If she and her husband are smart, he’ll stay in the military and she’ll keep working and investing. Even with kids, she should work part-time just to max out her retirement accounts. They will retire with a military pension, benefits, and millions in investments. Ka-Ching!

@@genxx2724and she’s disciplined with money. She saved up 8000 for a down payment for a car and they didn’t ask for a down payment? She just paid it anyway. She always pays her credit card on time. Even if she makes questionable decisions sometimes, her overall thinking with money is disciplined and responsible and so as long as she keeps that up she can pretty easily avoid the traps other people on this show fall into and avoid any terrible situation. As long as she builds the habit of saving to have an emergency fund and saving for retirement she should be set for a safe situation, especially if she can continue to increase her income.

@SirStuckey
@SirStuckey Год назад
@awdrifter3394 While it's a bad debt, you can tell the bad part of it was a mistake instead of indulgence. She paid too much because the dealership B.S.'d her based on her already approved loan. She also made the loan time way too long. That sucks, but she's young, and that can happen. Meanwhile, she wanted to put 8k down and got a semi decent interest rate considering she is young and this is probably her first real debt. Considering how many people on this show buy pretty stupid vehicles, I give her extra credit that she was buying a Corolla with the mindset that she wants it to last her a long time.

As a veteran, I’d recommend for her to get a GS job at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. She would get a higher priority in the hiring process since her spouse is Active Duty. If the could live on base housing, I’d recommend that since the housing allowance they give to Active Duty isn’t covering the high rents in those areas. Good luck to them! San Diego is beautiful, and as a phlebotomist, she’d definitely have no problem finding a job. And as a married couple, they’d have a housing allowance. I agree, his score was egregiously low this time. A lot of people who work higher paying jobs than her don’t start until 22-24, depending on when they might finish college, but should those people get a 0 for retirement because they’re a month in to their careers and only have contributed a few hundred to their portfolio? Really doesn’t make sense and his score was very low. His expenditure score of a 0 was also too low. She was literally spending exactly at the 30 in the 50-30-20 rule, so her “BS” spending was not egregious. He only gave her a 0 because she had just a few thousand in savings to act as an E-fund, but if not having an E-fund means you get a 0 for spending then you get two zeros effectively, and defeats the purpose of the spending category. The real estate category makes no sense because it is beyond difficult to own a home at 22 unless you inherit a ton of wealth. So you naturally immediately get a 0 for real estate and his score seems to be that you can get a 10 in real estate if you have rental properties which sounds great for a real estate score but for an overall score not so much since not everyone wants to be a landlord.

She seems like a personality who may enjoy participating in community gardening - different places have different setups, but she may be able to get a small plot for a small annual fee and grow some food to also help offset costs. That's what my husband and I are doing this year (I'm lucky in that my work actually offers the plot, but most likely it will be through local community rather than work). However, I also grew up selling produce at a farmer’s market and grow plants for a living, so it may be more difficult for someone new to gardening.

Another advice is to stop smoking weed at least for the 4 years your husband is in the military, cause they do random vehicle searches at the base gates, and if you only have one car, and they find any bits of weed in the car, he can get in massive trouble even though your the one doing it and not him, same goes for cbd it's 100% 0 tolerance And after he gets out of the military. He can use a va home loan to buy a house

The last question you asked, "what are you actually gonna do knowing yourself?". That is the most important question to ask after all of this. Because I know how hard it is to actually stick to a budget when you have so much stuff going on in your life, as everyone does. While rewarding, it is difficult. I can't imagine a lot of people following through with the complete removal of fun, restaurants, etc. So this is a really good way to have them really think about what's next. Otherwise they'll just say "yeah I'm gonna do it" to whatever you have given as an example. Best of luck to Roy and everyone who has put themselves out there to be help not only their own lives, but everyone watching. And Caleb!

She shouldn’t be responsible to be raising a younger, brother or sister. Sounds like the parents are neglectful and that’s super sad. The money is allocated in her savings account from her dad.
