Hey guys! Winners for the giveaway in this video have been announced in my community tab so be sure to check there to see if you won! Thanks to everyone who participated and congrats to the winners!
I haven’t started reading or watching Attack on Titan yet but I plan on picking up the volumes after binging the anime once the final season is out. So thanks for this video, I think I’ll be going for the Colossal Edition from the points you made. 🤩
Enjoy the show to it's core, nothing beats the feeling of experiencing Attack on Titan for the first time. The Final season part 2 starts airing this Sunday and total 75 episodes are out. Have the time of your life
That said please be aware of spoilers. There are spoilers everywhere so don't even bother googling Attack on Titan or going to the comment section of any AOT post on any media until you're caught up with the recent episodes. It has the best plot twists don't let others ruin it for you
Ah man, you are in for an incredible experience and I really hope you enjoy it! I remember getting chills the first time I saw it and thinking this is going to be one of the best things I've ever seen, which doesn't usually happen so early on for me. But it's one that builds incredibly over the course of the seasons and chapters. One of my favorites of all-time and one of the series that's hype but actually hyped for good reason! Thank you so much for your kind words and awesome to hear that you are going to get into the manga as well! Have fun binging the series! 😄
Immersion and attention to detail is the most important to me. Which is why I went with the colossals. This series is definitely meant to have these titans straight in your face while reading through it and see the amazing details of the characters and titans. But I absolutely hate that they're paperbacks and the front artwork is the worst compared to the rest. Really just think they're cheaping out to mass produce this series as much and as quickly as they can. They're also releasing a colored hardcover of certain chapters in February. Idk how many volumes there will be since it will be labeled as volume 1, but kind if stupid to do certain chapters instead of the whole series IMHO. They're really cutting all the corners we're asking for 😂
The colored chapters are 12 total between two volumes total. The chapters chosen were decided by Japanese readers in the magazine and Isayama and his editor picked chapters as well.
I'm collecting the colossal editions because the artwork just looks so good in that large format and I love the deep black ink contrasting with the white glossy paper.
There is actually a hardcover release - it‘s in German. The "Attack on Titan Deluxe" volumes feature hardcover AND colored pages, include 3 volumes and cost 25€ =28 USD
Cool that there's a hardcover German version and it's awesome that they have color pages as well! Really hoping they release one in english someday also!
I purchased the singles because I adore isayama’s covers, also I really dislike huge paperback omnibuses. if the colossal editions were like the berserk deluxe editions it’d be no contest, the berserk hardcovers are beautiful I adore them.
Probably one of the best comparisons till date, I really would like to collect the colassol editions cause of the print quality. I started watching Aot just yesterday and am already Loving It :D
Oh wow, thank you so much!!! 😄 That's high praise and I really appreciate it! And ah man, you are in for an awesome experience! I wish I could go back and watch it for the first time again haha I hope you enjoy the series! The print quality is what interested me in the Colossal Editions as well. Hajime Isayama's art, which is already awesome, looks even more incredible in them!
For me I’m collecting the omnibuses as I like how the covers feel and have like a 3d look to them, also they are the cheapest and my tbr log is so long I can wait for them to be fully released lol
Me too! At the top of my wishlist. Really hope they come out with a collector's edition box set similar to what they did with Akira because the hardcovers in that set are beautiful.
@@AnimeCollective I read the manga but I do want to collect them in omnibus versions. But honestly, this series should be like the hardcover books like Berserk and Hellsing. It's worthy of it. I was considering going for the colossal version but I don't know what would come out later down the road. They should be hard covered. And I have that Akira 35th anniversary box set. An awesome addition to my collection.
I seriously recommend getting the omnibus due to the value. The Colossus edition is a bit too expensive and its more cost-effective to get two omnibus's. Get the omnibus if you want to save money at any point. I agree with the people who want to get the singles due to the cover-art (it looks absolutely sick) but the omnibus's are the most cost effective and a bit more immersive than the singles. Still at the end of the day my opinion from experience hope you benefit from it
I’m a big sucker for the large formats so I had to pick up the Colossal editions. The art looks incredible on the larger pages. My only wish is that they were hard covers similar to the dark horse deluxe editions. Can’t wait for the final one to come out though!
