Watched quite a few x5 videos and most experts (secondhand dealers and mechanics) agree the e39 and e53 being the best design and engineering combination bmw produced. As an owner of both and having had e30s and 24s from the past these cars deliver in spades! I bought a petrol e53 to avoid the congestion charges and with current prices there's not much difference in running costs. Water in the boot has messed the radio and air suspension so that's and head's up for potential buyers. Thanks for your down to earth video.
I’ve got a 2006 left hand drive X5 “executive edition” with the 3.0L petrol. 91k miles on car. Overall, Solid car. Mine had a pioneer upgrade audio head unit with a custom JL audio amp and speaker setup. Not perfect condition but very good. Some issues with condensation on intake as it does not see highway much. Required a new engine at 75k after condensation froze over and detonated engine. Installed a catch can setup which helps, more so in winter months. Mine’s fully loaded with pano roof. My son drives it now but I’ll take it back when he goes to college.
I have the exact le man blue same spec...19800miles on the clock and its still going strong. A few issues with the windows and door handles but for no service in the last 6 years I think its done really well. Its every comfortable I agree. I have had a few bmw cars 3 series and 5 series and this is the best so far. The old 5 series comes close. Once ur in a 4x4 its hard to compare to the saloons.
I bought a lemans blue BMW X5 E53 3.0d 2 days ago. The car has covered 98,000 miles. The engine is brilliant and the condition of the car is amazing! My one is chip tuned and now it has 300 plus horse power. I would have to say that lemans blue X5 3.0d in general are rare and that overall there are fantastic cars. You really do feel up high and a level above others when your driving! Nice video by the way, keep up the good work!!!
@@salam7376 hi, I bought it for £6000 and it was chip tuned before I bought it. Don't listen to what people say, if you chip tune it and you look after it it will be fine. I still own the car and it's working perfectly the engine is amazing no problem what so ever. The tune costed £350 BTW. Thx.
I have a 2001 X5 4.4 175,000.00 miles , like new condition. I still dust a lot of new cars off the line . I do all the work on the X5 myself. A used BMW is not for everyone. Either you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for any repair to the Stealer and Independent Shops or learn to maintain it yourself. I driven my X5 from Miami to LA and Vegas 5 times in the past ten years without any problems. The X5 on the video looks worst than it is
Very nice spec version! 165K miles? I drove an e39 with the same dieselengine and sold it with 315k miles on the clock. Ran like a dream rain or shine when I sold it to make room for my current silver E53 with a sports package.
I wish more than anything that we got the diesel in the US..unfortunately the 3.0 M54 is the best engine that comes in the US cars. I have one in my Z4 and it's been nothing but reliable, so I'm hoping the same thing comes out of my next purchase, which will be an E53...
Well I've been studying about the e53 for past two weeks forums & loads of vids I'm definitely getting one and was going to get 3.0i but after watching this & deans video I'm going to get the diesel
@@rob-ui9xt got one Monday 06 96k on it full service history sport edicion in le, man's blue it ticks so many boxes when it come to a car that is totally multi purpose plus it looks so good next to the e39
I have an 2010 E70 40d with the same spec bar the panoramic roof. Currently 112k on the clock. As you say, the engine is rock solid. However there's little electrical issues popping up now. For example in really hot weather the reverse camera is fuzzy, the Diversity aerial plays up the central locking and sat nav can freeze. Now we've hit winter my power boot sometimes doesn't open or shut all the way. 30% of the time the engine has to be on to remotely open and close the tailgate. A well maintained M57 should go to 200K miles without blinking. But car electrical issues will get in the way.
Wash watching this and thought no way… I recognise that recreational ground 😵 I only live five minutes away, looking at an E53 myself but worried about reliability!
Just to let you know, the BMW X5 E53 3.0d from early 2004 to late 2006 has 218BHP and from 2000 to 2003, the 3.0d had 184BHP. Just saying because you said that it has 230BHP. The 3.0 petrol had 230BHP.
i am just about to buy this car .. i just love it ... my father has this one as new in 2005 and he made 270000miles with no issue ... do you think 306D2 is good engine that can last?
I’m no expert but 165,000 miles in 15 years means it’s been absolutely hammered! Surprised it’s not falling apart. I only did 60,000 miles in 10 years with my car.
I have owned a 2006 BMW X5 e53 for 8 years now at 150k miles and I can tell you that it is something special. You realise how good these are when compared to newer family style suvs. This is a proper 4x4 which is excellent on the road and doesn’t feel like a tractor. I have only needed to change wear and tear parts. I’m consistently getting 29-30mpg - for a vehicle with 3 litre engine weighing over 2 tonnes is impressive. If looked after I’m sure mine will do another 150k. As said, there is a lot of potential in this M57 engine. Mine has a TDI tuning chip which on the highest setting gives 275hp and 500nm of torque! I’ve recently bought a 2017 Range rover sport but I’ve kept the X5 for running errands as it is honestly that good.
I've got one. I bought mine with 159000 miles on. Hope the person who shot this video will message me. I can help with issues that I know all about. Make sure you get gear box service every 60000 miles. Along with transfer box at the same time. Make sure you don't but the wrong size there's..it happened to me. But problem sorted
how much did u pay for it ? I bought a 172k for 2 grand .. some service history but drives solid .. only thing i wasn't happy about was the mpg .. it shows on 18.2mpg on the display :(
@Mr Blobby! 100subs for being a Twat wt do u think could be wrong ? the guy I bought from said .. its because he didn't use the car much .. he said if I reset it , I should get avg 30mpg
@Mr Blobby! 100subs for being a Twat wow .. good on you mate. I just read a few forums and seen few ppl complaining about low mpg on e53's , if I get atleast 30mpg I be happy
Turn on bluetooth on your cell. On the car, open the "discover phone' or similar option, and they'll 'find' each other. Pretty convenient hands free calling.
South West Automotive yes I still have mine the steering column then the transmission broke then the shocks all at once I had to pay $5,000 dollars it’s like €6,000 euros
