I bought a weird fish.... 

I ordered some fish in that i have been wanting to try for a long time. Recently discussed on my podcast (Aquariums Unfiltered) and that really motivated me to get them! My podcast: ru-vid.com

When you were playing with Jeff and saying you may not get the fish, honestly his facial reactions are everything, poor guy was giving you the side-eye like "bro really? I just bought 20 of these things for you" hahaha

I’ve actually heard that if you put a ball of tinfoil in the water they will go up and play around with it due to how it reacts to their electric signals. Know someone that tried it with their ghost knife and it loved the foil ball.

Been commenting for years about getting elephant nose and finally theyre here. Lol though a bit smaller, nonetheless will be great to follow their journey. Now... the other species I hoped you'd get are jellyfish!!!

I would definitely hook-up a listening device the guy was talking about to listen in on them especially to see how they react when they see you or feed them. It would be very interesting to figure out sounds to activity going on inside and outside the tank by various stimuli.

I had elephantnose fish in high school. I used to hand feed them and they were extremely friendly. Had to get rid of the tank before I left for college

I love elephant nose fish. I haven't had any in a long, long time though. Maybe it's time to get some again. I totally would have bought some of those little guys. They were super cute! I like watching them grow up. =^.^=

Joey, I'm SO GLAD YOU GOT ELEPHANT NOSE FISH!!!! They were one of the fish I suggested you get a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago when you asked what kind of fish you should get for the gallery. They are amazing. I've had what turned out to be a school of the exact same kind you got. Not only do they check for food through electrical signal, but sometimes you can see small blue flashes of electricity in the tank during the night or when it's dark from them. I had mine for almost 10 years, and gave them to a keeper friend of mine when I was moving out of Vancouver and for obvious reasons couldn't bring my fish. Beautiful fish, and you can actually train them in ways that you can't with most fish. Mine would eat out of my hands when they were adults. They love fresh food. Preferably live brine shrimp when they are small, black worms as well. I found they really didn't take too well to flake. They also will eat bloodworms easily at any size. They can be predatorial, so don't keep them with anything that will fit in their mouth. I learned how much they... to eat... love Cardinal Tetras in a huge way. Can't wait to see them in the Gallery H'mmmmmm, makes me think about getting some to put in my Central American Turtles Indoor Pond when I build it over the winter. You should get some African butterfly fish, (Pantodon buchholzi), and a large shoal of Congo tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus), to go with Double-Trunk Elephantnose (Campylomormyrus tamandua), that's the top, middle and bottom covered, all Congo species. For the aquarium you was setting up in the 'Pick the fish this aquariums gets!' Video.

You can also easily have more than one Black Ghost/Black Knife's - had 5 of them in a 250 liter, and even though they fought from time to time, they did well for a number of years.

Hi joey. I’m looking at building my first plywood tank. 8 feet long x 4 feet wide x 3 feet tall 718 gallons. As for glass would 15mm low iron aquarium glass be ok or would you go thicker, acrylic is around the same price so would thicker acrylic (maybe 1 inch) be better?

I had an elephant fish man must of been early 90s - mid 90s, it was alot bigger then those and was totally black with the two whitish bands near the tail. When the guy said you can hear the elephant fish from what I remember they send off an electrical signal to find food.

You should do a cold water tank for sturgeon, koi etc

These guys are pretty cool to watch and you can handfeed them pretty easy but my group I started with 8 and now I only have 4 because the largest of the group is somewhat aggressive and stressed the others, it’ll be interesting to see how they interact in a larger group though

Clown trigger was always a favorite of mine. Not as aggressive as many other triggers. When they go rogue they are dastardly brutal.

About time you get an elephant nose! I have been telling you that you should for years now. They are one of my favorites. Be careful with the putting more than one in a tank. The dude might be saying they can be together but I have had more then one in a tank and one always killed the other. Maybe if there is more than 2 it makes a difference but I never had luck with just 2.

I have one elephantnose (different species, mine is Peter's elephantnose) and it's one of the most demanding fish regardign care, so please be super careful with yours, they need a fine substrate to dig in and a bunch of shelters to hide, I keep mine in a West-African themed comunity with Congo tetras, kribensis, freshwater butterflyfish and Synodontis catfish but pay attention that they might be outcompeted at feeding times if they are too shy (also from my experience and those of my friends they only eat bloodworms and other frozen foods, very rarely dry ones). I've been following you for some time so I know you can pull it off, if they settle in fine and get used to the tank they actually make a pretty interesting fish and can develop a personality not much different from an oscar, coming up to you when they hear you and exploring everything new in the tank.

