Get a HIGH FLOW AIR FILTER ALREADY!!!!! If you move to N. CAROLINA the lighter weight and low end TQ. on The Tail of The Dragon will be much more enjoyable!!! Turns are tight and too much power and weight is a liability. Stay safe!!!
I own a MT09 I bought it a couple of weeks ago, and after I purchased it I was wondering about the same MT10 vs MT09. Thank you for the video you put on context, what I was thinking and feeling when I bought the motorcycle. This is my first bike from this type. I jumped from a Stateline 2015 to MT09 2018 😆. I've already purchased the akrapovic exhaust carbon fiber system. Let's see what happens, I'm in love with the MT09 for real, I made a great decision.
I love the MT10 but the milage sucks. You will have to fill up every 120 miles. YAMAHA but a smaller fuel tank on the MT10 VS the R1. About 1.5 gallons smaller.
looks are subjective. comfort is subjective. sounds are subjective. you bought it over the mt-10 because it was the best bike for you... not because the mt-09 is better 👍🏻
As shown in the video, the ergos comparison, the MT-09 is actually a bit more comfortable, more upright. However, you can't go wrong getting either bike. I think Yamaha did awesome with the MT series, the mt-07, mt-09 and mt-10 are all great bikes. However, the mt-07 and mt-10 are due for an update.
CycleCruza the ergo looked like you were more upright on mt-09 but legs more of a right angle on the mt-10 so possibly more comfort there? but either way i agree... yamaha have really done well with this range of bikes... something for everyone depending on what you’re looking for
Had the mt10 for about 3 months now absolute UNIT I personally love the transformer looks of the 1k and that Crossplane sound is a monster you get so much enjoyment just cruising shifting gears and hearing the gurgles and pops from that thing!
DemolitionEagle -Top 10 dont know what the 09 does but the MT-10, like ant liter bike, is THIRSTY. Like i can get better fuel consumption in (very economical) cars even if i tried to hypermile the 10. Youll get about 120 miles before feeling the need to refuel out of 4,5 gallon tank. My average fuel consumption is about 33,6 mpg.
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. Positive thing is from 50 mph to 75 mph the difference is only about 43.5 - 37.9 so 5.6 mph. Cruising at 90 mph burns about 34.6 mpg. So once you get above 50 mph (when you can get into 6th gear) the fuel consumption is a tiny bit better and speed doesnt affect it too much. At 90 mph i would actually get worse fuel consumption from my FZ-07. Also the cruise control helps the economy a lot as you wont feel the need to send it as often. Its fuel consumption is absolutley horrible in 1st to 3rd gear, what you will definitely be limited to up to about 35 mph on a flat road. Also i dont see much change in the fuel consumption depending on riding style. You wont be able to push everything its got on the streets without eventually killing yourself. Guess that consumption is mostly used to crank that large engine, so its a very reliable meh fuel consumption outside of the city.
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. The fuel consumption doesnt bother me too much with a gas price of $6.7 - $7 per gallon so i think youll be fine :)
@@Miguelito0oO I prefer the Yamaha to own but the Yamaha sound is more rock in a can matalic off beat clatter. Still sounds great but the V4 Aprilia motor is just pure ear candy when it's reving hard. Splitting hairs thou. Both amazing and so much more interesting than a inline four with normal firing order. Love my MT10SP. Epic bike.
THE SOUND HAS AN AQUIRED TASTE AND HAS TO GRO ON U. HONESTLY I HATE THE SAOUND OF THE DAMN THING. I have a 2020 R1 and HATED THE SOUND until i prut a two brothers on it.
Bruh, how in the world can you say the MT10 isn’t leaps and bounds above a MT09? I don’t care that you don’t care about $, but stop lying to folks man. I own the the 10, and you said in your video that you don’t even know about the 10 suspension, so you don’t even know it has an R1 suspension. Everyone- please do some research this dude is admittedly full of BS if he doesn’t even understand the massive difference in suspension alone 😆 Source: Best friend owns the 09 and always insists on bike swapping and I hate every second I’m on it but I’m a good friend so I let him ride the better bike (10).
Well having owned my MT10 for 3 1/2 years and having ridden an MT09 of a mate for about 500 miles, I think I can speak, not only for myself but probably many owners of both bikes.................you are so, so wrong and therefore your views on any other bikes are invalid. Just a note: My mate went and changed his MT09 for an MT10 after riding my MT10 and has never regretted it.
