There is something seriously wrong if your lugs keep coming loose. If you have to keep tightening them, what makes you think that once you get past a certain number of times tightening them that they will just all of a sudden stop loosening?
The key to torque wrenches is to set them back to zero after you are done, it stretches the spring in them and it looses its accuracy just a FYI to anyone who doesn't know
Every time you change your oil, change your air filter. If you have a reusable air filter, you have to actually refresh/clean it. That looks like you never cleaned it since you bought it.
check it every oil change. not replace or clean it. what are people smoking now a days. if you only every drove backroads you still wouldnt need to change it every oil change
Filters are cheap. If you do it every time, there is no chance that you think you "did it last time" and forget 4 times and a row and end up like this. Even cheaper if you have the K&N ones, since the recharge kit is $10 and will recharge the filter at least twice.
Alexander Borsi 20 bucks for a recharge kit up here. on top of the 80 for oil and 12 for oil filter. not worth it to throw money away like that. if you use a paper filter blow it out and replace twice a year tops
We are not talking about the price of oil. Strictly about the air filter changing schedule and price of changing it. Don't strawman, man. If you want to talk about the price of oil, do it on it's own. I was merely using the oil change as a time indicator as to when I did air filter maintenance. For me, the SMALL amount of money spend on a recharge kit ($13 on AMZN. I was off by $3) or another disposable paper filter ($15 for my car) is 100% worth it to me, knowing that my air filter is always, always, ALWAYS clean. There's not a single doubt in my mind. No hesitation on it either. I don't ever have to think "Oh hey, is this thing that is happening with my car due to my air filter?" because it literally never is. It cannot be. Ever. Nobody ever had any issues from having too clean of an air filter. Not a single one ever. (Also, as a side note: blowing out paper filters is really not a good idea. The paper media is designed to trap the smallest of particles, which don't really get removed when you blow it out. Not to mention you mess with the filter media, by making larger holes since you are blasting much higher pressure air through the material. But what do I know. I'm just a guy on the Internet. You do what you want. I just cringe at the idea of cleaning a paper filter...)
lol at the people telling you to get a different truck because the air filter got dirty, like any other brand truck just has a permanently clean air filter, i work on a few wreckers and on of them is a 2002 3500 chevy with 6.6 duramax and it made it to 510,000 miles with a very hard life before it blew a head gasket, other than that it has only needed minor stuff and fuel injectors, when i tore the engine down the cylinders still had the cross hatch pattern with zero wear, i had the heads resurfaced, put new injectors in it while i was that far into it and it runs like a top again, the f550 rollback has had 3 complete powerstroke engines replaced under warranty and now only has 200,000 miles, after warranty was up we bullet proofed it but it still has a few problems
guerentee the wheel studs are streached, plus he had all the rotor and caliper on the LR, axle out and he still didn't replace the broken stud. your the most half ass back yard mechanic. I for sure wouldn't call you a technician or car guru by any means.
The lug nuts on the left side loosen because the wheel turns the same direction that loosens the nuts, the right side will tighten the nuts. That is the exact reason why semis have left handed and right handed nuts because there has been more than one trucks who's had the left side tire fall off
Don't worry 3D I had my rear wheels on my jacked up dualy truck with 45 inch tires. The out come was much worse. I actually rolled my truck 7 times. Luckily I had heavy duty roll bars and internal and external roll cage. So the cab was ok. The rest of the truck wasn't in such good shape. Now my truck has been rebuilt. The cost was in the area of 70,000 to 80,000$. I guess you could say I love my 1994 Ford F-350 dualy four door long bed.
has anyone else noticed that after you hear a word that you think is strange you hear it said many times over the following days, or you see a car and see it many times on following days, or anything else like that?
I never liked K&n air filters, they don't catch enough, Pleated paper filter is always the best. Plus, washable filters are only really useful if you have a modded motor.
Dalton all your constant vehicle problems remind me of my youth. I can't help but laugh when I think about what part might fail next. Love your channel and stay safe.
Says he's been spending all of his time on the BMW & 4 wheeler... Were you planning to drive EITHER one of those on this 3,000+ mile trip? Everyone knows that you do basic maintenance BEFORE a long road trip. Next, he'll be on the side of a dark highway crying because the 12 year old serpentine belt broke. Also, with the extra fuel you burned dragging those extra wheels and tires around the country, you could have had them professionally installed in NY, and probably wouldn't have had one fall off on the side of the road.
3dmachines you are the best RU-vid. If been watching you since before your motorcycle being stolen. All the videos since have been the most interesting and funny videos. Besides the video when your wheel feel off
Diesel engines . ..whether it's Volkswagen Jettas or big rigs are all fussy on oil changes , fuel filters and air filters . Regular changes of all 3 items.
King_blah101 exactly he thinks just because he needs acouple news parts and an air filter he thinks he needs a new truck he's dumb, duramax's can go up to 400k miles if there well maintained
hey 3DMachines, as a diesel mechanic i can tell you that sometimes a smaller micron fuel filter can end up starving your pump, ive seen it on several big trucks, something too keep in mind, cheers!
Hey take another chainsaw engine and put it on the drift kart and make it way faster. It will carry you and support you better. Plus it would be another cool series to do till spring.
Clean your Mass airflow sensor next to the air filter box. Lets your vehicle know how much air is coming in so your vehicle knows how much fuel to dump, if it's dirty your vehicle will run lean because it's putting in more air than the sensor can read so it throws off your air/fuel ratio
oh it was the air filter.... my dads duramax has the box type filter cut out and a cone filter on it with 2 scoops in the hood pushing air into the filter, id do a box to cone swap imo.
