Good to see you back. I think thats a QWXB engine same as I have in my Galaxy. You need to change the flywheel with the clutch but It would be good to see a real life review of a SMF conversion.
Nice to see you back m8..👍 You're responsible for me having a go at my 1st Mini cooper r50 head..We actually purchased them at the same time.Same year same colour.. Couldn't believe when you was gonna be doing the same job. It was like havin you there with me 🤣🤣. Since then it's been complete brake replacement all round,Driveshafts,balljoints clutch then gearbox replacement. And no doubt the story will continue..Thanks again for giving me the confidence..
The red dust under bonnet is iron dust... we had it with a similar engined smax- it’s dmf failed eventually and it’s bay was just like this... As said Alan Howatt has loads on his channel

Good cars James. There is a titanium x sport. I had one had the 2.2 engine. 172bhp. Very comfy and built better than the mk3, more solid I thought. Look forward to next videos on this
these cars also have a dual mass flywheel that should be changed with the clutch, doesnt typically last much longer than the clutch and certainly not as long as a standard flywheel.
These cars dont suffer with DMF issues like the mk3. I think due to the power delivery being much smoother and more linear. Mine has 230k on its original clutch and DMF.
We had a 2.2tdci diesel titanium X sport auto estate in panther black for a while 4 years ago. Proper big old load lugger, with a turn of speed should you need it, heated and cooled seats were dead comfy, riding on 19" ' snowflake?' alloys.
Loved my TXS as well. Oh well onto my Mk5 now, my 3rd Mondeo! The TXS had a 2.2 engine, red stitching on the seats, steering wheel, gearstick gator, piano black and fake carbon fibre dash inserts and then on the outside a bodykit. However for the most part its the same as what James has just bought and the 2.0l engine is more common so easier to get parts for.
Fuck this was my car before I got my fiesta ST. Mine was a 2007 1.8 tdi zetec. The amount of problems I had was fucking disgusting. £1200 in 2 weeks it cost me to fix a list of problems, including the clutch, flywheel, brakes, and something to do with the gear stick. Never never again. I also got done because I bought it for £1000 in 2018 and got rid in 2020. My headlight done the same thing as well. Must be a running fault with this generation mondeo
Look forward to it. You don't have to remove the subframe on these for a clutch, you can just remove the bolts on offside and subframe will lower enough to sit the box on it. Alan Howatt on here does a lot on these.
The Tit X Is highest trim but doesnt mean it has all bells and whisles (atleast in europe). I got myself a Tit X after long time looking for daily. A lot of stuff you needed to pay extra for. (Memory seats, chilled seats, adaptive cruise control etc). Your key doesnt need to go in cupholder you can keep it in your pocket. Little tip You can get your converse updated with modified version of software so it shows more info about car (battery voltage, better menus, visual parking sensors) well worth the update. Clutch is piece of cake job if youre not counting that heavy subframe or trans.. :D The engine is PSA peugeot engine very reliable one :) Those headlight are really nice Adaptive halogen headlights. In my experience if you put good LEDs theyre awesome. Love mine mondeo, such a comfy daily :)
They also did a titanium x Sport that came with red stitching on the seats, alloy pedals a body kit and 19”wheels, windows are blue tinted on the early ones! There is also a version of the dashboard with a big sat nav screen
Key doesn't have to be in the cup holder to start it. If you ever have a hard to getting key to connect to the car though you can pop the cap off where a normal ignition would be and put it in there beside the transponder

Lovely cars the mk4s especially high specification ones like yours! The face-lift titanium x sports versions are beautiful 😍 especially in red! For me they have aged incredibly well. Much better than the vauxhall insignia!

its a bluetooth stereo. most of the stereos for the MK4 mondeos usually break down after a couple of years or if the battery is compleatly discarged and bluetooth module above the glovebox is also giving in after a while, so you will loose connection and stuff. i just replaced mine for a android unit with Bluetooth, Navigation, DAB+, FM etc that works with the SWC and converse. its worth it.

Nice little buy, looking forward to watching the series! Clutch is a piece of piss on these tbh, everyone always makes a big fuss about them because they have DMFs and the subframe needs to come out etc, but they're no big deal really, especially not on the diesels. Is it a keeper or a flip?
And after driving my Mk3 for the past 10 years, I bought my first Mk4 just a few days before this was uploaded after browsing the Marketplace too. Mines a 61 plate econetic and I absolutely love it.
The stronger Diesel in the Prefacelift MK4 is a 2.2L TDCI with 175hp the Petrol version is a 2.5L 5 cylinder with 220hp from the focus ST The facelift has also a 2.2L TDCI but 200hp and the petrol version is 2L EcoBoost with 240HP
Engine is a D4204T engine. Peugeot. Can be found in Volvo's, Peugeot,Renaults. Clutch and dual mass do fail around 140,000 but Luk do a kit for £350. Easy job to change.
Finally I was thinking of driving to Norwich to see if you were OK 🤣 good to see you back James, I think you should get rid of the other two then maybe the endless questions about welding might stop