CycleCruza the suspension on that bike is a hair above garbage, yet you installed a $2000+ exhaust system on a bike that you seem to just commute with. Seems counterintuitive.
@@AntiPlatitude Then he says he wants to replace the rear suspension another grand +. Problem is, and I do not mean to smak talk, he is not a good enough rider to know what good suspension is. 99.8% of riders do not even adjust their suspension and do perfectly fine.
@Casey R. I agree. I love the middle weight sector and I have my CMRA license. My track bike is a Datonya 675R and my road bike is a Street Triple R. I will admit that I am taxing the hell out of these bikes and will be looking at a liter bike (probably GSXR for track) and the 890 Duke is a serious contender for the street.
Also went for the MT09. It’s light, relatively cheap with a great lively engine. A good base to then mod and make how you want it. Here’s my additions. Turbo kit. GPR Steering damper. EBC pads. Brembo RCS master cylinder. Sergeant seat. MRA screen. Pro taper bars. Rizoma mirrors Lithium battery. ABS switch.
Yes it makes a big difference in power but most noticeably in torque where the triple makes it lower in the rpm. My goal was to have a bike lighter, smaller but with more go than my Gen 1 KTM SDR for short range rides. The acceleration on boost is hard to process especially with traffic. You need to plan what’s ahead! It’s great to have this power in reserve when you want it and it’s addictive but you can also ride around normally off boost. It is expensive but it’s a major mod that makes the bike more special and more fun. If you like to modify, you won’t regret it. Downsides is that you need to spend money on the fueling, brakes, heavier clutch springs, frequent oil changes.....
I got it from Extreme Creations in Australia. They have FB and website with all the details. Currently the boost is set at around 8 psi which is ok for the engine. More boost would require opening the engine to replace rods etc. I have been running this kit for two years and ride it to work and back as my daily. Frequent oil changes are important but only takes half hour to do so no big deal.
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. If you've never ridden an MT09 you don't know what you're missing. Tons of torque off the line. No downshifting looking for power anywhere.
A bunch of us told you (CC) that the MT-series was up your ally years ago. I personally said MT- 07 or a SV650 but you went 09 and that's ok too. The point is, it's the torque and the quick zip and it don't look like a Sport bike to draw attention. It's a CC hooligan stealth machine........period.
Before you talk smack about the mt-10 just make sure you try it first. Just like you talking shit about the 09 and buying it afterwards. I’ve had the 09 and got the 10 and I’m telling you its better in every way besides the gas consumption. Just try the damn bike man before talking smack.
I rode both and got the 10. I couldn't stand the buzzy bars on the 09. The 10 just felt like a much better and more solid bike. Plus that CP4 sounds incredible and the ear to ear grin I had the entire time I was on it was enough to sell me on it. I've had my 10 for about 3 months and I love it
@@butchcassidy9125 straight highway I'm not sure. I'm getting like 100 out so miles between fill ups but it's like 60/40 city/hwy. For the new generation they dropped the rear sprocket by one tooth to give better economy. The on board MPG thing seems to do better at 80mph honestly lol. I'm averaging about 30 over almost 10k miles on my 2019 but I also don't baby it
Honestly, after years of big bikes (Super Duke, Speed Triple, R1), the thought of a cheaper, chill bike (that's still fairly fast) seems incredibly appealing to me. Just don't ride enough these days to justify hanging onto crazy expensive liter bikes that have expensive insurance, when I could have just as much fun on an old cheap MT-09.
It has more grunt/power everywhere.. The mt09 is a fun bike but its nothing special especially if one ever faces the day that they decide to sell.. Good Lord, there are what seems like hundreds of them for sale..
TBR 660 both a little cheap , particularly the stock suspension and can be flighty at speed . I’m heavy and probably exacerbates the issue. Great bike when upgraded
The mt-09 has bad gas mileage now that it's modded, however, I imagine the mt-10 modded is probably worst. Honestly, I don't really need a QS but will probably add the stock one since it's so cheap. Yamaha should have put the QS on the bike standard.

