Cant believe it. How unthoughtful. You've delayed my entertainment, watching you put the hard effort in,all for free. Whilst I sit on my arse. Expect contact from my lawyer.
Just watched a drivetribe video and they have 2 million subscribers. Your video Dean is 10 times more interesting than the stuff they put out! You should have a lot more subs definitely!
Dean, my preference is for longer videos. I`m no mechanic but have a deep love for cars and their mechanicals, so the longer the better. Nice motor, look forward to seeing it pristine.
Enjoyed the longer episode with the conclusion of starting the engine 👍. Can't believe the price of the injectors 😞, surely some clever person out there can rebuild them?
Enjoyed this "all in one" episode - brilliant that you found the source of the problem and got it going in one video ! the price of those injectors is just mad ! Amazed at your stamina to be outside working on a car in the temperatures we had last Monday!
Loving your content, M539 Restorations puts out fantastic content and has longer videos. He is doing OK for himself. You seem like a great British contender to be as good as that channel.
Literally nothing wrong with that motor, sounds pretty sweet, it’s had a leaking injector probably for god knows how long , all adaptions , STFT aswell as LTFT are probably a mess hence why started a little rough and levelled out. Reset adaptions and go for a good old blast, Job done 👌🏻
Yeah, Vr6's (and most VW engines) are very noisy and rattley. I thought my car had a broken timing chain tensioner, but it just turned out to be the idle sound.
Amazing choice of car. Best sounding engine for the money. Love to see these kinds of cars being saved. Keep it up. Look forward to more content on the golf. 👍
Loved the vid, I daily my mk5 R32 so when the video popped up I was right on it! Liked how a lot of the work was done in just one video as well…really enjoyed watching it 👍👍
Good video.. a tutorial vid for anyone with a R32.. If your videos are this detailed keep em coming.. Helpful to anyone out there with mechanical trouble.. 👍 👌
Having had a new Mk 5 R32 with a non resonated Milltek exhaust back in 2009, I think your engine sounds good to me. These are fantastic cars, & seeing you work on this good looking example brings back fond memories. I was very surprised at the cost of the fuel injectors, but at least the two you bought sorted out the problem. Looking forward to the next instalment of this 'restoration ' & keep up the good work! 👍🔥👍
When you took the fuel rail out and turned on the ignition, at the sight of flowing fuel, I actually shouted at the screen "Turn Off The Ignition"!!!! I got a little too invested there.... Good video as always, keep them coming. I worked as a VW sales person in 06 07 08 and these R32 were just sublime!!!
Damn! I used to have 1 of these - regret selling it, but trade in was too good for me not to against my RS4 at the time. I'd like to own another one as it was just a fun and great sounding car to drive. Good work on getting it started though I have to admit it didn't sound right when you started it.... Definitely look forward to seeing the next vid on it!
Great work! I love these cars so much. Been forced to educate myself after becoming the owner of a mk6 golf tdi. Just want to learn as much as I can so I can stop getting wrecked by shops.
Enjoyed that. Don’t mind how it’s done, but I could sit and watch 2 hours of this stuff. Don’t watch TV anymore, too depressing and crap, I just watch videos on cars, chess and log cabin builds. Dreaming of a better life! The only thing I know about compression was when my V8 A6 seemingly had none, or little, after months on a ramp, it needed a little oil down each bore to seal them up, or something.
Spot on ! Always loved the sound but not the price. Recently aquired a a3 3.2 06 plate manual 3dr. So has the facelift front end etc. 3k rather than double / triple that. Bit ropey but its a project that runs and drives.
I absolutely love your channel! Been following for years and this is my dream car and I was able to buy this exact spec a few months ago!! Can’t wait to see more, cheers!
It’s difficult to find the problem when it’s not so obvious. Great job and great video! I’m working on an ‘89 F-250 with a 7.5L. Not knowing anything about the engine it’s taken me 3 months to sort every thing out, she runs perfect now and I know more about this engine than before so that’s a plus. Cheers!
Subscribed, enjoyable video. When I saw fluid gushing out of cylinders 5 and 6 I thought it was coolant (so maybe bad head gasket) but you obviously could smell that it was fuel so went in the correct direction to diagnose the problem. Will wait for second part. VR6s sound great with a loud exhaust, maybe you want to look into that lol.
Great video, I work alot on r32s so good to see something familiar! I do like a full episode with a start, diagnose and fix all in one, but I do like a series on bigger projects too 👍
Hi, just a quick question as you are familiar with the cars. Are parts readily available for them still? I’m looking to get one but given the age of the cars sometimes it can be hard to get parts for cars now. Thanks
Good job and best of luck to you!! I owned a 2004 MkIV R32 (6spdM) and a 2008 MkV R32 (6spd DSG), loved them both. Although the MkV had a more rigid frame, the MkIV seemed a bit more nimble of a car, but that could be the 150 Lbs it had less in weight.
Great result, wish i’d bought that if it was cheap, these are doing good money. Don’t normally buy cars with Scottish registration plates as it generally means rust but that looks alright, would be worth removing the wheel arch liners and cleaning them out behind as these are common for wings rusting, even if they haven’t been up in Scotland. Well done! 👍
Yeah I got burned on a Scottish car pulled away the arch liners on the rear and it was hiding all sorts of serious rot was only a 9 year old Vw scirocco aswell but well beyond economical repair as we looked in different parts we discovered more and more rust ended up breaking it the engine and gearbox became the most valuable parts
I watched this go through at copart had a few bids glad i never won it glad you won it can see its progress and some great content getting it put right..
Yes, good idea to change out the oil and filter before you attempt to start the motor. You may want to put some penetrant in the cylinders before you start it Incase the fuel washed the oil from the rings.
Hi dean Just sold mine great car had it for 5 years dsg model The engine sounds good and would make a great track day car Just need to lower it and put better brakes on it Then you can abuse it has much as you want The engines are bulletproof and a great sound from them
They are a very quiet running engine but youre doing the right thing changing the fluids as you are, give it a good run and i bet itll be fine.it takes alot to hurt those vr engines.
Sounds fine mt! U have been quite lucky ! U bought the Mercedes’ meant to be flood damaged but ok and the golf was hydolocked but got away with it and not even a bent Conrod! Start putting the lottery on mt! Good video again and great to see results mt
Sounded fine to me, I had a mk3 VR6 that had stood for 2 years near identical problems, luckily my Dad still worked for VW at the time so three injectors were "cheap" as was the assistance of a 35 year time served mechanic to assist. The advice was basically it's been stood ages, there is still shit in there and through the exhaust, don't go above 4th gear and blow the forker through . It worked. Those engines are bulletproof, i regret selling mine to this very day.
Very common issue the injectors on mk5 Vr6, you can have them cleaned fairly cheap, i did it on mine when i had this exact issue, engine sounds fine its been bore washed with fuel and you would expect a lower compression. give it a good run with fresh oil, and do the compression test WOT to get the better readings. the reason it ran quiet was because you had the inlet pipe off the MAF on the original start. Build it back up jobs a good id say! nice work!
My idle sounds very similar so nothing to worry about there. The light ticking sound is generally the timing chain guides which is really normal. The miltek system on that car is probably resonated so that’s why it’s quiet
Had a mark 5 and 2 mark 4’s still got a mark 4 . Lot more raw then the mark 5 . This one looks a nice car interning to see how much you out it up for sale
Nice dean was going get one of them but got shot of the r36 and though hmm more practical but pricey. Once finished currant projects a will look to getting 1
