Most dead opossums I've come across turned out to be 'playing 'possum!' When I went back to take care of the carcass they had run themselves off. My mum tossed a sad little dead junior possum in a bucket, and when my dad went to take care of it he found a little possum staring up at him, alive and well. I kept waiting for Jill to say she went back and the possum was gone!

We love opossums on our farm. Our chickens are in a predator proof run and coop so they never bother them. They mainly just want the eggs. Opossums are such handy creatures. They can't contract rabies and they eat their weight in ticks. And they help a tiny bit with the mice population that my free loading barn cats are slacking on.

Don't overdo it. My son got his kidney transplant on Thursday. He is already home. Silly boy talks about going to the gym. I told him he needs to give his body time to heal. Funny thing when I was talking to him and he was talking about what he cannot eat, I mention it was nice getting fresh food out of the garden, he says he is not allowed to work in a garden (said not that it matters.) June is so adorable.

When we have to add powders to our horses feed I just splash a little water on it. It usually dampens the nuts up just enough for the powder to stick, so they don't leave it at the bottom of the bowl.

Hi Jill!, Nate, Charlie and JuneyBee. You are so very inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing your family and talents with us You mentioned permaculture and resources. I assume that you know about Justin Rhodes. The Holler Homestead is diving into permaculture too. Side note Jill: I have had multiple surgeries and you remind me of myself and the challenges that I had being a mom and managing my duties. God will get you through this. There is a reason for your current situation. You may not know His reason right away but you ( and your sweet family) will in His time. Be gentle with yourself it really takes a long time to heal. I can totally relate to Junie, doing chores in your nightgown!! I’ve been a lazy girl this past week, going out to the garden and chickens in my nightshirt! 😜 I’m so envious of your planning skills. I have wasted so much money on planners and notebooks trying to make detailed plans for projects. I always default to just make a rough outline in my head and fill in as I go. It’s not the best system I feel. However, I’m always pleasantly surprised when I get results from my haphazard methods!

I have had a very busy month, and my small garden has taken advantage of this by going wild. My fall seedlings which I planted before I went out of town for a week have turned leggy quickly, and the whole garden needs weeding! Just a little downtime can lead to a lot of recovery work. Glad to see you are feeling better!

Get you some diametreous earth (food grade only) and add to your feeds and mix it up well. Its like a daily wormer, kills off parasites, flies, mites, ants, etc. You can dust your coop grounds and your plant tops..it just has to remain dry. You can even dust your chicky babies like I do. (I put that stuff everywhere, even across the roosts and coop floor for chickies) I dont have flies, mites, or even strong coop smell In garden I dont have ants, aphids etc. I dust the tops of plants and bottom ground watering so I don't have to keep reapplying it. Also beckys homestead has more info Glad you are recovering well..make sure you keep rested and remember that nothing is worth your health deteriorating. So take time off when you need it.. Not everything has ro be done 'right now'

I love this video! I’m sorry about the possum, however your sweet puppy took care of it for you! (Although I like possums...that one just got into the wrong place)! The thing I liked most was how June was so careful to take good care of her favorite clothes! She had new shoes on at first and she decided she didn’t want to get them dirty, so I noticed she had gone back inside and put her boots on! Also, she held the skirt of her gown up to make sure it didn’t get soiled or picked on anything! She’s really a “girlie girl”! So sweet, too! The goats are going to be a challenge, it seems. They will make sure the fence is ship-shape! Glad you sold all the piglets except the two you want to keep. (Don’t work too hard; your surgery was only a short time ago)! You have a beautiful farm! Now that fall is almost here you will find it cooler to work outside and to do some fall planting! God bless!

He had just put a vlog out called 12 permaculture principles and how he applies them. He is putting out a series of three vlogs explaining the Principles of Permaculture. This was the second. He is in Ireland but he shows very clearly how to apply the principles in whatever situation you are in wherever you are. 💕💕🌻🌻

Other RU-vid channels I find are good permaculture resources are Milkwood (they also run online courses) and EdibleAcres who have a permaculture nursery. Hope you have a great day! xK
