Jimmy, I recently came across your channel and binged watched all your videos. Keep up the great work, hope things get better for you and these stupid car prices come down so you can put out more content. I do have a question and possibly video that would be helpful, is there anyway you can make a video showing what you do to clean/ polish the headlights? I don’t remember seeing what process you follow in any of your videos.
Owned a half a dozen or so of these things with zetec and duratec, manual and auto. Easy to work on. Cheap to maintain. Still have one in great running shape with 250k on the odometer. Love em
Congrats on the new job! Another great video as well! Good to see you doing well! Also i really hope you are now able to figure out your housing situation now that you have a little more income coming in. Thanks for the great videos. Keep'em comin!
I’m a little late to the party good to see you got a pretty decent flip for the car and the new owner has something in good condition to drive in I’d love to see the at work vids I think that would help the Chanel for sure things seem to be looking more hopeful for you and I’m glad to see it much love brotha take care
The transmission range sensor is a super common issue on those fords/mercs with the 2.5 V6. I had a 2000 Merc Cougar with the 2.5 V6 and it threw the code for the trans range sensor and at the time I had that car the only place to get it was the dealer. I paid 75$ for it and it fixed it for a bit and then it went bad and had to do it again. But back then in 2008 I was 18 and I hadn't really worked on cars much so I didn't know to do a trans drain and refill and change the filter and all that jazz. That cougar was a giant pile of shit though. That being said, a bucket list car of mine is the SVT Contour. Such a cool and unique car.
Hey Jim. Im a recent new viewer, I had a video request if you were ever able to get around to it. (In your free time) if you could make a video on how to adjust your drivers seat for the best view and comfort. Im having trouble getting the right height and forward/back adjustment balanced out mainly. Congrats on the new job btw. I had a 99 Contour SE. I loved it. But it had several issues. One being similar to this transmission issue and im starting to think it could have very well been the same with mine. But thanks in advance. And best wishes for you moving forward. Im a fan!
I used to have a 1998 Ford Contour SE in light denim blue. I got it in mid October 1999 to late May 2005. It was a good car to drive. My father accidentally backed into with his pickup truck. I have a cut out from his trailer hitch opening. It was his fault on it. I should kept it a little bit longer. I even cleaned it before trading it on a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 SES in late May 2005. Now I drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. I had a couple cars before the current vehicle.
jimmy you are a great mechanic, just wondering do you have any formal mechanic training or self taught? if self taught what resources you use to gain your knowledge?
I had a 1995 Ford Contour Svt, 5 speed as a First car and beat the heck out of it and it lasted for a surprising 450.000 miles until I got rear ended, had 5 star rims and one heck of a sound system in it , I definitely miss it, now I'm driving a piece of junk 2008 Ford Focus SeS minus the Rocker panels lol . I'd gladly buy another Contour without a thought.
Welcome to ford contour ownership. If you did your research than you would have known what you were getting into. These cars are simply put, terrible and unreliable but man I'd be making an understatement if I said these cars are a blast to drive. Still, these cars are the most unreliable things out there.
I'm doing alright thank you for asking, I'm working on a few videos right now it's just been difficult with work etc. Editing them can take a few hours and actually being able to get one full video out of the vehicles I'm fixing at work is tricky because I work on half a dozen a day so by the time I've rebuilt one they've already sold it so I never get to finish the video. But they're coming...just sloooow lol
What state are you in? I thought I saw TX plates…? If the owner wants, there are a couple FB pages dedicated to the Contour. We can help them out in the future & even maybe meet up some day! #savethecontours
Hey Jim, quick question on my 97 Camry. It seems to stutter at take off when in the drive gear. And when at a red light it acts like it wants to shut off bouncing up and down to 0 but it never shuts off. It drives just fine once you get going. I was thinking maybe new spark plugs and wires but didn't want to spend money guessing. Thanks jim. Hope to see a new vid soon. Take care
Check the throttle body and the idle air control valve and make sure both are clean and free of carbon, that's a common issue on those to get carbon/gunk in the throttle body and the idle goes erratic
I have that same car, I bought it with 48000 miles on it 2 years ago and I'm telling you now it's draining my energy, their is a parasitic drain killing my batteries, and I'm not even sure it's the alternator because I replaced that in March of last year and I don't want to buy I new vehicle because the prices are so high.
@@cybersfn7678 I baught one about 2 years ago with 57,000 miles. Now it's at about 99,000 and still going strong. Did have the tensioner pulley break, and did replace the resonator like 2 days ago. But it's a 99 that's I've doubled the miles on in 2 years .....
