Nice Rig, I just got rid of my Ram 2500 Mega cab for a Tundra. Here's some advice, carry some tools and get familiar with working on them. They're great trucks when they're running, but can be a PITA, and everything Diesel is twice as expensive. It's a million mile motor with 20k mile parts. Definitely get to know the Edge, it is a great tool for trouble shooting problems that can pop up. Forget Turbo boost and all that crap, get to know your Exhaust Gas Temps, Fuel Rail pressure ( if it drops or throws a code, it could be anything from a clogged line or filter, to pump), Transmission temps and what the thresholds are so you know when to stop and not damage it, and EGR (delete it). Enjoy it, that's an awesome setup.
Expedition Overland and Trail Recon also went with a RAM....I think I need to look more into buying a diesel. I sold my Tundra and I am definitely buying a full size truck for family camping. Great video bro.
I know im randomly asking but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me
@Kylen Ulises I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Dodges give their owners the opportunity to meet people. You'll know every dodge mechanic by their first name. I know I had one and met a lot of mechanics, so fragile.
That's funny... I've owned 6 of them and their problems are no different than any other manufacturers. I was running Fords for years until I felt the same way about meeting all the mechanics and switched to Dodge/Ram.
I had two. Currently still have one. Neither one had ever seen a mechanic in my time of ownership. The transmission went out in the first one. Rebuilt it myself in the garage for just under $1k using an upgraded rebuild kit that allowed me to get more clutches in there. Other than that I have had zero problems.
A buddy just bought his first diesel, A gorgeous duramax chevy 2500. I was super jealous however we all told him why did you buy a diesel? He said he just needed /wanted one. well three months into owning one of the BEST most reliable chevy durmax motors that exists with under 100k on it..., he just had to have it flat bedded to a diesel shop near us and he is now looking at a 12000 dollar Repair bill, Bad injector led into a bad cylinder, so now his 28,000 dollar beauty duramax is costing him BADDDDly.. So do you need a diesel ill say it again? Ive seen it happen to several friends / BADDNEWS. ...
Hahaha welcome to the large side good sir..hail the trailwales hahaha everyone told me the same when I bought my power wagon that it was to big but I couldn't be happier with my capabilities
A Chrysler? Whilst I’m disappointed you sold the 4Runner, I’ll keep watching the channel, so you can keep us entertained with all the repairs. Plenty of content there : )
I miss your 4Runner already. I was interested in seeing Toyota. Not some other brand especially Fiat-Chrysler. Have fun with that get used to warranty work at the dealer. I’ll see you later.
It’s a Dodge...😂. It’s nice and powerful till you find yourself taking it into shops for repairs more often than anything. But, I guess good for you guy. Have fun with it.
Jason get an RV scissor jack. They can lift 5000 lbs and go up 24" and super light compared to a farm jack. Mine throws my quad cab F150 up in the air like it's nothing. Also the nut on the end of it is a 3/4" nut so I take my impact and zip it's up. They are super cheap too, like $75 for a pair of them.
invest in rock sliders, you'll hate yourself if damage is done. Beautiful truck best of luck!!!! Experiment using a bottle jack with an extension to lift the tire up, But going to need an extra hand.
I love it! Ram/Cummins the most reliable engine out there. Good choice!!! Can’t wait to see more of this rig out there on the trails, there are so many Toyota channels out there this is a breath of fresh air for us full size truck guys that like overland/camping. Keep up the good work sir!!
Hey check out the Ram Procal from AEV. It will allow you to adjust for tire pressure and speedometer changes and such for the tire. Congrats on the new Prospector!
I hope there are less "I don't know if I should try this relatively mild obstacle?" moments with this vehicle. It's going to look awfully silly turning around in this thing at every challenging spot. Technical quality and beauty of this channel is awesome. Track record of freaking out over minor things on the trail, not so awesome.
P.S. watch the SEMA Allison video on YT. Dodge's transmissions are some of the worst rated. But the Allison swap (mostly Dodge owners; again confirmation) fixes all of that. Something to think about in the long term. Short term = drive it till you break it.
Congrats on your New Truck!!! I’m proud you got the vehicle you had dreamed of, enjoy it because you earned it!!!! Looking forward to new trip and seeing it perform!!!!
First thing you got to do is put the bullet antenna and get rid of that whip lasher .... and put some cool ham gear, Yaesu FTM 400DR or Icom ID5100 or BOTH!!!! You gotta be COM ready bratha ...