I've been collecting the box sets, I like how they're broken up by season/part and the exclusive poster/stickers included. I have S1-S3 currently and am waiting on the Final season box sets to release. I've managed to pick each of them up on discount for ~$30-40ish dollars each. Not quite as cost efficient as Omnibus, but still better than the normal $10.99/volume. I love the way the invdividual box art lines up on my shelf and I can rotate them to any of the box sides to get a unique view.
As much as I would want the colossal editions, I am going with the omnibus editions. I just prefer the cheaper price and having three in one. This was a really informative video and showed me a lot of things I never knew about like the cropping issues, details/lighting, and the full color pages. I hope that this video can help newcomers to the series.
The extras with the box sets have improved greatly over time. Both the season 3 boxes have an extra book of short stories and it looks like final season part 1 includes two books of these short stories. A pretty nice extra read while going through the series.
Great video, ever since I got my Colossal edition 6 from the mail, I couldn't stop worshipping every page as it was like an actual art book. Every panel makes me fill with joy.
considering the price i really wonder why they chose glossy paper over a hardcover for the colossal edition; i mean, it's 1000 pages, that spine is bound to crack
oh wow, thank you so much!!! It really means a lot to me that you took the time to say such kind things. Thanks again and hope you are having an awesome week!
Hey great video! I'm kinda late but I just wanted to mention that the box sets include exclusive posters and short stories which you can't get anywhere else.
Great video. I already own the smaller paperbacks of the entire series, but I was thinking of getting the colossal editions. However, this video made me decide to wait for a potential hardcover.
Thank you so much and that's definitely something I would do as well if I already owned the paperbacks! A hardcover release is something I hope for some day also and I really hope we get one soon!
The Colossal edition from PIKA, a French publisher, is literal perfection. The pages are clear white, smooth, glossy and thick. It's like reading a manga in 4k
Great comparison video and thanks for including all of the pricing info and release dates as well! I'm definitely looking into purchasing the entire AoT manga set one day, but it looks like I'll just wait to see what other versions they may release in the future first. AoT is such a huge franchise that I'm 100% sure availability won't be an issue as they'll just keep printing it for years to come.
Thank you for putting so much effort and research into these videos it really helps someone who is trying to start collecting these types of series. Also I really hate to be that person but Hajime Isayama is pronounced Ha - ji - meh. Japanese names are particularly difficult to pronounce so I know how you feel. I hope that helped!
I really appreciate your kind words! And ah yeah, I was talking really fast so sorry about that. I've been learning Japanese these past few months, which has been super helpful but I really appreciate you for pointing this out. Sometimes I get to talking so fast that names either don't come out like I know they should or I misspeak on occasion even when I know how to say them 😅
Thank you so much, I've always preferred the individual volumes for the later volume covers but after watching this I might just get the Colossal Editions as well.
Of course and thank you!!! The individual covers are awesome and I actually prefer the look of them over the Colossals, so I feel you there! The print quality and the oversized art is what drew me to them even though I also started out collecting the individuals. That would be cool to own both since they each have their benefits!
This was a very helpful video, thank you. 5:54 soldified for me that I would want to get the omnibus. The fact that it's the least cropped (in both directions) seems like a no brainer to me. Lucky I prefer that eggshell-like texture and off-white colour, too. Admittedly, I've never read an omnibus before and have always imagined them simply to be more difficult/uncomfortable to read.. but you make it seem as tho that's not an issue. All that, plus considering it's the least expensive, really sells it for me. I like the idea of different covers for every volume but if anything is steering me clear of them _(aside from the price, which I would argue is valid, to have those different covers)_ it's the contrast difference show at 4:50. That's DRASTICALLY different than the other two. I can tell the Colossal edition is crisp af but the omnibus looks pretty on par. So, omnibus ftw~! All around best choice for me ^-^)b
Just crossed around this channel on the the recommended. Really like the informative breakdown as I also collect manga. Now I need to catch up on the rest of your videos!!!
Thank you for these super comprehensive videos - it’s so helpful of making an informed decision if you are unable to buy these in person. Personally, I like the omnibus version - it’s cheapest, has better sturdiness of cover than the colossal edition but also has a larger print with less art loss! ❤ I love large print manga as well but I’ve seen quite few of the colossal editions in store really banged up - I wish Kodansha printed them with at least thicker covers if not hardcovers.
I’m so happy you made this video, I had started to buy the regular Manga before I seen this video, the first 4 Colossal editions arrived yesterday & they’re so much better than the regular editions. The pages are even bigger than the deluxe editions of Berserk/Hellsing/Blade of the Immortal from Dark Horse, I love these editions, definitely the way to read this Manga.
