@elizabethjahr173
@elizabethjahr173 11 месяцев назад
@@cleanclean4031 The therapists on Betterhelp are wonderful. I actually used to work for them and ever other clinician I encountered were great. I certaintly don't begrudge any individual person who wants to use the service or any clinician who chooses to work there. Mental health providers, on the whole, however are really concerned about how they are changing the therapy space in a way that is really harmful to us and our livelihoods. We also know they sell user data to Meta as it is buried in their terms and conditions, which is concerning for privacy. They also have a lot of false advertising. Their ads make it seem like a client will have 24/7 access to their therapist through text, when in reality therapists are not available 24/7 and have to set those expectations/boundaries. They also make it seem like you will be hand matched to the perfect therapist, when it's actually just an algorithm. The pay for therapists is also pretty bad, and super unclear with a strange scale up based on how many hours you work. As a therapist paneled with insurance I get anywhere from 80-90$ for a $45 minute session and my client only pays their copay. For betterhelp I made $30 for a 45 minute session while my client was paying at least $70 but probably more depending on what payment option they chose. So it's more expensive for clients, and clinicians are paid less.

This comment is super old lol, but as someone with ADHD and Bipolar, medication saved my finances. In my early 20s when I was undiagnosed I maxed out a credit card and almost sold my car and financed a new car (as a student). I am extremely lucky that my parents bailed me out of the credit card bill, and that I was medicated shortly after that before I got into more serious debt. I don’t even like to think about where my finances might have ended up without meds. And I know I will 100% never come off of them.

It’s called DYSCALCULIA not Discalcula! 🤦‍♀️ Numbers don’t “swim” a person with dyscalculia has trouble understanding number-based information. Interestingly, my numbers DO ‘swim’. I can balance a checkbook, I can do more complicated math and passed my university statistics courses. I can’t do even the simplest calculations in my head, or remember phone numbers (or other numbers) because the numbers keep changing places (I’d call that ‘swimming’: 12 becomes 21 etc) and my brain just shortcircuits whenever I try to calculate. Math equations take me a loooong time to complete, and I can’t do it without a calculator and a pen and paper. 🤷🏻‍♀️

calling someone's life a "dumpster fire" is pretty harsh, if she's saying she's "bipolar, adhd, dyslexic, dyscalc, has trauma in her background" she's mostly likely struggling with executive functioning, social and cognitive reasoning, amongst a bunch of other neurodivergent tendencies which make basic activities infinitely more difficult for her. Moreover, if she's taking medication for it (which I'm sure she is, because she referenced having a manic episode) that means there's chemicals at work here too, it's not that simple to manage at all, nor is it necessarily her parents' fault. I'm sure it took a lot of strength and courage to put herself online like that but she's so close to going over the edge it's not even funny. And the sad thing is that her breaking point can come from literally any direction: one or more sibling decides to move out or just refuse to pay, her family experiencing issues that she feels obligated to resolve, her car breaks down, she can't build a client base with her "certification", she has a mental breakdown, literally anything will destroy any progress she's made and it doesn't even have to happen to her directly. True! In my experience with similar mental illness it’s easy to get trapped in “well I’ve made it before I can do it again” while also teetering on suicidal ideation 24/7. This makes it impossible to feel the pressure needed to make the huge choices. Truthfully financial security, time to relax, and something grand to live for can make a huge difference in the mindset of people like this. It doesn’t necessarily fix the root of the issue but it provides a comforting nest and a sense of hope and motivation that is otherwise found in negative coping strategies. Medication is a temporary and costly patch on a permanent problem, which can contain the issue but not necessarily provide a comfortable way of living long term. Explore your inner self and make the smart choices.

I think they were both confused because they don’t know how the program actually works. She’s paying a steady monthly payment that goes into a pool while they work on negotiating the debt. They use the money she puts in to pay off those balances once something is negotiated and it also covers legal fees. There’s no total balance listed upfront bc they don’t know what they can negotiate until they do it. It’s not a great program, but it’s also not a terrible one. It can help get out of high amounts of debt. The down side is your credit of course will be f***ed for a while but that’s the least of someone’s worry when they have that much detrimental debt. You can always work on repairing it after the debt is eliminated.

This lady would fit right in with one particular branch of my family tree. I felt like I was listening to one of my cousins: severe learning disabilities, mental health problems, family members overly enmeshed in each other's lives, overly trusting to the point of not knowing when they're being scammed and/or taken advantage of. Then when they try to explain their situation it's really hard to follow. Sadly, it's all familiar to me. That dyslexia/dyscalculia is no joke. If it's severe and/or never properly remediated, the person is going to need help their whole lives to navigate any situation which involves filling out forms, handling money, or dealing with the slightest bureaucratic issue. That's why she lives with her siblings. She can't function on her own.

As a healthcare professional, there is no such static as "the 1% who have awful side efforts." This statement typically comes from someone who suffers with mental health issues. But she "doesn't do tech" as she said in the video and instead wants to use her helplessness as an excuse to try to get everyone to do things for her. She couldn't even log into a website so check the amount, her sister had to do it! I'm sure her reason for abandoning has business and rapidly moving across the country with 0 plan was just as delusional as her "certification" and her mistrust of medical science If holistic medicine actually worked it would just be called medicine

There are people who are highly sensitive to pharma. I for one almost died to multiple pharma in totally different families and have a PCP that prescribes CBD and the devil's weed OVER antipsychotics because of the horrific side effects...like gaining 100 lbs with spiked insulin and an inability to lose weight with high fat storage. More and more doctors are realizing that pharma is not for everyone and if you have a life long history of life threatening side effects, which I suspect she does, that means the medications are proven to not work for you. Yes, she and I could go through every single pharma but by the time we'd find something covered by insurance that might work a little we'd both be dead. So why not use the thing that works for you. At least CBD works for me. I don't know what she's doing, but, try not to be so ignorant. Biochemical sensitivity is a genetic condition and it's very challenging to get proper testing for it. Often times dr's won't preauth that type of testing as you need to have various markers look at so they just work with you on alternative treatments that do work for you. Also, she could have a contraindicating condition like I do and maybe the reason she has such horrific side effects is because of that. Women's endocrine systems are 1000 times more sensitive to pharma than men because our unique hormone structure varies throughout the month. Antipsychotics actually affect your cycle and cortisol levels, insulin resistance and more...and yet, so does our monthly cycle. Regardless if you're on the pill/can be on the pill. Then when you approach menopause you have a whole other thing to deal with. Most of these drugs have been tested on men in their 40s and have no actual scientific factual basis for being prescribed ON WOMEN. And THAT is why my GP does not perscribe them willy nilly and uses them as a last resort.
