EA should be banned from touching Star Wars ever again. But also Disney in part should be to blame. Why are they allowing their IP to be treated like this???
I feel like the main problem is that 1. The execs came in business, and 2. The whole of the gaming industry is in a weird place rn where all the executives are too old to have played a lot of video games when they were younger or at least they were too old to really get into them once they became popular/more mainstream. It's caused the ones running the show to have no idea what makes a good game and what doesn't so they just go back and forth between trends. I'm holding onto hope that soon, the current execs get run out of town and a younger, more knowledgeable generation takes over. Edit: It's hard to blame them too much though. I'm not even sure the gaming industry would've stayed as long as it has with big companies making massive, great games if they'd hadn't gone to a more money focused strategy. Just due to the fact of the absolute money pit the industry became at one point. They just wayyyyy over corrected to the point now its gone too far. Still kind-of is a money pit honestly with how much the bigger, greedier studios have jacked to the price of development.
@@larryredenbaugh6854 It’s not even just the video game industry. You can see the same type of behavior at the movie studios (Warner Discovery scrapping fully finished movies like Batgirl). They make goofy decisions and then the employees are forced to take the fall by getting laid off.
kinda pathetic how EA just watches huge successes like palworld and uses that as a reason to cancel their current plans because of the "shift" in player interest and trying to pander to as many people as possible. Why can't they just make a GOOD game rather than focusing so hard on what they think people want? Art isn't about making money, art is about making something that you love that others can appreciate. EA doesn't understand this, as their brains are full of dollar signs and quarterly earnings reports
Except you're just assuming a lot of things. What if the game IS bad? They will shut it down because they are not going to release a bad game or keep spending money on making it. Even AAA stumble and make bad products that their producers have to shut down or else we get things like anthem.
@@jaimeduarte1515 no they don’t that’s cap they have horrible launches but dead space was good last year battlefield 2042 is better then cod right now and survivor thoa has alot of. Issues on pc is a pretty good game
@jaimeduarte1515 man I'm saying what the ideal course of action for a publisher is. But if everything worked out according to plan all the time life would be a lot different
@@projectgg6730 I would agree with you but EA proved multiple times that their games are still mediocre regardless of the "quality control" process... and the people who paid for their games the last 10 years will still pay even if its a total bag of shit so why do they even bother?
what makes it worse is that EA had exclusivity for Star Wars and basically did fuckall with it for years. Now that the license can be given to other studios, stuff just gets canned instead. Star Wars has a lot of potential in video games that keeps getting squandered for no reason
The only decent thing that came out of it was Jedi Fallen Order and subsequently, Jedi Survivor. And that was likely because EA cared so little about some 'crummy little single player game players don't want' they didn't bother interfering with its development.
@@1990hondacivic I know Ubisoft is Ubisoft but even still, I 'want' the game to be good. I want good Star Wars games, ultimately. I'd rather have good games than bad ones.
It's a damn shame that all these companies just care so much about getting ever penny out of our pockets, that if they dont think the game will make billions its no longer worth the effort.
They’re too dumb to realize they can make a shit ton of money. As long as the game is good and fun it’s not that hard. It has happened lots of times already.
guaranteed kickback from tax write-offs V possible monetization drama that snubs the game from its potential like Bfront2@@jesterdewit478 kinda hard to see the clear math here- risk is just as much a money sink as it is a motivator to do well. cause what happens when you see the otherside of the ring is Muhammad ali? youre not winning so even though aggression is how to win youre gonna play defense and just hope you lose without too many injuries. the system needs a labor union. its the devs getting fucked over by the execs just making sure their little numbers are as high as possible./
I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be as a developer to have a game you poured hundreds if not thousands of hours into get cancelled. Not to mention those whose game got cancelled AND they got laid off. I really cannot understand why the Star Wars video game industry (especially multiplayer) is in such a bad spot right now. It’s such a cash cow of an IP that even just a halfway decent MP game would satisfy most fans.
@@TheRohBird1 statictics show otherwise. There's a VERY small portion of people who would want nothing to do with Disney Star Wars and stopped caring about the franchise after the deal. Most of the SW fans only whine and cry but still consume everything that is SW related. There was a lot of negativity towards Force Awakens, but the Rise of Skywalker still grossed 1 billion worldwide. People had two movies before to realise this trilogy is bad but they still went in theatres to watch the final part. Same goes for EA games (or CoD for that matter): you only see and hear hate about it online, but the sales are still over the top year to year. People don't change, - that's a fact.
EA and pretty much every other AAA-studio has proven to prefer making low effort games with maximal possible profit rather than developing highly polished games, which would be unaccecptable for the Star Wars license.
Not so long ago, Nintendo proved us that they were willing to go the extra long route and work with Disney (DISNEY OF ALL THINGS!) and license Sora to put him in Smash Bros Ultimate. And you're telling me that EA is chickening out from Star Wars? Freaking STAR WARS THAT THEY HAD AN AGREEMENT WITH DISNEY!? Damn.
math- all these good largly successful games are looking like world beaters and EA knows it. so tax write off for guaranteed profit over a risky and prolly drowned in controversy game that eas usual monetization has once again taken stage. without labor unions the dev teams will continue to be slashed for quarter profits.
