner from India, I hadn't heard of the Roxor until I saw your video. Quite stoked to know that they are the "Import variants" of the Thar to say the least. The Jeep has a very close resemblance to the "Mahindra MM-540/550 Jeep" (Thar's Predecessor) (I also own an MM-540 along with a Thar). The engine quite sounds like the Mahindra DI Engine which comes with the Non-AC variant of the Thar. Mahindra is a very trusted brand in India. My Dad has also owned a lot of Mahindra vehicles before. You can get Mahindra spare parts very easily and everywhere, and also cheap! Glad to see you are enjoying the Roxor. I also stay in the countryside and do agriculture. The Thar is a valuable asset at my farm.
I've been driving a Mahindra Xylo since 2012. Got hit in the back and the car turned over but amazingly not a single scratch or mechanical damage. Got it on its wheel and drove home back from the crash. Fixed the cosmetic and body up and it's still running as smooth and reliable as ever. Mahindra cars will never give up on you.

Jeep in the 40’s commissioned Mahindra to make the Willies Jeep for the war effort to reduce cost, transportation and expedite to the war effort. Mahindra still owns the Jeep patent hence why it looks like an old Willies Jeep.
This vehicle never stop performing...no matter how long u drive this...most reliable Jeep (mahindra),this is a rough n tough off roading jeep,with no safety features, luxury,comfortable.
That’s literally a ‘60’s Jeep we/some extra bells and whistles(like a roof, etc.). You should be quite happy with that machine. I look forward to another review.
PRETTY SWEET!!! I gotta 51 W/O jeep "ranch ride". I call it "Sarge". My dad and I picked it up for $600. Somebody camo painted it at some point, hence the name. No, it's not a Korean vet, but it's trailer is. Has the original 6v system, and gas burner motor in it. Register it as a utv, and is street legal. But boy! When you fired that up, I was reeeeally envious of that diesel motor. When you gotta fleet of diesel's, and fuel tanks, it's kinda hard to remember to go fill up your gas cans.... lol! AWESOME!!! CONGRATS!!!

this is absolute Farm machine, the Thar here in India is updated, this is similar to Mahindra Major (Jeep CJ3B) and its a short box. these were in 1990's . value for money and still a lot of enthusiast in India cary huge loads on these with ease
Hi Brian, the centre console and rear bench seats from the Indian version (Thar) would be a perfect fit on this. Heck even the doors with power windows n everything should fit. Shipping it will be a pain though. Maybe after this COVID thing settles down we could figure something out. Hope it gives you many miles of joy!

Hello, it was nice video, here in India Mahindra is one of major automobile brand.... and Mahindra has it's basic idea of design simplicity and pocket friendly price. If Roxor has decent fuel efficiency, balanced torque and justified price then it is great and no need to compare with Ford or Jeep... It is completely different package at different price range..... But Roxor looks like WW2 Military vehicles compatible for air transport and air drop.
There's something about a side-by-side made to look like a Jeep that us so much more appealing to me. Regular side-by-sides just seem like over priced toys. Although, for the price of that thing, I think I would prefer a used Suzuki Sidekick, Sligo, Rodeo, etc. They're MUCH cheaper, have an enclosed cab, sunroof, A/C, heat, stereo, are already road legal, faster, have tougher a 4x4 system, etc. But that's still really cool! I think a stock Jeep Cherokee or Wrangler only has 8" of ground clearance.

I too love the Roxor, it serve my purpose. i used it both onroad and offroad. Sometimes i used it to pull a 1.5 ton trailer carrying stuff and water etc
You boys could easily put a simple 'A" frame on the front and when you have to be away from the main house you could tow it out with you behind a cultivator or even your header trailer.
Itd be cool if u could put a flat cushing along the back on each side...then install a hinge so you can lift each side up! and seats fold up and turn into a deep truck bed!!💯💯🤘 Just an idea!!
Nice video Brian. Yeah its functional farm vehicle. Does the job very well in all weather conditions(you may watch the TFLOffroad Canada video). Not a fancy toy for the high society guys, those who don't understand farm and farming or off road driving. Yet they'll end up buying high end 4x4 for no use.
Vice Versa? Kaiser mounted 225 V6 'Dauntless' (Buick) engines in CJ5s in the '60s (I have one in an ol' flattie). Unless this frame is drastically different, it should be a piece of cake to fit a Roxor with a beefed up 225 or 231, 4 speed, and Dana/Spicer transfer case with Warn (Saturn) overdrive.
This is a CJ-7 tub with the older Kaiser/Willys front clip length, note the bottom of the front fender where it bolts onto the tub. AMC lengthened the CJ a few inches at the back of the front fenders.

Nope Roxor can't be Road Legal in India too. It's doesnt have any safety equipment required for it to be like ABS and Airbags. The THAR which is a big brother of Roxor is Road Legal. You are confusing the two

New thar look like jeep wrangler in many aspects. Its like M&M is challenging FCA on home ground for the design dispute they can make. FCA are totally unreliable brands, Fiat quit India recently, i wish they make reliable cars in future.
You are spot on! I’m a Jeep owner and I agree that instead of bitching and suing Mahindra, they should build their own CJ3 or even M38 version. They’d sell a ton of them. If I didn’t have my Honda Pioneer I’d be tooling around in a Roxor.
I like the idea of vehicles that are simpler and more reliable. These days, too many vehicles are loaded up with computers and sophisticated electronics, which ordinary home mechanics can't fix. It all just adds up to more expense, and puts DIY maintenance out of reach. At least vehicles like these aren't overly complex, and are relying on past proven designs & engineering.
I drove a mahindra on my first farm i working on...oh boy what a bullet he was....great for driving on the fields, but on normal roads....man ... go out my go out my....we just him for serving the pivot, feeding cows and do the seedtransfer....rember this was 1999 in in germany, niedersachsen. I wish you the best with him....the painwork on the fenders looks a bit .... empty...whats about a new fanstickerplace ?
I am an Indian and that idol sound gave me a nostalgia. I don't know about your requirements and vehicles you drive but one thing is for sure these machines can survive decades. Tata and Mahindra might not selling as much cars as maruti suzuki even in India but they are masters when it comes to these type of solid and rugged vehicles specially mahindra as it has more variety and models which can used in farms, bad roads, mud. And in India that color vehicles are only made by companies on special orders for Indian army. One more thing is that these machines are not made for speed as they are made for bad roads and no one rides them fast either.
Nice to see a Mahindra again. They used to be available in the UK, in the late 80s / early 90s. I read that they may be returning to the UK market next year.
Reverse on most of standard vehicle is high speed. This vehicle remember the ILTIS. I m a Canadian military and the Bombardier Company was building a Jeep for the Canadian army and it was a clone of Volkswagen Jeep. You will have fun with this Indian Jeep.
Mahindra Thar brings back so many memories. Its super tough vehicle. A very old variant of this vehicle in 1998 we were using for a family safari. My mom took out a camera and the gorillas thought it was some sort of gun and they leaped towards us to attack us like, like 10s of 100s of them merely 20 feet away. Our driver was super skilled and our mahindra (open air) super reliable even without any form of road. He immediately sped away and the gorillas couldent give a chase. Our mahindra took us through rock, river stream, marsh mud alike and in good speed. Mahindra saved my familys life.

Hey Brian, I been course about these because we have a dealer in my town (Lancaster, Oh.) And my first thoughts were what in the jeep is this lol. But I did not know they had a contract to build Willy's back in the day, that is something neat. Great video and thanks on the great info and can't wait on all the build videos!
