Hello and welcome to Cambs EV's, a home for EV (BEV & PHEV) owners and those interested in adopting.
In this video, I am presenting my first drive in our new Ford Kuga PHEV where I list the things I like about the car and test its real world electric range.
We've only had the car for 2 weeks so I've mostly compared its spec and features to previous cars I've owned of similar type, SUV.
There will be a part 2 to this video, and probably a part 3! Enjoy.

Great video, I’m waiting to pick mine up as soon as things return to some kind of normality, I have ordered the st line in magnetic eco blue 2.0 Mhev first edition which includes the technology pack and drivers assistance pack , also has the quad core headlights, the only reason for not choosing the x edition was the panoramic roof as it decreases the height of the roof , being nearly 6ft 9 I need the extra roof height lol.looking forward to getting it even more after watching your video. I currently have a 17 plate st line kuga. What an improvement this new model is , A lot of people are saying they don’t like the new shape they need to go and see it in the flesh

Love the review ,we are getting the kuga st line x .1.5 150 .as ours has the panoramic roof also you seem to have plenty headroom I am 6 feet tall how is it for you ,do you think I will have headroom

The new Kuga is very nice, it felt a bit sketchy when they first released videos/images of it, but after seeing and driving it a couple of weeks back, I have to say that it’s very nice. Would’ve been nice with a bit bigger infotainment screen instead of the 8’’ one, but it’ll do I guess. And the amount of space you have in the backseat is soooo good. It’s huge.

Fun Fact. In China, Its Called the Ford Ruiji, and comes with a 12.8" Inch infotaiment, allways on internet service thingy they use there. Also the center console is a bit different, climate is managed on the touchscreen, and it has a Bio particle filter that cleans the cabin air, and they can get diffrent color on seats and interior. Europe just gets the "Standard" But at least in Denmark we get the Vignale Edition WIth 3 seat/side mirror memory:)

I do wish there was more manual adjustment in the regenerative breaking. Loving the door protectors by the way. That’s very cool. Wish these were standard on all cars. Wonder if these could be retro fitted to other cars???

Seems to be a push rod system that runs through from the door edge to the pillar edge.

Ordered an ST Line 1st Edition Plug in Hybrid on Sunday from local dealership and was supposed to pick this up on Friday but have been advised that all PHEV Kugas are on hold for release due to recall issue mentioned below. www.google.com/amp/s/car-recalls.eu/ford-kuga-phev-hybrid-battery-overheat-fire/amp/

That's very nice of you to say! To be honest, I've not driven it at night as yet! But, I do know that the cupholders have a blue lighting effect within them and suspect the rest of the car has too. I would definitely recommend it.

Also, how did you choice the ST Line X instead or the Titanium model ?

@@fanoscharalambous2098 I preferred the look and spec of the ST Line model. The panoramic roof was first on my list of extras after needing it to be a plug-in-hybrid and room for 5.

You should check out our group on Facebook (facebook.com/groups/kugaphev/?ref=share) for lots more insights but in the meantime, along with the B&O infotainment system, you get these extras with the First Edition models: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Traffic Sign Recognition (M/T, A/T); Driver Impairment Monitor (Standard on X-series and Vignale); Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) includes Parking Pack Advanced Automatic Park System Front/ Rear View Camera ; Door Edge Guards

Thanks for the video, I have one of these on order, I understand the first edition versions of the ST Line X have the driver assistance pack but can I ask if you paid the extra for the HUD or did that come with the car? Cheers!

Thanks for the informative video I'm really interested with the Ford Kuga PHEV just one question regarding charging. My company provides a charging facilties and just want to know if I need additional cable to use it. What cable was provided to you when you bought your Kuga?

Hi Alex, glad you liked it! The car came with a 3pin cable and a Type 2 cable for public and, if you have a charger, home charging. I've no doubt the Type 2 cable will suffice for whatever facility your business has. Just also please remember as this is a PHEV with a relatively small 14KW battery, it will charge faster depending on the facility your business has and given it is a hybrid, BEV vehicle drivers will obviously have more of a need for the charger at times 😃

Sure thing, I was out this morning in it. Had it in full electric, switched to sport mode and floored the throttle. It wasn't slow! The engine kicked in though which I wasn't expecting.

Be interested in anyone's views please. I was close to buying one of these then I heard about the fire issues. The Ford dealer was happy to sell me the used car but said that I must not charge it . He had no idea when it would be rectified. It obviously put me off yet I still like what it offers. My thinking is that it will be sorted sooner or later but will all this effect it's depreciation.

