Kids, buy a clean Vic for under 2K, put a blower and tires on it, and run this slow Merc off the road. They should have named this model 'nova'. It was designed for a hopped up Triton V-10 but FoMoCo said; wait for it, No Va! A 4.6 is a durable low compression motor, with 7-8 lbs boost it makes 400 hp and holds up well. What a great el cheapo diy project car, a real sleeper! Just stay away from the options when you buy one; the electric seats and windows, funky opt luminescent dash, and the opt air suspension. Look for one with the factory tow package. BTW Cop Vics use the same powertrain, so I'd stay away from them cuz they're beat. Five grand will get you a nice sleeper (if you provide the labor) that will run mid 13's.
chris chilson Even then, the Marauder has an unexplainable swagger you can’t replicate with your average Vic. Of course, you could always just rebadge a Vic, but you’d just be driving a clone.
@@c4llahan At the last minute in late 2002 FoMoCo management nixed the Triton V-10 this car was designed for because of a gas guzzler tax. This 450hp/470 ft lb motor would have put this car in the mid 13's. The 'HO' engine used made only 63 hp/25 ft lb more than the anemic 4.6 it replaced. Low speed torque was actually worse than the base 4.6 below 3000 rpm. Not good with 2 tons to launch. Even repetitious Jackie Stewart commercials couldn't help sales. Some say these could be bought for under 25K new in 2006, but I didn't see that. It is a collector car now, I even saw one on Mecam! Find a clean one and put a blower on it, and there's your 'sleeper' muscle car ;)
Ignacio Alveraz my father is a very lucky man, he bought a brand new mercury marauder in 2003 from a dealership. But in that special case ford did a special thing for the dealership owner and sent his marauder to the guys at svt. They put a cobra engine in it and gave it that svt spice. It hit the dyno and made 380 horses
The sound the door makes when you slam it closed is probably one of the most satisfying sounds I’ve ever heard. You can just hear how heavy and well built that car is.
My OCD couldn't stop looking at them, which made me not pay too much attention to whatever he was talking about, and then I saw the crappy RED Sharpie job on the badges and whatnot. Shame, shame, shame!!
The issue with plastic headlights is oxidation - polish it off, expose new plastic, and the issue starts over. I found new aftermarket headlights for my car for about $30 each and they're still clear a few years in.
The car wizard needs a microphone in Hoovie's videos and the car wizard needs his own videos of him actually showing "how-to" of the cars he fixes for Hoovie.
Take about a grand, do 4.10 gears, rear control arms and a tune to start and it's a whole new car. Things like lowered springs, cold air intake, underdrive pulley really increase the performance feel. Yep, it's a 4200lb brick. A supercharger is the hot ticket for the ultimate sleeper. They're rare at only 11,052 made. I have a silver 2004 with a sunroof and only 3,214 were made that year. Not too many people know these were available in four colors.
intake are going to make you run lean unless you tune your car. good way to give your 4.6 the shaft is by just adding an intake for no other reason than to say you got sweet mods like a cold air intake bruh
I love these things. The old Land Yachts are an institution and an antidote to the over complex techno brand boxes we drive now. Please keep this one and keep it standard!
Kay Mutua Fuck that NSX it was slow. I know I sound like a child but I’m not into slow cars if he had kept it I would have hoped he TT it or supercharged it.
Built in St Thomas Ontario Canada, right around the corner from me. My father worked there for 32 years, I remember when he would bring these cars home fresh off the factory floor. Really cool history on these cars. Do a video looking under the back seat, all of the factory workers that worked on these cars would sign the floor underneath the rear seat cushion. Thanks for sharing
St. Thomas Assembly was an automobile plant located in Southwold, Ontario, Canada close to the Talbotville community and to the nearby city of St. Thomas. According to Wikipedia, but what do they know
@@randolfo1265 so still not st thomas which was my point . And depending which gate you entered by it was either talbotville or southhold , as it was halfway between . My friends lived on the dividing road - on their side talbotville , other side of the road southhold. Fun if you had to call emergency services
I grew up in London, ON about 15min north of the plant. Many fond memories seeing the brand new Crown Vics and Grand Marquis up on the display stands by the highway. It must have influenced me, because I've owned several Panther platform cars and currently have 3 including a 1987 LTD Crown Vic that was built within a week of my birth. When the plant was built in 1967, St. Thomas was the closest recognizable city, hence the plant name (even though the village of Talbotville was closer). The City of London annexed part of the township just north of the plant in the mid '90s, so if the plant had been built since then, it would have been called the London Assembly Plant. Many locals in the area have referred to it as Ford Talbotville. It's now a big empty field.