the mt09 0-100 a blast that is all you need a liter bike like your 1000rr you will be temped to do 180 mph no good on street , you can tune out the speed limiter on the 09 but i left mine stock 2.9 0-60 is good nuff do not need to loose my license at 150 mph.i ride back roads short speed bursts
I want a mt 10 now, i have a 07 ZX10R. BUT i want something more comfortable. Im gonna sell my ZX and get a Mt. I want more comfort with the same power as my 10.
Personally I don't see much difference in the looks between an MT-09 and an MT-10. The MT-10 has cruise control, but it gets worse mileage. $4000 difference retail is the biggest reason. I actually got a 17 FZ-07 and it has great power for every day riding. Planning on adding an intake, exhaust, and tuning. I already modded the front suspension which only cost me a quart of fork oil and some time. Rear suspension is coming.
This modded mt-09 eats gas now. I filled up at the beginning of my ride and had 0.6 gal left after a 5 hour ride. You can't go wrong with any of the mt bikes. They're all great street bikes.
Had 2017 mt09, done 16000kms in 2 years. Got 2019 mt10 because it has more quite a bit more power and most importantly stability - done over 30000kms in 2 years. It sort of tells you which one I like more :D Love them both, but mt10 just makes me hard every single time I ride it.
Cant get with a bike that u have to completely mood to make it proper. I have rode both bikes it is leaps in bounds more power in stock form. U can mod anything to make it better. The Mt10 is a much better bike in every way. Lets not even talk about suspension. If you were not looking for all out power why compare the bikes?
@@CycleCruza IKR, Yamaha must have their reasons I guess... I have heard the SP package make a ton of difference though. Maybe something to consider for future project... Re-sale of a full MT-09 SP in the US market would be very much sought after. So worth doing bike would only increase in value 👌
We have it in Europe but too bad it's available only in one color and it looks ugly to me. If they'd make the SP version in full black (with gold forks) I might consider buying it, but the ugly color is a turn off
TzeiEm Exactly, we have the same situation here in Australia. Both the MT-09 and MT-10 are available in SP form, but you are stuck with the ugly blue/silver colour scheme. I think I’ll get a black 09 when the time comes and then upgrade the suspension, slap on an Akra, and get a flash.
I feel like the 10 is just overall better everywhere but honestly do you need more than a 07 or 09 I get that but really just all depends on what you are looking for. My next bike will be an inline 4 or r9 if they make it
Middleweight bikes are perfect on the streets. Gsxs or r 750 mt09 mt07 cbr650 kawasaki versys street triple. ...guzzi roamer ktm 690 so many to pick from
Test rode the MT-09 and Street Triple R. Got the Street Triple. Really recommended you do a test ride on one of those CC! Great sounding triple. It does pull in all gears including 6th. Great finishing details. Just simply amazing to ride. Is it really just the head lights that put you off?
Yep he refuses to get one cause of a fucking headlight. That MT09 is trash compared to the ST. The MT09 is the Toyota Corolla of nakeds -- not that is a bad thing, but it is budget.
The MT-09 throttle is way better now with the flash. I did not get the z900 because I wanted to try to triple engine for change. I've already owned a few inline 4 bikes. The Z900 is a great bike though.
@@CycleCruza I bought a 2017 FZ-09 new and i love it. Nothing sounds like its cross plane triple motor. I'm not even talking about the exhaust, the motor itself sounds great. My puts out a train whistle sound in 6th gear wide open...must be something to do with the air box....
Sold my FZ-09 and bought an MT-10! Best trade ever! The FZ-09 is better if you have low rider skills! I also own a Hayabusa and Two ADV bikes. I have a Tenere 700 and Super Tenere 1200! Mt-10 is by far a better bike then FZ-09! FZ/MT09 Have the worst suspension! Mt10 has full R1 adjustable suspension!
You didn't mention that the MT10 is also super thirsty and gets very poor mileage compared to pretty much any bike. MT09 consumes probably 2/3 of the fuel the the MT10 does.
You lost me at the mt09 looking better than the mt10…. Something about the lower fairing, front fender and head light on the MT10 just do it for me. I want a 10 so bad, I have been back and forth about an MT 09 SP or the MT 10 though. My most common ride would be highway 45 mile commute and after having an R1 pre cross plane (2008) I think I just really want the engine of the MT10 regardless of if the 09 would better in some ways. I will say the clips of you pegging the rev limiter with the new exhaust it sounds great now!