Not sure if his truck has it, but the Power Wagon has an electric swaybar disconnect with front and rear lockers, I doubt he'll have traction issues anyway with the solid front axle.
Hope you enjoy it, It's been for sale for a while for reason, but then again to each their OWN..as long as I don't have to OWN it. Staying tuned for the regret video to come.
Vehicles are only as reliable as the owner treats them... Your now driving a 500k mile rig. Yes the trans might go out at 220 and the turbo at 185 but for what your doing Ram is the best platform!! Even the Aussies are buying the Ram over the Toyota 200.. way more capable. When you want to sell it I will be the first to make you a offer!!
I finally found your video where you replaced the 4runner. I am a T4R fan but I can see why you got diesel and full size. Awesome looking truck and cool that you jumped the built process. You don't need to repeat that. Sorry that your hand hurts. How is that going? Did you figure out how to change out a tire on your own? Nice videos. I always enjoy your music.
Congrats on the new truck. I am not sure if you are still in Florida, but I am out of Jacksonville and have a triple locked FZJ80. Hopefully I can catch you on the trail someday.
Haha I figured you might get one, it’s a great looking rig, nice👊🏽. After seeing your sema video on the AVE prospector I got excited to start saving for a pickup, I’d really like to have a rig for winter/lots of snow and going out to the Black Hills, I live in South Dakota east river where it gets super cold in winter and have no place to plug in a block heater so might have to opt out for a Diesel but the AEV prospector regular or diesel would be a great future vehicle unless Toyota makes the decision to start selling the FJ Cruiser in the US again Then I might have to go that route. Looking forward to seeing future videos on the new rig, thanks for making great videos. Take care.
Super surprised! Thought you where getting a Gladiator! I have a friend who has 275,000 MILES on his 2500 he drives everyday to work and off roads on the weekends. Everyone talks trash about dodge but I know 4 guys who have over 250,000 miles on their RAMS if taking care of, there really shouldn't be any problems. SUPER COOL TRUCK! CAN'T WAIT TILL YOU POST NEW OFF ROAD FOOTAGE!
The Tacoma and Tundra have been built in Texas for quitea few years. My wife's Ram 2500 is a Mexican built truck. The Cummins is such a beast motor. Need a Pedal Commander to tone it down on icy roads!!! The Detroit TruTrac helps. 3.73 gears will help. 4.10's with 35's. And 4.56 with 37's. Should be a guide for good highway and overland driving. AEV has some good equipment. I run a Ram 1500 Ecodiesel. And while I already have the Bilstein 5100 shocks set at a 3" lift. And have readylift Uppercontrol arms. The AEV skid plate, lower control arm relocation, and differential relocation seems to be a well thought out design. My wife's truck will see more mods. But for now only has Eibach shocks, and carbon-metalic brake pads. As hardware upgrades. Running full synthetic 5w40 motor oil. With a K&N air filter, gets 21-25 mpg, at 75-60 mph. Tires are 275/70-18 General Grabbers on stock rims. Look forward to 35's and the 3.73 gears.
I bought a 2018 Tundra 4X4, TRD with the 5.7 and 4:10 rear 13 months ago...., great truck but struggled to pull my 24' boat with twins / 7,800 lbs or so.. Loved the truck but like you said, Toyota needs a diesel offering preferably 3/4 Ton.. (they are missing the boat) , I took a big hit and traded it in on a 2017 Ram 2500 4X4 with the Cummins with 42k miles... could not be happier tows my boat like it's not even there while getting 13 MPG the Tundra was getting 7... it gets 19 mpg empty... crazy, You will Love the Ram, especially that one... what a set up... awesome rig you got there... looking forward to you excursions... !!
Wow, prepandemic. Not sure if it’s the vehicle or just generally blissful ignorance of the future. Just kidding.... I’m deciding on front and rear bumpers for my ‘18 3500. Leaning towards AEV front and Exp1 on the rear with the tire carrier. So far only have a HD Diamondback bed cover and MT 34 ATZ P3 until the warranty expires. Not planning suspension upgrade until necessary.
Awesome! Hey, that edge evolution chip is incredible!! I deleted my 2015 f350 and installed the edge evo chip at 1,500 miles and i have just over 80k on it now with zero problems..It's improved gas mileage and of course the HP's! Of course a ton of people and forums say you shouldn't delete and chip a diesel with that low of miles but I've been just fine with mine. Also!!! Toyota Tundra doesn't have a front OR a rear locking diff.....Yeah, you might not be able to fit on smaller trails but having locking diffs and front straight axle you'll be able to climbing steeper trails, flexing higher, having way more low end torque than a tundra and also doing all of this with zero wheel lifts!