Wow, thank you very much for this video! I wanted to start my collection of attack on titan manga and I didn't know they sell different editions besides the individual series 😂
Of course and thank you as well!! I didn't know there were so many when I first started collecting the series either! Got into the individuals and then discovered the Colossals and since then more have released. I'm sure there's only more to come too! Awesome that you are getting into the series!
If you plan go keep them forever then go with the colossal editions. They will look better on your shelf. Believe me I wish I had done that with the Berserk editions
I'll always go with the individual. The feeling of joy at looking the cover book art when you have all the volumes in set is uncomparable Is there any One Punch Man manga in your video?
I love the anime! Still haven't pulled the trigger on any of the manga formats. Though if I were to right now, I'd probably go for the colossal editions although the omnibus and box sets are quite attractive as well.
This video was done so well. With so many different editions, I was really trying to figure out which edition would be best for me. So thank you so much for taking the time to show the differences and the pros and cons of each edition. Got a like and sub from me!
Thank you!!! It really means a lot! I was the same way when I got into collecting AoT too. With so many different options it's hard to know which one is the best for you. And of course, I'm always glad to be of help! I really appreciate your kind words and thank you so much for liking and subscribing!
Damn, I was hoping she would talk about the back artwork on the box sets. I know for season 3 they line up but from season 1 part 1 till season 2 it shows the three main enemy titans faces on the side. So it goes Colossal, Female, and Armored Titan
i think the omnibuses are the best for me at least, least cropped, best bang for buck and i personally prefer the offwhite colour and eggshell feel to the pages.
Thank you so much for this video! Your reviews are awesome. I was hesitant at first but after watching your video I decided to buy the Colossal edition set and I LOVE IT! It’s huge 😂 now I’m just waiting for the last volume 7 to be released later this year.
Ah, I didn’t know about the different editions, I’ve started buying the normal ones, I’ve got the first 15 volumes. But this video couldn’t have come at a better time, I was just about to buy all the rest of the volumes, but now I’ll definitely go for the Colossal editions. I much prefer the larger format like with Berserk, Hellsing & Blade of the Immortal deluxe editions.
Of course and thank you so much for your kind words!!! I was too at first! I thought others may have been experiencing the same struggle I had at first when deciding which way to collect, so it means a lot to hear that you found this video to be helpful! Thanks so much again!
You may have noticed that vol 2 of the colossal edition had a differing spine color. Be aware that this is not just her collection, but mine as well, so it appears it may be common.
Thanks Kristen. A Merry Christmas and Happy New to you. Thank you for this excellent comparison video. I hope you do more. I’ve not read or watched AoT, but after this I’ll certainly be getting the Colossal Editions.I love oversized collected editions, but I also hope they bring out hardcover editions.
Of course, thank you so much and I hope you had a Happy Holidays and New Year!!! I definitely have more on the way soon and a lot planned out for the year as well! I am the same! Absolutely love large format editions, so had to pick these up as well. Here's hoping they come out with hardcovers! I also would love to see them release hardcovers or maybe even a collector's edition box set with hardcovers like they did with Akira! Thanks again!!
As someone who started buying manga last year, I recently bought the Final Season Part 1 Box Set because it was on sale and *personally* I do think it's a really good way to collect manga for a few reasons: - it's less of a hassle to try to find individual volumes. There's always the one or two volumes that are constantly out of stock (could just be a Canada thing, I'm not sure but it is sometimes annoying) so knowing that you'll get all the volumes if you get the sets, it's less frustrating - the size of the books makes it easier to carry around. I definitely understand wanting to see the art better, but for me I would rather pull out a book than what looks like a giant textbook in public XD the art is more enhanced in the omnibus and Colossal but that's a trade I'm willing to make - I like the extra stuff you get, as well as the box itself is also neat. I also like that they're separated by seasons, so if one day I'm like "I wanna reread __ scene from Season __ again" I can just simply look by box instead of looking through volumes. My main issue with the box sets is that if it has extra stuff that you'd typically remove like a poster, when you remove it, it creates a small space in the box which can make it easier to take the books out. However if it doesn't come with anything, the books can be a little tight together and it can be hard to pull out the book "normally" (as in either grabbing either side of the spine, or from the top) without nicking the spine. The only simple solution is to tilt the box forward enough that the books slide out. Other than that, I'm definitely a "box set" person, especially when they're on sale :)
I read AOT via Crunchyroll/comixology mostly because I couldn't decide if I wanted to buy AOT at all (had some doubts about direction of manga + am not the biggest fan of Isayama's early art in the series) but I've been thinking of picking it up since it is a series that had a big impact on me and one of the few where I closely followed the anime (not a big anime watcher) so this video was super interesting! I've always been skeptical of the Colossals specifically BC of the glue binding and paperback but as you said a deluxe hardcover edition would be wicked... Might just hold off yet again and avoid making a choice 😅 thanks for the great comparison anyway!