Marauder is a great find, too bad that one was neglected by its previous owner. Still, most of the issues appear to be fixable at minimal cost... and with only 103,xxx on the odometer it should be reliable for years to come.
D4x4Bronc yes One of those kind of cars that is always getting the tires shined turtle wax and armor all But then cranking up the boombox add zigzagging in traffic at 60 miles an hour
I confess, I also love that old platform. I once owned a Crown Vic that I purchased from a Police Chaplain. Seriously, I didn't even know there was such a thing. The guy was actually a Sargent. He told me one of his duties was to go to car accidents (when called) and give last rights. Anyway, the car he sold me was fantastic; Rear air ride suspension, leather, air bladder type lower lumbar in the driver's seat and black rubber plugs on the rear trunk lid where the police radio antenna used to go. It was like driving a marshmallow. I loved that car.
50 Ducks In A Hot Tub yes i prefer japanaese And I do love the muscle cars of America, and this was one of my favorites when I knew they put the Mustang motor in it, I remember when this first came out I was glued to the screen watching motor week
Your SS was pretty cool too, Corvette motor, good suspension, posi. But the Spanish kids love 'em and you can't find them cheap any more, Vics are everywhere.
No no no its a dam ford.as the owner of the 94Limited Buick Roadmaster I am LS1 swap mine to get that better gas mileage and performance.u should be too don't retire the ImpalaSS up grade it to the LS1
Panther Platform man I was just about to buy one my dealer got on trade in it was $4K and the Ac didn’t work and the ABS and Brake lights were on. My heart told me to but my gut was screaming no I really wanted it but I can’t afford another project I already have 2 I just wanted a clean daily driver that is pretty cool and collectible guess I’ll be getting a crown Vic instead.
@@shawnprickett4099 get yourself a P71 if you have to get a Vic.. They're actually not that far behind these Marauders, plus ppl drive better around n next to you..lol
@@crankychris2 not all cop Vics get abused tho man, heck, many times are much better maintained too, I bought mine at 73k miles, now have 77k miles n runs great, I love it..
My dad actually ended up buying one 2 years back for around the same price. One owner, 173,000 miles, ever single recommended maintenance was performed and documented. He even had the body mounts bushings changed. I love that car.
Nice car, Super nice deal, I just bought a 92 Jack Nicholas edition LTC Signature with 122K yesterday Triple white with a formal roof & a long skinny back window, I love it.
one of my dream cars is a maurader vt, the super rare version of this, 0-60 in 5 sec, and looks about the same on the outside, one of the rarest cars of the new millennium
@@210SAi Yes, but they only made about 100, 430 hp, and a couple had 550 hp. the only one i ever saw irl was at carmax (of all places) many years ago, and they wanted over 30k for it
Nice, a Panther. FYI brakes are not cop. They are same as every other Panther platform car except Town Car limo. Rear lights are not cop. They are unique to Marauder. Steering wheel is also unique to Marauder. Center console was available on Crown Vic Sport and Grand Marquis LSE aside from dot matrix section. Front suspension is not cop, it's Marauder specific.
Danny Cheeks I guess being a Cobalt owner you would know better then someone who owned 8 Panther platform cars, ran a Panther platform website and setup annual tours of St. Thomas assembly plant where these cars were built for the last 8 years of production. Not to mention currently owning the most cross platform, parts bin swapped Panther platform car in the world. But what do I know I am just a bullshitter.
crownvic ca These thing had the different offset suspension that was later copied onto the rest of the panther platform correct? I remember reading something about they moved the mounting points of the shocks etc when they designed the Marauder
crownvic ca - Do you own that 2 door box Panther Mercury (IIRC) on a late model CV chassis with a modular? Now *that's* the most cross-pollinated Panther that I know of.
That amp sells on eBay for $150 Don't fall for the hyphonics website price of $1900 That is there so local shops can rip people off. They are like. I'll sell you this amp for $700 it sells normally for $2000.. See look at there website.
Ahhhhhhh Panther goodliness! Im stalking through your earlier videos Hoovie, Got to say youve come a long way but Im still enjoying the heck out of your stuff.
Tyler is actually really stuck up. He's a nice guy, but known to be a bit of a snob in his real life. My dad did work for his dad before and met Tyler several years ago, and he would hardly even look at my dad and refused to shake his hand or talk to him. I imagine that's because my dad was the manual labor, and Hoovie didn't fraternize with the "help". I think he's probably less snobby than that now.
