Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This RU-vid channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Hey Rick, Decathlon is french brand that cover a lot of sport including golf for about 10 years. You should try the Inesis 500, those were the 100 and they also have the 900. The 500 coast 400 euros for a set from P to 5 irons, they are really forgiving and easy to play. Playing with them at the moment! Thanks for the great content as always. Not sure what the cost is to play wherever you are located....but as expensive as equipment is to buy, the bigger cost by far is green fees....unless you replace your gear every year or 2. This season I probably paid close to $2000 in greens fees....add in balls, gloves and beers....it makes the equipment seem relatively inexpensive

I've just recently started playing golf and picked these up. They seemed like a good balance as being "good enough" without spending a fortune. The last thing I wanted is to spend £100s on a set and then not really like playing in a few weeks. So far so good, they've got me into the game and although I'll likely replace them after Christmas (now that I know I like golf) I can stick them on eBay without being out too much money! The other problem with being a beginner is that buying clubs is really confusing - there are just so many options. So picking up a half set like this is nice and easy and if you've made a mistake, it's not cost you too much. In the meantime you can learn a bit more about the game and figure out what you really want to buy. I'd definitely recommend these to beginners like me (less than 3 months playing now).

Inesis do a better range of clubs as well, more suited to more advanced level of player. The 500 and 900 ranges of clubs are very good. I've been using their Tour 900 balls for a few months now and I would have them right up there with Pro V1 balls. Would love to see you reviewing them. I bought a new set of Taylor Made M4 irons recently but was considering the Inesis 500 irons. Only reason I didn't go for them is because I hadn't see a Rick Shiels review of them yet.

Just a quick suggestion Rick. ---------, Rick walks to the first, bangs down three yellow balls using his own clubs. Then Rick bangs down three white balls with beginners clubs. Rick gathers all the balls except 2. The best yellow ball and the best white ball. From here, Rick plays 3 shots again from the best positioned ball ( yellow from best yellow , white from m best white ). After a few holes, we the punters can probably get a good idea of how they play. Cheers, love your work!.

I went into a Decathlon for the first time recently, and I was BLOWN AWAY by the quality and prices of just about everything they sell. Then I found the Inesis stuff, and was blown away even more by the quality and pricing. I bought some Inesis pants for $20 that would cost $200+ in GolfTown... It's my new favourite store 😁

It’s all their own brand gear but they have a different name for every sport’s range. Inesis is golf, Tribord is sailing, Solognac is hunting, Caperlan is fishing etc. They make stuff at all different price points. They number them from 50 for the cheapest theough 100 for basic, 500 for good quality and 900 for top quality. The 900 stuff is basically every bit as good as anything on the market but considerably cheaper. For example, their insulated 100 jacket costs €35 and is fantastic. But they also do a 500 and 900 version that are rated to lower temperatures but cost more. Their hunting range (Solognac) is great quality outdoorsy gear at a very good price. I have a pair of their waterproof golf shoes. They’re fantastic. And their mid ranged balls are good as well. Soft 500 for €17 a dozen.

Great, honest review. I just got these clubs about a month ago and have played a couple rounds with them and not only have they been fine for a beginner, it's nice having a version of almost anything you'd need. I have friends with hand-me-down sets or second hand sets and they're missing some key pieces, whether that's a sand wedge or a hybrid or driver. My clubs may not be first choice compared to someone else's expensive driver but when I'm the only one with a driver it feels good to be equipped to play a round and give myself a fair shake.

I often buy stuff from Decathlon in Brazil, mainly camping gear, but their golf isle is just expensive UV umbrellas, no golf equipment. Golf in Brazil is reserved for the elite here, you can only import golf clubs unless you are happy paying 580 USD for a club you could buy for 100 USD in the USA (just went online to compare buying a Callaway mack daddy wedge you can easily buy from a big online store here in Brazil and on EBay USA). You have to be middle to upper class to afford playing what us golfers would call reasonable golf courses, nothing special. And they have no desire to make the sport more popular among common folk, the financially well off prefer keeping the game reserved for the posh.

They are advertised as for 30+ handicap which i think is the perfect description. My son still plays them whereas i have upgraded. It is a bit of a catch 22. If you know you are going to carry on playing i would say spend more and get second hand forgiving clubs. But for finding out if you like golf they are perfect.