I'm glad i bought the MT10, my buddy has a 09 and its a dope bike for sure, especially for the price. I almost went with a mt09 until i realized it didnt have a quick shifter, cruise, traction and it makes 113 hp vs 165 hp. Its my first brand new bike so i didnt want to settle for the 09 since i plan on keeping the bike for a long long time. But yeah any MT bike is a great bike, my 10 gets about 30mpg which is cheeks but its not about the miles per gallon its about the smiles per gallon. I will say tho the normal supersports still smoke me once we get going like 80 they just keep putting distance on me
I looked at both MT09 and MT10 but went with the MT10 because it's based on better technology all around from the R1. The MT10 suspension is world class and fully adjustible. The MT09 suspension belongs in the trash. Then for what you've paid for Ohlins (or whatever) to fix the MT09, you could have just bought the MT10
I agree that the MT09 is a slightly better looking bike and who doesn’t want a bike that is 40lbs, give or take, lighter. Where the MT shines is from 100 mph on. The 9 starts loosing steam at 100. If you don’t plan on tracking it or whatever 😅, the obvious choice is the 9. With the money you save you can get an exhaust and a reflash and then some.
MT09 is "wheelie machine" in stock form. Why do you tell people they "need" to a get full exaust and ECU flash? They don't; it just adds to your smile and adrenalin rush. MT10 is for people who want one of the most insane naked bikes in production. The SP version has the same electronic suspension the R1 has. It's totally bonkers! I rode an XSR900 last weekend and honestly cant understand why anyone would need more power and torque on the street. I will ill get the old man version in the Tracer 9GT because I love that triple and want wind protection. Speaking of wind management, the MT10 does a much better job in stock form than the MT09. I want to do more touring at this stage, so I considered the MT10, but it really guzzles gas, so that's out. Oh and Aprilia is pronounced Ah-pri-li-ya, not "Apreeya" look it up. I can't belive you owned one but can't pronounce the name properly.
SO! It's OK to mod. the MT09 and it makes a super big difference. But then talk about the MT10 as it being stock. Need to be comparing as both stock or both modified. Personally, I would like to have all 3 of them. (But that would be impractical.) If I was to choose 2. It would probably be the MT07 & MT10. MT07 might be too small for my size though? Maybe not handle highway speeds so well. That's where the MT09 fits in.
Older vid, but I have put 10 hours straight trips on both the FZ09 and MT-10. The comfort complaints you’re giving aren’t true at all. If comfort is a concern, I’m guessing you’re putting in full days in the saddle? If not then it’s a moot point. MT-10 is way more comfortable AND has cruise. And can power wheelie 3rd gear no prob. And sounds better than the Aprillia. These are facts that are undisputed by the Gods.
Highway is out of the talk on nakeds. After 120 km/h the wind makes it not fun. So bottom end wins. Thay Street fighters. So MT10 don't have bottom end like the mt09 so mt09 wins
The only thing that made you decide on the 9 over the 10 was the headlight........ LOL Top end power is one thing, and I wouldnt say us 10 owners are "power hungry" for top end power, I do like the torque delivery. The 10 shits all over the 9 in bottom and mid range torque at same rpm. And the 09's suspension is garbage. By the time you have spent all that cash on flashing, exhaust, suspension and your bling bits, you've spent close to the price of a stock 10 and still doesnt come close to 10. The 09 front end looks like praying mantis stick insect. Shite. We'll see a vid from you in a few months when you upgrade to a 10 haha.
Real reason why cyclecruza ditched the MT 10 - cause it's an UUUUUUUHHHHH--UUUUUHHH--UUUUUUUHHHHHGLY MOTHAFUCKA! Lol I always laugh at this part in his ugliest motorcycles video.
I actually like the robot look of the MT-10. Unfortunately, I can't ride for a few more years because of school. I love listening to it, though. It sounds like it's trying to talk to you.
The headlights are one of the more attractive aspect of the MT 10 Lmao. And how are you gonna claim money isnt an issue and youre rocking a Bell Carbon with a zedici jacket bruv? 😂 Gettin them cycle gear specials cause you dumped your savings into a bike
Straight up the mt10 is ugly AF(imo). I said that the day you brought it home. Yes you are 100% correct the mt109 has that cafe look/stance that I enjoy. The appearance is so much better (IMO). And it's way more than the headlight that is making the mt10 look like it's doing too much.
