Would love to see a more conservative build for the regular guy. Bullbar, raised air intake, 2” lift and some 33” a/t tires. Nothing crazy like a big ass canopy from patriot campers or a complete slide up kitchen with running water. Keep it simple like most people do instead off making it a rolling showroom of expensive stuff.
Every channel or TV show has done the "ultimate" set up a million times over on ever vehicle they have. I think we're bored of it. Those that have $30k+ to throw at a brand new vehicle just off the showroom floor have been endlessly catered for. I think we all want the bits n pieces and old gear reviews on individual items and ideas. Well over these pre fab'd, plug n play over priced Swiss army knives. We aren't all rich tradies.
Great choice. I’d love to see a build that doesn’t compromise daily driving too much. I got rid of my 4wd and went back to a car in Perth as I hated commuting in my 4wd.
Might have more power and torque than the cruiser but it is working its guts out to get it. Certainly wouldn't be putting a ecu tune on it. Toyota couldn't have styled it more like the biggest selling Ford Ranger if they tried. It's not the most sold 4wd if you discount mining etc vehicles.
Hey Ronny, love the truck. lets see how long you can keep the suspension stock. i have an 08 tacoma with stock suspensin with 320,000 miles. looking at upgrading to a 2021 tacoma. daily driver with weekend trips. but if i upgrade i will be getting a trailer.
Here in Canada we have the Tacoma. Mine was a TRD SPORT with a 4 litre V6. I just traded for a 2020 Tundra TRD OFF ROAD. The V8 makes 381 hp and 401 ft. lbs of torque. It is a bit thirsty. It is a shame Toyota will not bring a diesel to North America. I think VW sealed the fate. My 13 Tacoma had 170 000 kms on it...was dead reliable. About the hilux.....a fellow youtuber calls it the HONEYBADGER...can be the very devil to kill...lmao!
Hi Ronny. Could you do a few offroad tracks with your new hilux standard and then again when modified to see what difference the mods make. Great show mate. Keep it up. Cheers
Ronny, I like your new choice. In Europe we dont get your V8 ute so this new one is more “international” and I cant wait to see modifications that are coming. Keep it up! 💪💪💪
@@dubious6718 I think it's the same engine but with some re-designed internals. Here's a statement I read on the Toyota website "Under the hood, the turbo-diesel’s power has been increased to 150kW while peak torque on diesel automatic models has been ramped up by 11% to 500Nm. The power increase was achieved through modifications to the cylinder block, pistons, turbo design and cooling system."
@@olivermaskell6244 Reading between the lines, it sounds like they have increased fuel and cylinder pressures to give the engine better emissions and allow it to pass EU law.
@@olivermaskell6244 The reason we didn't get the previous 2.8 was cause it had to much "exhaust", it wasn't clean enough, so this must be a Euro 6 engine
Alexander Watson I thought it was true more because I have never met a car salesman who ever had enough time off to get to the bush, let alone justify owning a modded rig.
Hey Ronny. Good choice. Iike alot of other comments, I would like to see this build kept to a realistic budget. Some many people who have a channel like your self do builds that are very cool but not what the average guy can try to do with there own vehicle. It would be great to see a "real" build and just see how capable a 4x4 can be with only the must have upgrades. Looking forward to watching this one!
Fantastic man, that’s a cracking looking truck. I’m simply looking forward to watching a build from start to finish. However seeing what a stock truck can/will do will be awesome as well 🤘
Honestly instead of upgrading it straight away, take your own advice and keep it stock for a while till you find out what you actually need to make it a more capable 4wd. Nice choice btw, my uncle got a 2020 hilux and he loves it to bits
Haha good point. I think that's more directed at total newbies though while they figure out what they actually need. I think Ronnie knows what he's going to need because he already knows what he's going to be doing.
Please obey all traffic regulations. That's something I will have to change. Lol!! That cracked me up, a lot.... I still prefer the old facelift... This new Hilux looks more like a Ranger.