I live near one, and right now you can get the INESIS 500 irons for 350$ can (reg. 490$) (5-PW). You can also get the Inesis 500 Driver for 120$ (reg. 190$). End of season great sales!. I bought the Inesis 500 irons this summer as my second travel set, they perform very well. Recently, I gave a try to the Inesis Driver, I sold my Taylormade Rocketballz and bought the Inesis 500 and drive 10 yards further and straighter. My daughter has the old Inesis 500 irons which look exactly like the new 100, we bought each club separately for 10$ each (end of season deal). The 500 series has 3 top quality shafts and 2 lengths (shafts: Recoil, UST Elements, Nippon 950). My only complain is the grip size that feel too small even if I bought the size 2, which has longer shaft and has medium size grips. I removed them and put a real medium grip.

Great review! I'm actually a new golfer myself and i use a lot of the Inesis stuff cuz it's just so cheap and really are more than enough for a beginner. I mean like 0,60€ per Golf ball is just unbeatable. And I read a lot of positive reviews for the more premium balls of this brand. This might be a very interisting future review for you Rick. I mean pretty sure they won't stand a chance against a Pro V1.....or will they?!

Would love to see you get a 15+ HCP'er to play a new half set like this versus a full set of used clubs from Golfbidder for the same price. This would be helpful in my suggestions for friends looking to get into the game.

My mate actually bought this set as his first set. It looks decent for the price and lasted past when he upgraded. Nice one Rick. Great video as always.

Had you missed the putt, I still would have liked the video. As for the clubs, they look ok, but no one really hopes to stay playing, as a "beginner" level player. Having all of that bounce, on every iron, would become a problem, quite soon after one gains a little confidence in hitting the ball. These would be perfect for the player who only gets out a few times per year. For those with a desire to put in range time and have an intent to commit to learning the game, I would buy slightly better clubs, that might grow with me. These ones don't really have that ability. You are kind of stuck with whatever clubs you buy, as your first set, at least for a season or two, so whatever you buy, should not become a problem during that time. As always, great video Rick. Love from Canada.

Top notch review. The equipment reviews are my favorite, even on these silly cheaper clubs. Keep up the good work! Hope to see more equipment reviews in the near future!

People should still use a normal starter set, Which these days should be a driver, hybrid, 5,7,9, pw at very minimum. Adding a sw would make it more than good enough for a starter.

My first set was a driver and 3 wood with persimmon heads, 3,5,7,9 irons and a blade putter made by Spalding. They were a Christmas present from my uncle in the early 60's.

Still have my first set of clubs, they were good used clubs. Tommy Armour 845 SilverScots and Titleist PT driver & 3W. Started with a group of guys and a few who bought cheap knock off no-name clubs never stuck to golfing, done after 2 or 3 seasons.

First off, great video. Hope to see more like this. When I first started it was so confusing on where to start. Secondly, I'm surprised you didn't get a decathlon bag, it's often a piece of gear that's overlooked and there's such a wide range of bags in all different price points.

I have a lot of golf stuff from decathlon. The balls are cheap and good, the 90 Euro trolley is better than my expensive one, but best is the 130 Euro cartbag. You won't find one which is better thought out anywhere. The small bags are great, too. Also love my Inesis 500 hybrid.

I bought the putter from that set for £15 from Decathlon when my first one broke, as a stop gap before I bought my current Odyssey. I was personally really impressed, despite the really metallic sound!

Seeing you hit the hybrid reminds me of some things. I’m never quite sure how high to set the ball when teeing off with different clubs. Do you even put it on a tee when using an iron? What’s the best practice/situation for each club?

Thanks Rick. These are my favorite vids you do. I have been playing for over 30 years and these clubs are not for me but it is fun to watch you having fun with new and/or different clubs. Quit struggling and every now and then just have fun and laugh!!!!!!!!

You should try out a set of left handed beginner clubs! That way your swing would be more fitting for a beginner set!!

I bought these clubs a year ago (Summer 21) they were good. The big issue I had is that the hybrid actually snapped after about 6 months of very casual use. Just a note to anyone considering them. I'd probably consider paying a bit more to get a bag and something that'll last a year or two.

Should have definitely gone for the Inesis 300 set over the 100 set. I know the 300's you either have to buy individually or buy irons then driver then putter then woods. But it has loads of customisation options and they are pucker for the price. Also the 300 putters are a different beast entirely to the 100's. That's the biggest difference.

My first ever set came from a catalogue many years ago. If your only just starting out why spend a fortune you can always advance as you get better. They look like an old set I had oversized which is slightly easier to strike