Had a 2002 Dodge Ram for 8 years. Nothing but regular oil changes, new tires, and new brakes, except an AC condenser fan needed replacing at one point. Other than that, it was incredibly reliable. Bought a 2019 Ram without hesitation just a month ago. Luckily, this one was already up-to-date with the recalls (typical of every new generation of vehicle, even Toyotas!).
Your truck will be fine. Understand and learn how your DPF and DEF systems work (if not deleted). The 68RFE will be fine, run"hotter" tunes without the expectation that stuff will break more often. (Does not include a delete with stock tune). Maintain your vehicle on a severe duty cycle, check your fluids (axles , tcase included) often and expect wheel bearings on the front axle to go every 30k if stock. Most of these comments are "captain obvious" statements, but I haven't seen much maintenance content in your previous videos as that is not what your channel is about. Be careful with that tunner, understand what if any mods were done to the transmission. Most of that stuff flys in the face of having a reliable truck that will get you home. In the end you will enjoy the power of your ram and expect a natural power increase from the Cummins as it wears in around 15-20k miles. Last thing. The fuel mileage indicators (lie-o-meter) is about 2mpg high when unloaded and .5mpg high when heavily loaded. My 14' and 18' exhibit this "feature". Hand calculate your fuel mileage if you want accurate results.
Jason, Congrats and super stoked about your new truck!! It is night and day from the 4 Runner, but tons of power and range with that diesel! What does your daughter think of it? I just got a 2020 Tacoma in quick sand like Mike LLOD’s. It has a power driver’s seat OMG right?! The tuning/gear hunting issue seems to be gone. But what is #2 complaint from owner’s? Lack of power or really gearing, which makes them dogs if u add bigger heavier tires. This is why I almost went with the JL Wrangler or Gladiator, of which I took both for a test drive. Plus, they have grab handles at all 4 doors and Taco only has one at Front passenger’s. This is crappy if u want to lift a Tacoma! Anyways, I am still happy with my new truck and I hope you are as well. Been a fan of your channel and can’t wait to watch some of your future content in the Prospector! See? that was a was all positive feed back. Stay Human and swell as well Brutha!
Very nice truck! Did it not come with an AEV ProCal? I’ve got my TPMS set down to 35 with mine and I wish I could set it at like, 20psi. Gotta get rid of those little baby shocks and get some 2.5” or 3” Kings. There’s a lot of weight moving up and down with those 40s. Check out www.powerwagonsinmoab.com
bad ass truck Jason congrats. great purchase. you just bought the only truck i am considering replacing my Tundra with. it has so many features just Tundras dont have. Have fun thats what matters
It's gonna get harder and harder to justify fossil fuel powered off-roaders with each coming year. Cybertruck is coming out of the gate with 500 miles of range, 16 inches of clearance, built-in solar panels and supercar performance. Power to all 4 wheels as needed, no need for diff lockers. Direct engine-computer interface for insane traction control. Smooth underbelly, nothing to catch on rocks. Integrated camper forthcoming, enough battery juice to power your accessories for weeks. To put that into perspective, 500 miles is San Diego to San Francisco. Not even a Prius can do that in one tank. And this is a 3/4 ton truck that can do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. For the same price as a Prospector. That's the future of off-roading.
Congrats...Is it possible to keep some sort of running cost comparison on that beast? When I went from a RangeRover to my FJ Cruiser... my costs are averaging out at about 10% of what the RR was in maintenance and upkeep terms. Fuel costs MPG... is maybe 15% better for me in the FJ too. Just curious as I always have lusted after the AEV type build.. and Diesel is well.. just badass.
Congrats on the new ride! I had a 2004 4Runner V8 then a 2014 4Runner and the 2014 didn't feel as good. Traded that in for a 2016 1500 Laramie and have had ZERO problems. Enjoy! I too was apprehensive going Ram, but so far no regrets.