I'd love to see an aussie build like using local aussie companies for things. Things like a bullbar, scrub bars and sliders all locally built not the usual catalogue build where people go to arb or tjm and just throw everything on the catalogue at it
Yes Mate, it would be nice to see a more “budget build” effort to show that you don’t need the Andrew White excesses, and you’ll actually leave the tracks and do some proper exploring too!
Toyota needs to develop a v6 diesel for a higher performance option to Hiluxes and Forutners, or entry-level Land Cruisers as the petrol v6 is offered.
That will not happen with Toyota, they will only make cars they think you would want, not a car you really want, the Hilux to me is the most over rated 4WD on the market.
@@Renegade040 definately, mass bought to be a work vehicle, only reason sales are so high, bet you less then 1/10 hiluxs get bought to be used for decent offroading.
Congrats mate! However that "please obey all traffic laws" is horrendous, i bet turning it off voids warranty too. God i hate new cars with all their crap. I had to rip out all the beeping shit in my SV6, it's more distracting than helpful!
Congrats with the new car Ronny. To be honest, i would like to see something more related to the reality, not like when you have a never ending gold mine and you can buy everything. So you've bought the new vehicle, great! Now justify every purchase. Not from the prospective "because I can", but rather "why do I need to spend money on it?". For example, you don't like the stock wheels and tyres. Ok, show us these places where they fail and then replace them. Show that you really needed to go over something rugged because you needed, not because you wanted to go over ruts having a normal route just next to it. I have my 2010 hilux on highway tyres. I went everywhere, on beaches, on rocks, sand, mud and i never got bogged on this car. But i simply won't go to a deep shithole just because i want to test my car. No. There has to be a reason why I need to go there.
Some people don't take the chicken track every chance they get. Time to toughen up mate. If you havnt got bogged in your 4x4 then you havnt gone hard enough.
I'm a Dmax man but fully understand where your coming from with sticking to the brand you like and trust the most, but I will say the Hilux is my close second choice. Well done mate.
Be interesting to see how the new Dmax goes, they've brought it up to at least pretty close to the rest, ahead in some things, and just a bit behind still in some, but overall, it'd be close to the Hilux in the new models. Less dealership access in the bush maybe?
The resale value really mean a lot for some of us here, at my place i will need to spend 8 to 10k for 2.8L hilux 2002.. But for dmax, the price for 2010 model are around 10k Australia dollars..
That's an excellent choice I've had three hiluxs now iv'e a 2014 sr5 dual cab tows my 6mtr boat goes of road like a dream comfortable can't fault it. Great work Ronny keep it up
First congrats on the new vehicle. But why the SR5? I have had 2 SR5 N70s and regret not buying the std SR!! looking back!!! why everything is the same except for interior which honestly ime is not worth the extra cost, vs buying Stratos seats and decent suspension and tires and rims, the extra you paid for the SR5 version could easily have covered that and you’d have a much much much better Hilux than the SR5 could ever be, it’s like buying TRD nowadays you pay for shiny stuff, not better stuff, both my drivers seats gave out pretty easily and I look after my stuff, I just regretted buying SR5 not buying a Hilux’s, I’d never buy a top model again unless it has engine upgrades, suspension and decent interiors, even then and ai have a couple of special models in cars limited edition numbers made in production and rare as f**. stock Recaro’s, Enkei factory wheels for example, Bilstein suspension, the list goes on, but in trucks few can match proper aftermarket quality, even a Raptor if you look deeply has its weaknesses, I regularly drive Ranger Wildtracks and XLS models and I’d buy neither not for the money they ask, I’d buy another N70 3.0TDi SR last gen MT, with the chrome grill before they went the Ranger copy look alike, but the manual is well and truly better than the Auto, surprised you went auto as well, I have had both, the manual was a real beauty in the N70, great fuel economy and really reliable and easy to drive, one fo the smoothest sweetest MTs I have ever owned and driven. Surprised ya bought new, looks a bit like a Ranger copy with the grill, though all the Japs are doing it Mistsi, Nissan all trying to copy the Ranger, all common platform with SUVs hate that global platform shit. Good truck for the family and kids not an SR5 though, kids wreck everything, I understand though.. But new another off-roader imo a waste of money. my 2cents, I’d never do that again, twice wasted that much money, again my experience and I have owned and driven allot of trucks. I’ Those rims are terrible, burnings mall crawler rims, that’s what ya paid for bling. I’d save the truck as for the family kids, Kaino from Drifta did it right with his N70 which is a hell of a first rig for any kid, let alone a grown man who’s worked his butt off for 10-15 years to dave for a 2nd hand truck, but I give him his due he knows his stuff. But congrats, need to see this next to the 79.