@CycleCruza Great content as always! I will be purchasing a 2023 MT10 soon. The added weight and size of the bike (I actually like that for highway riding) PLUS the cross-plane motor (that sound!)are the two main factors that helped me decide. At the end of the day, I really love both of these bikes, just incredible machines. Oh, and the looks of the MT10 really did take me some time to get used to (looks like a transformer almost) but it is actually growing on me more and more.
Honnestly the mt-09 2020 and less is dangerous the suspension and frames ar not ment to ride like and idiot curves are degerous only 2021 and more they fix this problem
Idk man.... MT10 is better Imo. Plus with you talking about low end torque is what you care about. Best you can get is the step up MT10. I'm sure the 9 is good but you had to make it your own (all the addons) plus mt10 looks better tbh
CycleCruza I think you made a good decision. That CP 3 engine on the MT09 is a great engine. That is the great thing about the MT bikes, the CP 2, CP 3, and CP 4 all offer a difference experience and a unique sound. As a person that has owned a MT 09 and owns a MT 10 I prefer the MT 10 because the suspension is premium, it is more comfortable for longer rides, and the cruise control. I have several twisty roads in my area and the MT 10 is a great twisty/track bike. But the kind of riding you mostly do the MT 09 power makes it a far better hooligan bike, town bike, ect. The MT 10 does not like slow speeds/low RPMs. Dont get me wrong I ride my MT 10 around town stuff but I am hardly out of first or second gear. It has a tall 1st gear for a naked bike. While I hope some day you get to experience the MT 10 I think for how you want to ride and what you were looking for right now the MT 09 was the better pick. And if you get an MT 10 in the future dont make the mistake I did and sale the MT 09 before hand. I miss my MT 09 simply because it is a different feel from the MT 10. The only problem I had with the MT 09 was the rear shock. Other than that it was a great bike. I should have kept my MT 09, but something you already know and experienced. Not enough room in the garage. Lol Not that I need anymore bikes or another MT 10, but I seen where reports coming out of Japan is that the 2021 MT 10 is getting huge upgrades finally. Looks are pretty much the same but some fairings added around the front half of the engine. Not a lot of details as of yet as to what all has been done to the engine, but it is getting a turbo added to it. Saying 200 BHP now. If that is the case Yamaha will need to give the MT 10 basically the R1 electronics. Yamaha will need to upgrade the master cylinder as well. That is the only problem I have with the MT 10. It is not a radial MC. It is a cheap upgrade and problem solved.
i had 09 but it have bad suspension from factory, you need aftermarket setup to be perfect, Mt-10 has it all, from factory overall its cheaper. what i needed. MT-10 also more planted on twisties.
Sure not leeps and bounts only about 40+ horsepower, no big deal... cmon mna realy? Just say as it is you likes the look better and the power was enough for you. Simple
As someone that had both of those two. I think MT-09 is better for Cycle Cruza because MT-10 is way over his riding capabilites. MT-09 isnt great bike for cornering, while MT-10 is great. This isnt the issue for cycle cruza since he doesnt ride the bike for what its made for. Thata the reason why he complained so much about Tuono(which is still one of the best performance nakedbikes in the world).
MT10SP yes yes yes yes yes yes! MT09 not as stable and no where near as powerful. Plus doesn't sound anyway as good as the CP4 crossplane motor. Nothing wrong with the MT09 however. MT09 is much better on fuel however and. Cheaper to buy.
I love the look of the MT09 and almost bought a 21 SP because of it, but I would never give up my MT-10. The bike slaps midrange and when I want to top end I outpace most class of moto until 160 then the R1' s and GSXR'S catch me.
I didn't think I would like the sound of the triple that much but was surprised at how great it sounds with a full akra exhaust. MT-07 sounds great too, mt-10 as well. All three mt bikes are cool.
The MT09 (FZ09) is played out. Fun but still just a budget bike. It looks cheap. I had the XSR900, it was ok. Very played out on RU-vid. Your other bikes such as the Ducati and Aprilia were much more interesting to watch. This bike is blah now.
After 1 year and a few months i would NOT get an other mt09, front is so light, not so stable at high speeds, lack of power above 100 mph and so on. Mt10 all day long. Dudes a clown.
