@@d.minaru7707 cyberpunk isn't copyright as a theme, and I don't call the map cyberpunk. Everything in the map is original work or derived from Halo :) except for slim and husky but that's an easy change.

The double entendre is that "overdrive" is also the name of the blue product on the map being produced in the crime syndicate's apartment (blue base) But nobody will ever know that unless I expand on the concept in future maps! The lore is that the area used to be bussin, but the overpass collapsed, and because it's cyberpunk and resource-wasting, the city just built another one above it. This cut off frequent access to the economy below, leading to halted construction, worn down businesses, and an increase in crime producing a product that's taking... over the drive. You can spot overdrive all over the map, and see the only business thriving is connected to blue base :) And of course, there's an easteregg showing that not everything is as it seems, which I attribute to overdrive "numbing the mind", causing complacency in a simulation that's all too real Not that you asked 👀 but I started with lore before designing the map, as I feel the story can shape the aesthetic rather than the other way around. Makes the map feel more alive

Interesting looking layout and design! It’s amazing what can be done with forge. I have two critiques, though: 1. readability seems a little difficult with the mish-mash of textures and silhouettes. I understand that’s the style. But I think a map like Streets manages to use lighting to unify alot of the shapes. 2. The floors seem a bit bare in a jarring way. Once I walk around the map, that opinion might change, but I noticed it in the interior shots the most. Some sort of rug or walkway mar-cation could help. Not new geometry per say, but something to break it up and look less uniform and blocky. Perhaps even a trim.

I think both of these perceptions will change if you walk around the map yourself! Streets does what every single cyberpunk map in halo has done as well - be night time. For forge maps, it's an excuse to only highlight the areas you detailed, hiding ugly parts in the dark. I wanted to detail everything! For the floors of the apartments, I filled space with "lighting", you can sort of see that in the red base interior more. They're minimalistic and sleek to contrast the outside world. Speaking of the outside world, readability is subtle for sure. But I put a lot of work into making sure the player can easily tell where they are from THEIR perspective, rather than a camera floating in the sky. Finely tuned lighting, materials, themes, and points of interest. With that, the map is quite honestly symmetrical just like Midship. And imo this map has better readability than Midship, which looks the exact same EVERYWHERE haha try standing on either end of the over pass to see how different the two sides of the map are conceptually when you get a chance!

@@RedNomster I think your "place" work was solid. When I meant readability, I didn't mean player orientation, I meant enemy identification, that's all. But perhaps I'm getting old. Alot of the forge maps I played and have seen recently are just difficult for me to get a good and quick "read" on where threats are and can be.

I like that this isn't the typical nightlife vibe we see on a lot of cyberpunk maps (though an alternate night version would be cool). Great job! Btw do you still plan on porting over the Toy Story map?

Yeah I didn't want to use night time and neon overload as a crutch, so now if I do make a night time version it'll look detailed even in the dark! Toy Story is shelved for now until there's a better tool for transferring maps

Red Nom, it seems your great at recreation of environments from other games. Have you thought about any other recreations? I always loved the gears of war Thrashball field, I'd like to see a bigger version of that. I seen a few guys recreated canals, and fuel depot. Shipment from CoD looks great. I always thought that some of Division 2's stronghold areas would be great battlefields in infinite. Have you seen Dying Light 2's quarantine zones? Minus the zombies I'm sure that environment or something similar would mesh well after we all have dealt with the nationwide quarantine hardship. But if you haven't played Dying Light 2, check out a quarantine zone on YT, and I bet you could make something vibrant and spooky like that minus the blood lol. I'm just throwing ideas. The forums are gone... 😢 But this map looks awesome 👍😎 you did it man. Props

The architectura and route design is awesome. I just would have wished some more "punky" surfaces rather then this basar like looking stonewalls. Thanks for your work, hope to play it soon!

When you can take a closer look I think it'll feel more punky. Especially when they contrast and connect to the more "cyber" apartments! The sound design (the trailer is just music) helps sell the cyberpunk city vibe too imo - spent several hours on that specifically for dudes wanting to slowly explore the map. I also got inspiration from tsavo highway, where it is futuristic but not in a neo-tokyo type of way - more 3d printed or resource-wasting. For instance, the overpass broke. The city simply 3d printed a new one and slapped it on top. Hence: Overdrive. :)

Fun fact, the lore I crafted calls that juice "Overdrive" - double entendre for the map name which also comes from the fact that there is traffic driving over a forgotten section of the city :)

Considering it's the first map I've made that's an original IP (cyberpunk as a theme isn't copyright) it's possible! But I'd probably have to make adjustments to make it less rough around the edges

Wait, how did you get the texture fade on game start (looks like some kind of scripted motion of an FX object of some kind, as the same effect is present on the energy doors)? Or smooth fading of light intensity on the doorways (Oh, figured out that this is just a native property of the forerunner barrier fx)? Really wish there was a "read-only" option for copy-protection on forge maps so I could at least see how the sausage is made.

I discovered a trick with rescaling decals! Basically making a white decal massive and arranging it so that it's close to the intro cam. Looking through a decal unrenders textures, but not light, objects or fx. This gives an unrendered effect which plays into the cyberpunk "simulation" theme I was going for. Doing the same thing for the apartment doors gives off the impression that the world/scene outside deloads, just like an actual video game :) and you can't see the massive decal in the sky because decals are invisible from behind. Lots of cool techniques went into this map, plan on releasing a long video Friday breaking down everything!

@@Didact2401 It's actually a rendering method that deloads small objects at a distance - the way around it is to scale the small object deep into the wall. I did that for graffiti and such to avoid object pop-in, but left it for the expressions because the outcome actually fits lol

Forge has a scripting tool called a script brain, I used "Translate object to point" nodes that move each and every object from coords A to coords B. It's a bit more complicated than that because it loops and each "car" has traffic sfx, but still pretty simple

I made them out of various objects to make the map feel unique! There isn't just an "Icecream truck" asset, for instance. That's built using roughly 80 unique objects :) Same for the other cars, the skatepark - the chalk body outline is 40 objects. EVERYTHING haha

Yep! In Halo Infinite, go to the community tab, select popular maps, then search keyword "overdrive". Or, just go to the second page of popular maps to find overdrive! Bookmarking a map makes it so that you can find it more easily when you go to create a custom game. Don't forget to leave a rating 😬

I make Forge maps full time because I'm partnered with an esports org. But I know what you mean; I'm pretty much the only Forger with that situation. If you want to make Halo maps (like me), Forge is incredible. If you just love making maps (also like me), you gotta try fortnite. I'll be dabbling in both!