Nice review. I currently have a Kia Niro and I have been eyeing the Escape and the RAV4 Phevs. Questions: 1. Is there an animation that shows when it's using the battery/gas? 2. In the Niro, it uses only the battery up to 70-75mph (according to the animation). Anything above that, it will start using gas. Can you share at what speed the when the Escape starts using gas? 3. What is the tank size? From your experience, what is the estimated range of miles at a full charge and full tank of gas? 4. Is there a Lane Keep assistance? If so, what do you think about it? Thanks in advance!

Hi there and many thanks, that's very kind of you to say! 1. Yes, within the SYNC3 system, there is an apps area that has an app that shows from where the car is using energy, it's a real nice animation. 2. EV now mode will allow you run in electric until 85 mph. The engine will also kick in in EV now and the auto mode if you accelerate hard enough. 3. The tank is 45 litres and will give roughly 350 miles of range, depending on driving style. 4. Yes, lane keep assist is a great feature and works very well. It's not too intrusive but if you use with steering assist (as demonstrated in the video) and cruise control, it's as close as you cab get to AutoPilot!

Cambs EV Hi, a good series of videos. Could you advise the speed at which the engine cuts in when driving normally in Auto EV mode and driving normally, i.e. not accelerating hard? I run a BMW 225ex and the engine will cut in at 50mph when accelerating normally.

Great Review 👍, I've been thinking of ordering one but due to COVID-19 haven't had much luck on test driving. Can you please confirm how firm is the ride as the ST Line X comes with sports suspension while the higher spec Vignale comes with a normal suspension.

Hi there, thanks so much.....hopefully the follow up will be available shortly! The ride on the ST Line X is 'firm' but not overly. I can only compare to my previously owned Peugeot 5008 and the Kuga is definitely set up for a sportier ride but as I say, it's also 'complient' in my view. They've had to tweak all suspension set ups to cope with the battery weight, only way to know is to test drive the 2.

A bit late to the party - do you know if the ST Line's suspension is slightly lower than other Kuga models? Also, how is the soundproofing (intrusive tyres noise etc.) ?

Vader UK I’m not sure that it is lower but Titanium and Vignale models will feel smoother over rutted surfaces. I don’t notice the road noise to be honest. Again, depends on the surface type.

Did you buy the driver's assistance pack? I thought only the Vignale model had reversing cameras and head's up display? But you're mentioning them on the ST LINE X?

Thank you so much! It may depend where you are based. Mine came with a Ford branded 3pin charger and an EV Box Type 2 charging cable.

@@fermapandele It takes about 6 hours from the 3pin plug charger to charge the car to 100%. At the moment though I'm only charging to 80% as I'm not using the car everyday.

is this worth having ihave 1 on order when i get it with few extras when we get back to reallity only thing is you had choice of black or red so iwent for black st line x just wondered about electric do you know how mutch to charge i have focus st line x at miniute i need some thing bit higher as had accident and broke my hip pleased found some one in uk to give there thoughts hope you do some more on this car am exited bit its all new tec to lots people i suppose

james thomas I think you will enjoy James. That’s a good spec you have chosen too. You will quickly get used to the electric running and start getting the benefits at the fuel pump too! You won’t need to fast charge as it’s fine to just use the 3pin cable that comes with the car. I don’t expect to put fuel in mine that often, maybe a top up once a month. Please ask as many questions as you like either here or within the group!

What was the actual combined fuel economy at the end of your trip?

Paul Ryan Hi Paul, since we got the car nearly 3 weeks ago now, the average is 65mpg total. That has come from a mix of 100 miles motorway at around 70mph average on engine and a number of 15 mile journeys (shopping trip and back) done mostly on full electric.

@@CambsEV no problem hey I am all for electric but not quite ready to convert myself partly because a lot of the cars are ugly and expensive but yet Ford have made a good looking car but a not a complete commitment to electric. BTW I drive an older petrol kuga.

Martin hi both, regardless of your comments many thanks for viewing. I take on board all comments, positive or otherwise. I prefer them to be constructive and I know my mannerisms won’t suit all. I’ve heard this point made before and in a much more negative fashion. I’m hoping practice makes perfect. I know other ‘RU-vidrs’ that have had to over come stammering by effectively re-wiring their brain to change certain words........amazing! I’ve also had others suggest they prefer the raw, under produced content .......good! As far as I’m concerned I’m still perfecting my art......after 2 videos! Best to you both and glad you engaged.