I have a 2006 dodge power wagon. The only problem I had is I left the lights on and the computer put it into theft mode. Other than that I’ve had the truck for 12 years oil changes and battery and regular maintenance of course ball joints but that is regular maintenance, no different than Toyota
Bro.....good looking truck. The 4Runner had a good run.....looking forward to watching the new adventures in this beast. It has good bones.....lots of potential. Couple questions: Bed tray maybe? It would seem with the height that you would have to pole vault to get in the bed. Extended Range tank? I agree that the rims are a bit much. I am a Method fan. Maybe they could sponsor some. Does it have lockers? Did they re gear for the massive tires? I think it is a perfect candidate for a wrap to really make it yours. I think a cool video would be a walk around in camp with everything set up. Maybe a pro/con video on truck vs SUV w/trailer.
You mentioned that there are sliders that work with the amp steps. Could you give is some more info on this. I have been looking far and wide for a setup that will.work with amp steps.
Nice rig and congrats. Personally, I liked the Runner better. I mean, that new rig is "stinkin'" sick AF. But -- and this is just me -- compared to the T4R the Ram lacks... ummm.... subtlety. Yeah that's a good word for it.
It's like when you see that super hot chick with a rich dork, you know she'll never have it given to her the way she wants. And wait until he can't open those rear latches on that bumper. They SUCK and the pin drops to prevent the arms from going too far don't work unless you set them just right. Also, the Park Assist will NEVER work and he'll need it while cruising the malls and trying to park.
Well I don't know guys Iran Chevy's sense 81 and the last three were terrible. I've had died just now for the last three years and had zero repeat zero problems with them. So I'm sorry guys if you think your Chevrolets of your Ford's are better than dodges. Most guys I know that are pulling serious loads are pulling them with Dodges and sometimes Fords. The Chevrolet 1 ton isn't even a serious one ton vehicle.
Can’t wait to see your adventures in your new ride, but you need to put your own touches on it like a wrap. But anyways sweet ride Jason and enjoy the open roads, P.S. anyone who says it’s to big are more than likely rock-crawlers and that was never really your thing. I started watching your channel back when you got the 4Runner and camping with your kids not because your tearing up your expensive vehicle on some trail like the Rubicon Trail. This truck just gives you more room and comforts with your family.
Good move Jason!!! You will not be disappointed!! Driving my PXL home from Oklahoma now and the guys at Exploration Outfitters. They installed a PCOR Tray for me and it is Soooooo Bad ass!!! Hope to see you out on the trail!!
I'm sure someone else already said it, but tire pressure on HD trucks is higher than most people would expect. At stock tire sizes 2500 and 3500 RAM trucks with load range E tires the rated tire pressure is 70psi for the trucks rated load. Load range D tires are rated at 65 psi. I know the weight rating per load range changes with tire size, but I don't know the specifics. As you said you will have to look into it further. As you already know too low psi will destroy tires, a little low will affect tread wear and handling, too high for the carried load will affect tire wear, comfort and traction. The trick is to find the just right pressure. I installed load range D tires in the stock tire size on my Tundra. Stock they come with load range C. But the camper trailer we have is near the upper limit for payload and tow capacity. It was within the capacity of the old load range C tires, but I think I slightly overheated the tires because they started to show premature dry rot. Not enough over heating cause something catastrophic, but enough to shorten the tire life. I came to the conclusion that the load range C just didn't have a high enough rated pressure and the tire sidewalls flexed a little too much because of it. With the load range D tires I found I didn't need the full 65 psi, because the truck didn't have the payload for it, causing premature tire wear even when fully loaded. 50-55 psi seemed to be about right when towing the camper. And when unloaded the tire pressure on the drivers door frame is right even though the tires are rated higher. I kinda came to the conclusion that the air pressure carries the weight rating and tires are just built so that they can contain the air pressure needed for the weight rating. Or maybe I'm and idiot and completely wrong about it.
Hope you and your family have happy holidays and you all enjoy your new truck, looks great. You know the old saying about opinions, well it's double for those that try to express them as the "truth". Disregard the negative nellies, it's the first thing I learned when I started owning Land Rovers.
Nice rig Jason... I am sure you will like it. I have a Jeep Wrangler but I also have a full size Chevy 4 wd truck. Its not HD or diesel (which I wish it were ) but I dont thinkI could give up my full sized truck for a Tacoma or Colorado or Gladiator.
Nice move. You couldn't put 40 inch tires on a Toyota with that much weight on it and pull your house around. Way better move than Toyota underpowered and way overrated. Oh and looking into a full delete on the exhaust admissions you'll raise your fuel mileage 5 to 6 miles per gallon and the truck will have way more power.