Nice, your enjoy the MK4 Mondeo. Had mine 15years good car. Yeah the highest spec would of been the Titianium X Sport with engine range from 1.8tdci, 2.0tdci 140, 2.0tdci 163, 2.3 auto petrol, 2.5 5 cylinder from Volvo and a 2.2tdci with 175bhp. The Titianium X was just below that without the sport's body kit or lowered ride. The engine in your one looks the same as mine so it's a 2.0tdci with 140bhp and the engine code I think is QXBA if I remember correctly. Sometimes referred to as the DW10 BTED 2.0tdci. 👍
I have the brochures for 2007 & 2008 MK4 Mondeo (+ 2010 MK4.5 Facelift) So, Colour is "Thunder", Leather & Alcantara seats & Blue tinted windows were standard on Titanium X. Those Heated rear seats were an option as was Bluetooth in 2007 (became standard across the range in 2008). Titanium X was top of the range in 2007. Titanium X Sport did not appear until 2008. Although the body kit and 18" wheels were available as an option, so you could make any Mk4 look like a Titanium X Sport even in 2007! As they did on Casino Royale! As already mentioned engine is Ford/PSA and effectively replaced the Ford "Puma" diesel engine used in the Mk3 Mondeo.
Freaking Titanium trim Mondeo for that price is mental. One of the first cars I know of with adaptive cruise. Better specced out than a lot of MK7 Golfs!