I need some help. I’ve been looking for a video about this but I can’t find anything about this topic. I have a 75 gallon tank with a marine land 350, a sponge filter (rated for 60 gal) with a 100 gallon air pump and yet fish waste always gets on the substrate. I’m not sure if the filters aren’t strong enough to pull it in or there isn’t enough current to constantly move them.

years ago i saw a video of a guy who had an electric eel in a aquarium. he had metal rods in the water that hooked up to some cheap computer speakers and you could hear the electricity it was putting off just like the guy was saying on the podcast.

Today I set up my 25L nano tank with blue velvet shrimp and galaxy rasbora. I love it. You’ve inspired me to always look for what I like in the tank and what I like in the fish

Those Lamprichthys tanganicanus are a really spectacular African fish, interesting they are an egg layer but are in the family live brearing fishes ,Poeciliidae ! You should consider trying to keep them as a top swimmer with the shell dwellers 🙂

I have a 125gallon with 5 elephant nose fish. One is even a double nose. I love them. I keep them with a school of glass cat fish. I have had them for 4 years

I love all your tanks, man. I had to get rid of most of my tanks since my wife put her foot down after my 50 gal blew a seal on the bottom of the tank and flooded my foyer (amazingly enough, the fish survived - a few albino cory cats and a pair of blood parrots). I converted my 29 gal tank into an herb garden with catnip and purple basil. The 45 gal corner tank is the only aquarium I have now.

Nothing to do with this video, but I ran a duct along side my heating system constantly at 30🦾 to my out side pond for 3-4 years now. I still feed the huge carp in the big pond, and they feed so gentle

You gotta get an electric eel and hook up speakers to the tank I’ve seen it done before and that is one hell of a show. I think it would be extremely cool if you kept an electric eel.

I've recently gotten a 200 gallon aquarium and I'm looking to get oscars, but I want to get them in a fairly small size and grow them out myself. but I'm wondering if the 200 would be too large for them when they are still small, 6-8cm?

The elephant nose... a highly evolved intelligent fish. I can't believe petsmart sold me one when I was 8 years and I knew nothing about fish and just bought it along with goldfish. He jumped out a few days later. I'm good at it now and wish I could find one now.

I hope you gave the wholesalers / importers a heads up that there is about to be a run elephant fish.

They are notorious jumpers. Keep the lids shut as best as possible.

what Joey has failed to mention is he in the process of converting his entire gallery into breeding convict cichlids. Already the 2000 gallon is being prepared. Soon Joey will have an army of convicts , the elephant noses the leaders.

Bro ... i was Dying seeing Jeffs face almost cringe in guilt and worry you didnt like them when you were talking about them . Even though we all knew all along you were going to get them , and everything you were saying about being small and raising them is exactly what most of us in the hobby love to do . Excited to see how these do , i really would like to find a Mormyrid Dolphin ,but might end up with something more like this if i cant find them

Love my elephant nose fish but they’re such a pain when it comes to feeding them in a community tank. End up having to separate them in the tank when it comes to feeding.

I have a elephant nose fish. He is hilarious and goes absolutely ballistic for food. He will push himself between my fingers to eat bloodworms. He is also stupid and always swims into my net when I try to catch other fish. Super cool fish and loves to chase my huge fat clown loaches. He is like 6 years old or something, super cool.

We’ve gotten a couple of these in at work before, they’re so funny 😂

I LOVED my elephant nose fish. I had it trained and it ate from my hand and like to play with my fingers. BUT The thing decided to jump out of my tank when the power went out during a hurricane.

I only have saltwater tanks but you're seriously making me consider looking into a freshwater setup in the next year.

I found an adult elephant nose over a decade ago. Loved it, bought it, found out it emitted an electric charge for self defense. I came home one day on lunch break and was looking at my tank. I couldn't find it. I'm thinking what the heck? Then, I see it. The nose of the fish. It was sticking out of my 8 inch koi fish's mouth. I paid 18 USD for this fish. This remains the most expensive fish I've ever purchased...to feed...to another fish...