I have a fix for the symptoms you describe I have done it on 3 of my LLY Duramax's. Locate the EGR motor under the air intake tube it will have 4 screws. Pull the egr motor and you will see a plunger and spring on the motor its self go ahead pull the spring and plunger out and put in your glove box and reinstall the motor and plug the connector back in and put your intake tube back on. Now this may sound funky but unplug you mass air sensor and try to start the truck (eventually it will start) after it starts turn it off plug the sensor back in and clear the codes and restart the truck. In time you will have up to three codes but NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!! And that will fix the random loss of power. And at least in Utah here if there is no check engine light it will pass emissions tests!!
I love the flipped around clips like 9:46 is before he said he was near Ocala then he showed my exit to Wesley chapel keep in the good work Dalton love the vids
Love watching your videos! Love your truck! I live in new york too in the utica area if you know where that is its about an hour east of syracuse. My brother saved up his money to buy a durmax just like yours. I finally saved up to get my first truck a silverado. Once again thank you for the videos we love watching them. Very glad you were okay with the incident with your truck. If you are ever in the utica area let me know and you're more than welcome to come ride four wheelers, gokarts, and snowmobiles up at our house. Thanks for the videos!!! 3DMACHINES!!!!
AARON 2008 I currently own 3 fords and they have been extremely reliable to us over the years. My buddy loves chevy and his truck throws codes left and right multiple problems with it. Same goes with my grandmas chevy. I'll always stick with ford.
If your the truck threw a code and ran a "reduced power" message through the display center it was a fuel or air issue. If you turn the key off for 60 seconds it will reset that code. I had that code all the time after I straight piped and tuned my 08 duramax. Mine was a defueling issue. Things to check would be fuel lines and fuel filter assembly. I didn't watch all the videos from the trip but i know he redid the assembly and had one bad line that he would change when he got home. It is an older truck so it could have been the line. What mine came down to I noticed was I was putting to much of that power service additive in. Power service is really good but once i put less of it in I ran way better with more power. I switched to using Howes but these diesels are pretty picky.
4:22 Driver's side lug nuts will tend to loosen as you drive forward (if not properly torqued). Driver's side lugs used to be left hand threaded because of this.
Hey 3dmachines, my dads 2012 Duramax did the same thing to me when I was pulling a trailer and merging on to the interstate. It ended up being the fuel filter collapsing in on itself. It corrects itself when you turn the truck off but does it easier the next time
Hard to believe that as a guy who talks that much about maintenance, neglects air filter up to a point till it clogs up....You need to change everything at once: oil, oil, fuel, air and interior filters and repeat it after about 10 000 miles.
I have a Harbor Freight (Pittsburgh) torque wrench. I bought it because it had very good reviews, about it's accuracy/consistency in torque. If you're referring to your Drivers Side nuts loosening up, more than your Passenger Side nuts... There is a theory... If you use Reverse Threaded studs and nuts, on the Drivers Side, then the rotation of the wheels will help keep the lug-nuts tight. Vehicles used to have Reverse Thread studs and nuts, on the Drivers Side, up to about 1955.
Yeah man! Literally was driving down this dark road going home, and I saw a bunch of deer before so I was thinking about when my friend hit a deer, and I was wondering was his reaction was like when he hit a deer, then out of nowhere a deer flys out of the bushes straight in front of my truck and I just plow through him. It was the weirdest thing, literally thinking about it as it happened
Once we went to death valley and drove around for a bit and looked at the sites; it was dusty as hell. When we left it was Sunday night at 10:00pm and nothing was opened. The truck would not go above 40mph and the pedal was to the wood. Luckily we had an extra air filter and that was all it was.
Dalton I watch a lot of RU-vidrs from you ,do it with Dan , haggard garage , and gamers like kyrsp33dy, but your videos are the ones I always look forwards too everyday(do it with Dan is also one of my favs) thanks for the great videos everyday
Hello Dalton, my name's Kyle and I just wanted to say I loved you videos. I'm 17 and working on saving up for a Chevy K5 Blazer #SquareBody and I just wanted to know your opinion on the truck. I do plan on making it a mud truck but that's with time and money. and any tips on what to do first when I buy one? thanks and keep up the building videos. and I'm glad you're still here (referring to the wheel falling off)
I have the same thing but it is with doctor appointments. I always think about my doctor like a week before my appointment, even though I never know when I have an appointment.
surprised you didn't do the air and fuel filters when you did the oil change... I'd personally try to service everything in one go like that so it gives you less trouble on long drives...
I don't know if it's the same in the us but in the uk trucks would have right hand threads on one side of the vehicle and left hand threads on the other side. Supposed to stop unwinding on heavy vehicles I imagine.
Hey just a suggestion don't use k&n filters ive seen tons of problems with them at my shop after extend uses the turbo on a diesel sucks to much and it pulls the oils through the filter and that will kill your maf and your turbo not to mention coat your intake with filter grease
I've read a couple articles on air filters in diesels to see if the k and n or cold air intake systems actually make a difference and what I've read is that the best filter for your diesel is the stock paper filter
TheCAFisherman the best air filter for any vehicle is the stock one. k&n filters can actually cause more bad then good if you have a MAF sensor because the oil in the filter coats it.
I hate to say this but your torque wrench was probably the reason your wheel fell of Snap-on on did a test with a harbor fright torque wrench, a Snap-on and also craftsman the craftsman and Snap-on were dead on and the harbor freight was 15 ft lbs off what it was supposed to read