Hi James. Firstly good to see you back. I was hoping that maybe you will one day get MK4 MONDEO, although I personally would love to have MK3 ST just like yours, but the road tax for them ST's, it's a F****** robbery! Anyway, I have MK4 MONDEO TITANIUM X just like yours, in exactly the same colour and engine with 140HP. I have done a few bits on it throughout last two years of owning it. Firstly that boot - it's a very common problem. Rain is collecting around the glass and every time you open a boot, rain is dripping down inside the car and on the plastic trims for parcel shelf and down to underneath the back seats. It's a lot of damp and moisture collecting there - I know. Few days ago I had discovered that noise reduction sponge underneath of the back seats was absolutely soaked through. I was forced to spend few days with a heater fan and hair dryer inside my car, trying to dry it out 🤯. It's a very annoying problem - it's makes a bad smell inside a car not to mention that condensation on the back windows... I will try to fit some sort of a seal inside the boot to stop the rain from getting underneath the back seats. My other plan is to fill up the gap between back glass, so the rain wouldn't had a chance to collect on top and bottom of the glass?! Front headlights full of condensation - that is another big problem with those MK4 MONDEOS. Not only the Projector style ones, but mostly... I have tried to use an adhesive sealant but it didn't work ( driver side ). I have replaced those rubber tubes at the back of a headlights unit, which should help air circulation inside a housing, it didn't work. I tried to block those rubber tubes to block the air flow - it only made it worse. I have fitted a H7 LED bulbs, with a little fan at the back of each of them, hoping that those little fans would take the heat from LEDS and distribute it around inside of the headlight unit and get rid of condensation - it didn't work. Although, the road ahead, is a lot better illuminated. A lot better! Passenger side went a bit better, maybe because I have used a special sealant for gutters repair, but it takes a long time for a sealant to cure. This seems to work better. Front fog lights suffer similar issue - condensation. They are getting a bit milky, but it is easy fix. Just thin microfiber cloth and window cleaner and some cotton buds sticks to get in to narrow spaces - definitely a bit fiddly. The biggest problem - and it's a real bastard of a job - is REAR TRAILING ARM BUSHES!!!!🤯🤯🤯 It's EXPENSIVE! SPECIAL TOOLS ARE NEEDED! Wheels are losing their tracking and tyres are being destroyed very, very very quickly! I'm still waiting to have mine done - lack of funds 😭. I can't wait to see you replacing wing mirrors. I have purchased a led replacement panels for " puddle lights ", but I don't know how to replace them, without damaging a cables harness. It looks like connectors are protected with some sort of heat shrink type of sleeves and the only way to disassemble them would be by cutting through them heat shrink...? Can you get your broken one a part so we could see what is hiding inside them? Please?! Your model, just like mine comes with Bluetooth connectivity which on my car I only discovered by accident. How much did you have to pay for new/spare headlight unit and where did you get it from? Do you have a access to ForScan maybe? Bastards at Ford have deactivated a very important function for which you as a owner would have to pay for get it back on! I'm talking about central locking not being activated, once a car had went over 20mph! Just imagine, you have stopped at traffic lights, with your belongings at the back seats or even on a front passenger seat and your car Central locking is not active! Someone can see your staff through a window and know about it or maybe just going to try open the doors - puff - all of your precious belongings are gone! It's very possible! You have to remember to lock your car every time before you drive anywhere. I need to have this function active again ! There is a lot of good and educational videos on RU-vid and I can definitely recommend checking out a few channels - Allan Howatt, Bodgit & leggit, Nigel Ealand, I'm getting fond of my Mondeo with every successful repair that I can get done by myself. And fuel consumption is very good compering to my previous 2.1 V6X-type, but not as comfortable unfortunately. Good luck, James and keep making those videos m8 !
The diesels fitted in the mk4 mondeo are all PSA & Ford Codeveloped engines bar the 1.8tdci. The 2 DW engines are the DW10 which is the 2.0tdci and DW12 which is the 2.2tdci. Where as the mk3 mondeo is ZSD-420 for the 2.0 tdci and ZSD-422 for the 2.2tdci which were Ford's own built diesels. With the DW engines after the 10 or 12 there will be a space and a few letters and numbers that follow like DW10 BTED4. This signifies the output of the engine or the revision.
For these cars the clutch was quite known to fail after 100~120K for caravan-towers. Dual mass flywheel is also known to have a expiry date. So basically you need to order the full-package...
Best car in its class. I think Alan Howatt has said the dual Mass Flywheel lasts aprox 2 clutches on the mk4...and that the Original clutches last 140 to 160k so hopefully this is the original clutch. You can check the DMF for play when the clutch is removed anyway. Engines are bombproof with basic servicing.
A great set of videos. Not condescending but lots of information. My Mk4 2009 is in for a DMF and Clutch replacement . £950 but seeing the work you did seems reasonable. I wondered whether it was worth it but at 105 K miles thought it had at least a couple of years left.
Alan howatt is well worth watching. Runs a fleet of mondeo 2.0 tdci taxis in huntingdon. Change dmf as well as clutch. My old mk4 I ran from 90k to 170k in just over 2 years...was still on its original clutch. Even on its original front discs at 150k miles. Very very reliable. The mk5 mondeo I brought to replace makes the mk4 look like a mini. Titanium x sport is highest spec. My mother who is 70 still has hers and loves it.
Looking forward to this one. I owned a 57 plate one too, same colour but 1.8 Zetec model. Great car, part exed it at 165k. Had DMF go at 90k but that was only major issue.
You cannot go wrong with a Ford - I moved from a MK3 Focus Zetec S to an Audi A3 S line. I've had nothing but issues from the Audi, even though low mileage, and purchased from main dealer - it just isn't great at all. Next car will be a Ford. Anyways, can't wait to watch this series James, its been a while mate!
Can sense the de-bonded rear trailing arm bushes from here 😂, like others have said the DMF will most likely want replacing also. Rear main seals leak for fun on them 2.0 lumps so wouldn’t be a bad idea to get one of them also. The model above this (Titanium X Sport) was available with the 2.2 diesel (like you get in a Freelander 2, etc) and a 2.5 petrol 5 cylinder turbo (same as the Mk2 focus ST), later models came instead with the 2.0 ecoboost from the Mk3 Focus ST. Anyway looking forward to see how you get on with this one 👍.
Welcome back, as far as I'm aware the Titanium X Sport was the range topper, although i don't think there's a lot of difference in spec, just the body kit and red stitched half leather interior. I had a Panther black 2.2 TDCi TXS, it was a great car, looking forward to seeing you sort this one out.....consider changing the Dual Mass Flywheel when you change the clutch.
Same thing happened to my 2011 Titanium x last year, I was quoted nearly £1200 for the repair, new clutch, slave cylinder etc, had to get rid, mine had 155000 on it, great car though
You just know he's not touching that car again and by the time he does there will be no point waste of a car that he had at one point looking quite good
Glad to see you back pal 👍🏻. Ive owned 40+ of these (rented taxis)The orange dust in the engine bay is dust and debris from the DMF breaking up. It goes rusty over time. It gets into everything. It will of got into the slave cylinder and burst the seals. Lift the pedal back up before disconnecting the slave cylinder. Make sure you clean everything properly when putting back together. Even the starter motor. Try not to breath the dust in either pal. It is nasty stuff 👍🏻
Had to laugh when I spotted the green Punto you did the power steering pump on, drive past in the background at the beginning of the video! Liking the Mondeo project, as I been thinking about one as a daily driver for work. So I'll hopefully pick up some hints an tips 😀 for £500 it looks an absolute bargain.
Nice one. Had a Mondeo just like this, estate version, same engine and with the great 6 speed Aisin autobox...loved it and very hesitantly had to let it go because of some DPF issues. Really looking forward to this series.....cheers.
These are superb cars James - I have a Titanium X Sport estate as a run around - it will do over 55mpg on a run, carry wardrobes, is incredibly comfortable and is very carefully looked after. It has the full sat nav etc - which was everything you could have in this car in 2008. Still looks great, nil rust and has been 100% completely reliable. To be honest I can't think of any other car at any price that could replace it (despite having far newer and powerful V8 cars in our stable). If you repair yours - it should last forever!
The 07/57 plates had Bluetooth for phone connection only! You have to upgrade the Bluetooth module to enable the Bluetooth music streaming! And as for the centre screen you wish it had! Look into the standard Blaupunkt NX satnav/climate unit