I remember when I worked at a Ford Lincoln and Mercury dealership we had 2 Marauders in stock just like this. Nobody wanted them. Finally a old fella came in and bought one after a year of sitting on the lot. That old guy loved that car. By the way, this engine in the Marauder really comes alive at higher rpms. Get that baby up on the cams and she’ll pull like a rocket.
Mike Dancy Not really, that HU is a real bottom rung Alpine, the subs appear to be kicker solos which he could maybe get something out of from a bass head the really wants a pair of 15" solos. That Hifonics amp might net him $50, it was maybe 200 new. Unless you got a stereo like the one in his Ferrari your not gonna get shit for any of it.
@@Millz5231 I know the entire city population didnt have the car it was a figure of speech. Im fully aware it was popular car in the D thats why I made the statement.
Now were talking! The marauder is one of my favourite cars ever and i have to say that leather jacket is going to bring the car value in a future classic car auction. Good stuff keep it going man!
Something that I saw done during a Marauder that was reviewed by Regular Car Reviews that might help yours in the power is throwing a 4.10 rear end in it. It will hurt the top end, but that low end will make the tires beg for mercy.
Generally? The 4.6 is probably the most reliable ford engine since the 300 I6, not to mention the 4v is a lot better breathing than the 2v. They do 400K miles easy, even when beat on, and have infinite aftermarket support. Not the fastest thing out there....but still plenty fun.
I have a friend who is a Taxi driver with a Crown vic...760,000 miles...never been apart...just replaced alternator, serpentine belts, and fluids. And it gets driven pretty hard in city traffic. My town car had 340,000 when i sold it (although it WAS more highway miles...) and is still around, I see it every once in a while in town. Guy I sold it to says it's over 400K now. They last forever if you take care of them. 200K is easily achieved, 300K is harder but not impossible. 400K and above is not as uncommon as you think, especially for livery and taxi cars.
Armando Sturzenegger I have a Crown Vic with 402,000 miles on it sitting in my driveway right now that if I wanted to, I could confidently jump in it and drive it to California from Virginia right now and not have a problem.
Maticalise Music Master it's defo not my kind of car, we didn't ever have land yachts. But I have to agree with this one. I'd black out the red, but apart from that it's looks mean. Well I'd keep the badge red, and ditch the lettering on the rear bumper.
I will buy it...ive had a 2003 marauder..invested 40,000 into it..needed money one day and sold it for 25,000 in 10 minutes on craigs list...i miss it.
Michael McKenzie don’t worry about Tyler I’m more worried about that tax scam cars for kids They Scrap so many decent cheap cars it’s unbelievable Causing a used car market to actually titan a bit making what’s available more expensive I hate that charity is total bull crap who is it helping it’s actually making it more expensive for people that are on a tight budget
jbudd331 there's a small.company from Italy called Lamborghini. They make a few cars a year so you may not have heard of them. RU-vid has a little known feature called "search". You can access this feature by tapping your finger or clicking your mouse on the little magnifying glass icon at the top of your screen. Might I suggest you search for something called a "Murcielago"., it has a V12 (that's a an engine that has four more cylinders then the engine in the marauder 😉). There's also a smallish company from Italy called "Ferrari". They also only make a few cars so you may not have heard of them. Might I suggest you search (on RU-vid) for something called an "f355". That motor is also a V8, however it has five valves per cylinder. You may be impressed. Hope this helps 😉
Man those ride smooth... i had a 2002 Lx police package. Ran great , loved when then passing gear kicked in and the tail end wanted to get loose at 50mph when it kicked in. Fun to drive.
this is my favourite car ever! I had a Grand Marquis it was amazing and I always wanted one of these. Bahaha I had two twelves in that space and they fit perfectly in that little well that I'm sure is under those 15s and didn't eat up the whole trunk. That radio placement is pretty much the only thing they ever moved. Where you aftermarket esque gauges are is where my 94 Marquis had the radio
I actually really like the red painted bits. Adds just the right amount of flash in my opinion. Just enough to let you know you are looking at something special.
I love my 2003 Mercury Marauder. I bought it about a year ago for $4k and in really great condition for the year. Only problem was the stock radio didn't work but got that fixed. Everything is all stock though. No paint or body work. I hope you do something pretty cool with yours. Definitely following.
Awesome purchase dude. Please more videos and take it to the wizard and upgrade it and fix it and make it a beast . I drive a 1996 crown vic and i love this platform
Nice! That car sounds so awesome with the exhaust cut off! I don't mind the red accents but the subwoofer and aftermarket radio would have to go if it was mine. I would be finding a stock radio for it. You got a steal on it though, congratulations!!