Shhh don't give people ideas. If they cotton on to the SR and start snapping them up, Toyota will just jack up the price. I bought an SR and used the change to give it the works, best decision ever.
Mate I would love to see a series where you really put this vehicle through its paces in stock form. I feel like we are all influenced by manafacutes promotion of products. I know I drove my vehicle for about 18 months with nothing but ATS and had a blast. Like push this thing until you find what parts are letting you down off road upgrade then go again. Even if you made a series of work and play aimed at basic kit outs to suit weekend trips but not inhibit the ability to say pick up the kids or use for tradey tools.
The front of this really reminds me of the Ranger 🙃 Anyway, congrats on the new ride, I can tell you're excited about it. I'm looking forward to seeing the mods you put on this one 🙂
I upgraded to the 2019 Hilux Invincible X (UK Model), previously had a 2001 MK4 Hilux that I used daily and took up to 418,000kms. The reason I had to change was emissions, my work sometimes takes me to the big cities, and London was £100 (AUS$182) per day to enter in my old one! Manchester starts charging in the next couple of years too. Although a totally different beast in comparison, when the going gets tough it still has the confidence inspiring feel of my old Hilux, my main test so far has been a day in the ice and snow a week after getting it! My first mod were some Aussie Black Duck Canvas Seat covers - which my sister kindly shipped out of WA just before Covid Restrictions hit the UK.
Got a 2019 Hilux work ute biggest pile of shit, endless problems with the DPF emissions. spends more time in the repair workshop than out, hasn't even done 75 thousand k,s yet.
@@ecovention Different Engine 2-KD 2.4L in UK we have AdBlue (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) on ours as well, the trucks are built in South Africa and not Thailand. Under warranty for 5 years (160,000kms) so hopefully I'll be OK. Did like the simplicity of my old Hilux, used to service it myself.
Firstly catch can and secondary Fuel Manager fuel filter (Before factory). Bullbar side rails, larger 3inch s/s exhaust with full Torqit chip & tune package. New black 16 or 17 inch steel rims, Mickey Thompson MTZ or ATZ tires, 2 inch lift upgraded upper control arms springs and shocks, Upgraded disks and brake pads, upgraded intercooler and S/S airbox with K&N filter, Safari snorkel, Remove factory tub and replace with Alum PCOR or Norweld tray plus dogbox. 9500lb winch, Front locking diff, MaxTracks, Snatch straps, Seat covers, lightbars etc ...... Most importantly a lot of sucking up to sponsors to get all this for free !!!! Or at least for 1/2 price!! In order to achieve several months of content for RU-vid.
Hey Ronny, I’d love to see basic set ups for weekend camping / small trip’s and necessary mods like you said that can be justified not just because you can.
Harrop front e locker as I’ve done 32.2 inch cooper Tyers dobinson suspension Tjm signature alloy bull bar powder coated black, tmax winch, Lone Ranger 127 litre tank is a weapon
Congrats on the truck. I love the idea of the "average joe" build. I'm very interested in the suspension with the ifs and the capability of the truck after you upgrade it. Very jealous all of the other countries that get diesel options for the same cars in the states. Excited to watch the progress.
Hi Ronnie I'm a dmax man myself but each to their own. You have a very nice vehicle i love that colour. As for mods you mentioned tub liner I have seen some that rub the paint underneath and sweat. What about a black rhino spray on liner. As for your rims and tyres your tyre dealership should be able to trade in the current ones on your ute if they don't have too many kms on them and still in good condition.
Awesome choice great to see someone doing a normal car people buy! I have a Ranger but keen to see what you do to the new Lux. You going to keep the tub?