I know it's been a year, but I don't want to choose between the current editions either. Personally I want to wait some more and see if they release an even cooler, higher quality edition!
I have read the manga and I'm collecting the paperback edition because i like how they look on the shelf! I bought 3 box sets and got the rest individually.
@@ashraf2777 So i have watched the anime and have read the manga after i finished the anime, both were a masterpiece and AOT is my all time favorite anime. You won't go wrong if u watch the anime or only read the manga.
I've been getting the colossal editions personally because I like getting collected versions of comics, and I like the bigger print. Naturally, after I started getting them, the omnibuses start coming out. :P
These books need to be large hard covers and in color. You inspired me to get the colossal editions once in color. When it comes to the word bubbles hard to read its called gutter loss but other then that issue 💪😁 hella review keep it coming.
Im probably going for the ominibus. Its also cheaper, atleast where i live. I can get 2 ominibusses and it costs 7 dollars less than the colossal edition. Thanks for the review, very informative
Torn between picking up the colossal editions now before they get crazy expensive or waiting to see if they do something like the Dark Horse hardcover editions
I had this exact same dilemma haha I really want hardcovers of AoT but got too impatient and purchased the Colossals. I ended up being pleasantly surprised by the print quality and how enjoyable it is to read in the large format but a hardcover release would be better if they came out with one. Here's hoping! 🤞
Not every series will get a hardcover release. Maybe in 20 years! A lot of newer collectors want all of the “popular” series in hardcover format. Uh…that is not happening. Buy what you can now…is my philosophy.
i always read on the go and having a book collection can be rather pricey so i opted for the omnibus edition. i'm so satisfied with it however its cover can be scratched easily so i recommend you having some protection on your books if you are having a busy af life
I wish this video could be added to now that all the omnibus are almost out the last colossal an box set came out an now the full colours have started coming out
Wow, you are thorough !! Kudos 👏 I just picked up the individual paperbacks (1-4) and was wondering if I should have gone a different format or boxset. 🙃 I am surprised the colossal editions weren't made in hardcovers.
It really depends on the person I collect the singles because I just like having the singles on display and like having all the covers, but for something like death note having the black edition in my opinion is better since it just looks much cooler with the pages having a black outline and the cover being in black. Then again the deaths note black edition is 2 in 1 and is not too big in comparison to something like vagabond or berserk (it’s like the height of Tokyo Ghoul but wider). The colossal edition is quite big from what I can see and on a shelf but they do have bonus things like short stories at the end (spin offs) and are cheaper so In the end both have their pros and cons and I suggest you go with which one you would like to see on your shelf in 5 years. Really don’t worry about the price and collect at your own speed, so don’t get the cheaper version to save money when you really want the regular option because then when you can afford the regular you might regret it. In all honesty the colossal editions are pretty cool and having them in such a big size is probably really captivating but as someone who doesn’t want to start collecting the colossal edition after collecting the normal for so long I plan on just continuing with the singles. Now looking back this is way longer than intended. Too everyone who stuck around and read this if you’d haven’t been collecting the promised never land manga and want too on Amazon right now 1-5 is on sale for around 37 bucks. Just search up “promised never land manga 1-5” it’s a set. I haven’t personally bought it so I’m not sure if it’ll be good quality but hopefully it is:)
I really hope they release a hardcover of the colossal version as I don’t like big books that have paperback due to the words and pictures going to the center and it’s hard to read
Very nice vid. Thank you for all the info. I have the box sets and and I’m super happy with it. I like the artwork and I’m generally a fan of boxes. Here in Germany we have also hardcover editions which are still ongoing.
Individual paperbacks for me cuz I like having the cover arts for each volume. A bit small sure but I have the first colossal edition and found it too hefty to read comfortably
