My mate got a CATN Audi S3 2009 for £4000 😂 it only had a smashed back window and slightly bent boot door and the wheels needed aligning. Bargain of the century. Now he can sell it for £9-10K
The Brembo brakes arent actually standard, It should have the same as the Golf R/GTI from factory, With the Litttco intake pipe I would assume its a littco hybrid turbo (Just got that far in the video sorry)
I think you need to lock the shifter with a 4mm Allen key under the shifter gater, once you have locked the gearbox, then you can release the shifter cables.
I have a 2012 A1 2.0 Tdi black edition. It’s just hit 200k miles, I’ve done 150k of them. Rapid as hell for a diesel and so much fun to drive. Wish I had this one though. Great video Dean 👍🏼

I would have changed both lower rear arms due to the horrible rust on the passenger side . If you have the time a few extra coats of paint would prevent or slow future rust
awesome purchase Dean! i almost bought an s1 like this a few months ago but didnt at the end cause s1 audis dont come with an automatic transimission and i didnt want a manual anymore so i got a 1.4 tfsi 190 bhp one! i love the car so much, its such a go kart! immediately fell in love with it!!! mine is max spec possible for an audi a1, damn awesome car!!! cant wait to watch this series of videos!
No wonder my car insurance has gone nearly £150 if they're scrapping cars with so little damage. Hope you sort it out Dean, looks a bit too much power for a car so light though.
Nice car Dean, good choice. I like the look of the S1, esp in 3 door form. It's a good little apprentice to the Urr Quattro. I suppose for authentic purposes it'd be better fitted with the TT RS 5 cylinder power! The original limited edition LHD S1 which differs slightly to your version was launched by Stig Blomquist a ford hero of mine but obvs a great Audi Quattro man and indeed Champion . The car is very nimble and open to lots of mods, but one my favourite fast Audi's. Best wishes. Ben
Last time my car (an Exeo, almost identical engine) did the thing with revs, it wasn't an oxygen sensor or something a computer would point you to, oh no. It turned out to be a stupid plastic oil separator in the crankcase breather system, however it's called. This was after a friend pushed it to 150 km/h in 3rd gear, which is exactly what you were doing with this S1 :) Who knows, maybe yours did the same thing? They make everything out of plastic nowadays, it lives on the engine in high heat, and all that crap becomes brittle and breaks under umm... spirited driving ;) This calls for an honest "they don't make them like they used to"! ;) Also, that time I lost gears 1 and 2 (that was in a León), I had to replace the gearbox ;) I found an episode of Wheeler Dealers about exactly identical problem in an Audi on the same platform ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NHWeJjC2-4Q.html ) but it was cheaper to get a refurbished unit than get an Edd to fix a single stupid fork ;) Thankfully this S1's issue is much simpler :)
What I don't understand is the Cat N. Cat N is uneconomically repairable according to the insurance. So how come auctions are full of these and autotrader has loads of cat N that have been repaired. What the hell is going on ?

@@SavingSalvage yes possibly a helix organic or a paddle clutch to take the extra power as a stock clutch would get shredded with 450bhp if thats what its got
Had 2 of these. Last one had 400hp, little rocket ship. Fit a short shifter and definitely upgrade the clutch. Had a Sachs clutch in the uprated power car and it chewed that one as well so definitely over do it on whatever clutch you choose.
And at 12’50” you show one move why insurance premiums are shooting up. You will be the first to admit that you are not a bodywork specialist but clearly no need to that panel - car should not be an economic write off. Great work though Dean.

Just a question. When you rebuild and fix these vehicles, or when you select them - it seems like any tuning is a good thing. But most people when buying a second hand car will avoid cars that have been altered, because it can indicate that warranties vanish, the car might have been driven hard, the engine and gearbox could have more wear and tare. Is it still the best option to avoid tuned cars? Asking for someone who has barely done any car mechanical work.
If you're the sort of person that can run more than one car, or has plenty of money, then modified cars can be fun..... I'm not. My requirements have always been a car that's comfortable, good on fuel, cheap to buy, run & insure and reliable; so personally, so in my 40 year driving career, always with sub £1,000 Bangers, I've never enquired about or viewed a modified car for the reasons you state
Not forgetting that the insurance increases in price too. Don't understand why tuned cars are put up for auction as the average guy just wants a reliable and cheap car to use. I'd like to see what the demand would be for tickets on a standard car though.

This will be a great car Dean....just a few niggles to sort out. Don't mention insurance companies to me though. My patio doors were damaged during the hot, cold, wet sequences when the underframe collapsed. Will cost nearly 2 grand to fix. Paid 17 years with never a claim. Their conclusion.....act of God, no payout, not a structural part of the property!!! Still, simple write offs mean rich pickings for the like of you Dean. Cheers, Bob
On my MK6 GTI I have the same bent wheel issue, I replaced everything (I mean everything) on the bent side and it still hasn’t fixed it 😂 I think it’s my subframe now. Just something for you to check beforehand.
My guess is that it was sabotaged for insurance payout. My Mazdaspeed 6 had that surging only when in gear with the clutch pressed in. It began after I replaced the clutch pedal switch ...I replaced it again ...no change. I never did fix it.....and then it was totaled by an arsehole.
Absolutely love my S1! So happy it's finally getting some recognition and love - the gearbox hates launches tho - so don't beat yourself up for it 😂 can't wait for the next vid!
I love your videos man! I only drive German cars ( live i the USA ) and Audi is my all time favorite. Currently in a 17 Stage 1 S3. I was hoping maybe you could help out a bit. I have the B&O sound system and my subwoofer just blew. I cant seem to find a new or used one anywhere. Any ideas? Thanks mate!
You’re not very well informed. Standard box in these is the same as similar year Golf R & RS3 which have more torque. The only weakness is the clutch which most owners switch out.

I was looking for one of these. E couple of years ago. I bought then e astra J, and after one year e mk1 Audi tt wich 1.8 225hp these are also fun to drive.
Dean i would check that rear strut it looks slightly bent only a bit but check the video you might see it mate i might be wrong And another great video thanks i always look forward to your videos 👍