Plastic tub linner let salt water sit between the tub and the plastic tub with no way to hose it out, and they are heavy. Spray the tub linner if your going to take the lux on the beach
Hey ronny you should try go through Fraser island for the big test. But make sure you clean the car afterwards for no rust and also put a bulbar on it to Thanks
I honestly thought you'd get something different and interesting. Like you say Ronnie, all those other Utes are good vehicles, you could have broken the mold with this one. I guess I'm not surprised.
Stuart Karlson all I was reiterating is he went for the highest selling Ute on the market, with that comes the biggest possible following of new subscribers. Good on him smart
Congrats mate. This is the most sold 4x4 in Pakistan too. Love for lux is impeccable. I would love to see stock Lux against Jimny. Since i own an older version if it SJ410. And im making a budget 4x4 since covid left me unemployed.
Great choice. I recently bought the 2019 version and love it. Put on an Aeroklas canopy and tub liner, then took it on the beach in the stock tyres (deflated of course) and it didn't miss a beat, even in the soft stuff. Glad they put in Apple car play/Android Auto in the 2020, but it's not wireless unlike the competitors. The power in the 2019 whilst not quite as much as your 2020 is still pretty sweet, especially compared to my 20 year old Prado which it replaced. Enjoy. Looking forward to the mods update as I too am looking at how to improve what I currently have without breaking the bank account needlessly for general touring and some moderate off-road.
Hey, first of all congrats on a new truck. As for the content - this is the perfect chance to make a comparison video of stock vs modified, but with a difference. Why not find a reasonably difficult track, that would be almost on the limits of what a stock Hilux can manage, to use it (track) as a "controlled" one - drive the car stock. And then repeat the drive after each new modification just to see what mod actually makes what difference to performance?..
Same thing were said when the DPF force regeneration switch introduced back in mid 2018. Fast forward 2 years later, August 2020, only time will tell if the redesign of the DPF fifth sensor and software calibration would be sufficient enough to fully remedy the issue. Holding off from buying a Prado because of this.
apsilonblue, but the good thing is as well, they are absolutely water and dust proof on the inside and you could still fit a decent fridge setup, but for larger loads yeah your probably right
Hate to break it to you Ronny, but as of July 2020 the Rav4 is now the highest selling vehicle in Australia, followed by the Ranger! Yup, the world has gone mad.
Pretty much why I bought the colorado zr2 with the 2.8 duramax. Unfortunately its not a Toyota, but its a nice little rig and the fuel economy is awesome. It gets 25 mpgs without trying and the other gm/chevy mid sizers can easily get 30, so I'd say thats pretty good. A litte tune and/or delete could get me to 30 as well. Beats the v6 gasser by a long shot!
Would like to see Lift Kit 2-3inch ARB Sahara Bullbar ( have one on mine ) Winch 33 inch mud tyres UHF Tub rack Roof Rack Snorkel ( Stainless ) & Airbox PHAT BAR Rock Sliders Rear Bar and quarter chop Black out all the chrome Window tint and please.. put in a tub liner in it🥴
I just want to see you get out there and show us step by step on what you find you need to upgrade. I would love to see it stay stock and drive rings around heavly moded rigs!
This is great - I'm currently debating between getting an Amarok or a Hilux (and then getting Arctic Trucks to do their thing to whatever I end up with), looking forward to hearing what you think about the Hilux :) Good idea for the channel too - the 70-series cruisers are close to impossible to get in Europe while the Hilux'es are everywhere 👍
Amarok I believe does not have proper Low Range so I would be staying away from it for that reason alone. Not to mention the issues VW has had with emissions in Australia, How long it takes to get parts etc. I know a lady who owns a VW and when it was hit by another driver it took 4 months to order in parts.
Their traction controls are shocking too. I was watching an amarok in front of me when I was up in the snow. They were going the same speed as me and just sliding all over the place and chopping up the track heaps.
Looks like there are a few people who just repeat what they have heard. Manual amaroks DO HAVE a LOW RANGE with 51:1 crawl ratio. But yes, if you want an Auto, then the low range is missing
@@MicksGarageDarts If you are looking at doing real 4wd'ing look at the placement of things like air intakes and alternators as well as the systems they use.
