I wanted to upgrade my Eurorack case but wasn't seeing an option out there that I really liked so I decided to build my own with wood and acrylic.

No ways! I found this online a while ago. I’ve got two racks held together by cable ties (it works!) 4 rows of 104hp!

I loved your choice of acrylic and wood! I'm sure you know but for anyone else visiting the comments, it's 'moh-g', however there is an artist out there called 'moo-g' that's worth checking out too.

Beautiful build, very nice job! I really like the acrylic colours, they remind me to D&D dice :D The Stomp Box Adapter module seems very interesting. I'll look for it in Europe and, if possible, get a DIY kit.

thanks! it's really great, especially if you already have stomp boxes. i built the kit and it was a really easy build

That's an awesome case build. I'm more into audio mixers than synths, and I think it'd make a pretty nice frame for a small mixing board.

I certainly get not having the $$$ to fill a case with modules. My wife really wanted a synth, so i've been building her one. I'm almost done filling the 2nd bookshelf with modules at this point (about a month in) and with only a couple exceptions every module was a diy build (we did buy an ES-8 so she can hybrid it with VCV Rack, and the oscope is a $20 ali-express module and I just put a panel on it so it would fit in the rack). I couldn't even begin to afford what pre-made eurorack modules cost, but buying parts in bulk from online retailers like tayda I can build a module for around $50-60 (most of the cost is usually pots & jacks). I get a lot of the designs from Look Mum No Computer. Eddy Bergman's site has a lot of stripboard layouts for modules, and of course Music From Outer Space, and yusynth (who designed the Arturia Minibrute!!) have a lot of designs too. Look Mum of course builds in the Kosmo Synth format (metric 5u, 1/4" jacks, large knobs, etc)but if you're stripboarding you could use whatever size things you want. Moritz Klein on youtube has video series about building a simple VCO & VCF. His 3x VCO design was the first stripboard module I built for our synth [although I only did 1x VCO from that], it's a pretty good place to get started.

oh sweet! yeah i definitely want to dabble with building my own. Most of mine have been kits or used. I've gotten some fantastic deals on used gear

I wonder if you can create and 3dprint a drill template from the fusion design. Might also be a good way to line up holes well on both ends. Another fun learning would be to 3dprint outline template for wood and cut on a trim router with flush cut router bit

A mordax data or another module with a display would look so dope in that! I don't know why but I really think the space in the top section having a mini CRT display oscilloscope would be the coolest thing ever but I don't think anyone makes anything like that lol.

the cheapest case is the basic Mastercraft Portable Aluminum Tool Box breifcase you can get 2x 84hp with 1 or 2 1ux84 hp just add rails and a few screws and your done

Looks really good. I can't remember what they are - but thought those black multi button, calculator like, gizmos that are sitting in front of the rack are also related to your music making ventures. I wonder if it would make sense to design/print a rack adapter plate that would allow them to join their friends in their swanky new home.

I’m curious about how you patch your modular! I haven’t seen any videos featuring the big honking button and wonder what drove you to have two of them in your system.
@BlitzCityDIY
@BlitzCityDIY 3 года назад
i might do that as a video at some point but for the honking buttons i view them as really straight forward samplers. 9/10 times i have a snare sound and a bass drum sound loaded onto each one. i've also loaded up a piano scale and setup the code to play them randomly or percussion sounds to be triggered in order. they're really versatile.

@@BlitzCityDIY That’s super interesting. Sounds like that would be a really cool video, would love to see them in action. Everyone’s synth is so unique in little ways and it’s always interesting for me to see the little things that make each system unique! Thanks for the insightful comment, DFTBA!

I finished the build, and I’m really pleased with how it came out. I posted pictures on Thingiverse. Like you, I had the acrylic cut at Ponoko, your DXF files worked perfectly. I used 5.5mm acrylic because I thought it looked better. The wood is maple finished with no stain and tung oil. Thanks again for the design and video. I think sewing is similar to woodworking, but sewing is harder than woodworking from certain point of view, because wood is "self supporting" while fabrics are floppy🤣

Nice work! This is inspiring me to add a similar angled second row for mine, as my current case is full. Of course, as you say, it's better for my wallet if I leave it as-is. What'd you do for your power supply?

@@BlitzCityDIY yeah, then I could laser cut some more blanks. They're fun to make! Would you like some walnut ones or are you good with the 3D printed ones?
@designhappens8157

It's a very nice approach and implementation, but the combination of the specific acrylic base with the wooden parts is a brutal aesthetic crime.