Like something that also bothers me is it's like ever since Disney and EA started making games, they completely neglect and just straight up refuse to make much of anything in the Clone Wars era, which is arguably the most popular and deepest Star Wars source in terms of potential content. Literally they could do what they did in Fallen Order, make a completely original character and clone unit and have you follow them/control them throughout the war. But you know how much EA and Disney love to lose money so it is what it is unfortunately
Honestly not surprised. Frothing at the mouth EA executives gobbled up the exclusive Star Wars gaming license like the greedy fools they are. The result is one in 10 games actually getting released. Thankfully that's over now and this should hopefully be the last disappointment for a while at least.
When it comes to star wars games, you can never be sure anymore that it will come out or not. It makes me very angry that EA or other companies reveal that they are making dozens of star wars games just to learn they basically only have a concept and no actual work they can show then we can wait YEARS just to get a simple "Cancelled" from them. It's very unfair and vary annoying behaviour from the companies and makes me very sad that these companies can't do a very simple thing: Making star wars games :(
will at least we have 6 battlefront games and mod community battlefront 2004 battlefront 2005 battlefront renegade squadron battlefront elite squadron battlefront 2015 battlefront 2017
just the other day i was thinking about Bounty Hunter (Jango Fett) and was wondering why they never revisited that type of Star Wars game considering the more modern push for the Mandalorians. Shame. *edit After writing this comment, I backed out and the first video recommended to me was Bounty Hunter realted.. I see you, RU-vid 👀
When I saw the thumbnail I thought for a second that they cancelled last minute the Battlefront Classics Edition, puuuuuhhh . But seriously that must be a pre mature aprils fools joke with respawn.....
Bro Im pissed along with you! This is going to be the end of me! Star Wars fans can't stop having our balls kicked every time there is a game announced.
EA has no idea. I remember maybe 10 years ago or so, they said that "single player games are not the future of the industry" Then, single-player games made a huge resurgence across the industry as a whole, and EA panicked and course corrected to make some single-player games.
Honestly at this point EA should just reinstate support for battlefront 2015 and Battlefront 2 if they are having trouble creating a new Star Wars game. It would be the least expensive thing they can do…
I thought I read it was 30% Disney takes from the spider man 2 reports. For a 3rd party like EA who also has to pay Steam Xbox PS another 15-30% more. It means every copy they sell 45%-60% goes to license fees and distribution fees. Suddenly your game with 150 million dollar budget has to sell 400 million to make a profit. And these companies aren’t putting 150 million on the line to break even. So realistically they want 600-800 million in profit. Not many games ever do that kinda money. So that would be why this is happening
That sorta makes sense. But why tf are pouring millions into these games, and then cancelling them? Like they're already half done, just finish it and release it
You said it at the beginning, the whole industry is suffering. These studios made a butt load of money during covid. So they grew and expanded, and spent tons of money. Then covid ends and less people are engaging in video games and now these companies can't afford all the investments they made. They also need to lay off all those new employees they hired during covid. There was a bubble in the market and it has popped. Also EA likes to announce games way to early Also I'm like 90% sure EA is saying they believe star wars as a franchise is dying
Fans: "Hey, I'll give you money if you make a good SW video game every once in a while." EA/Disney: "No." Fans: "Aw man, can we get a SW video game in general? Just to see how it is? I'll give you money." EA/Disney: "No." Fans: "Oh wow, can we get a SW video game to live past development?" EA/Disney: " *Definitely no.* "
As evident by the insomniac leaks, I'm willing to bet that Disney just asks too much for its ip that makes it very unprofitable, but that I'm just speculating
Ea just dont care simple as disney dont care and they will never make a battlefront game cuz they destoryed both battlefront games they dont care what people want which is bad
Star Wars has got the worst company in the world (Disney) & used to have the worst publisher in the world (EA). So pathetic by the world's most popular franchise!🤢🤮
Bro fr? I was looking forward to that so much. At least they aren’t canceling the battlefront classic collection, I saw the title and I nearly had a panic attack.
I feel like I must not understand how game development costs actually pan out relative to the development timeline. If the Respawn game had playable demos and levels and was a year out from release, how much of the relative cost to market had already been expended? Is 80% of the cost still outstanding to finish the game (between dev costs / marketing)? I just am having a hard time believing the oppportunity cost of canceling the game vs. seeing it to fruition is really in EA’s favor, but again, I know next to nothing of game development and marketing.
At this point, it's a miracle the Jedi series are even a thing. By EA's recent standards, they shouldn't exist. Even more because of how hostile they are towards Single Player Only games.
Been boycotting EA games since 2017. I know it seems hard to not play games from such a large publisher, but looking back, I've dodged a lot of bullets. Totally worth it. Boycott EA. Let them crumble and sell off their IPs to better publishers / developers.
Thank you i hate this news but with all the copium going around cuz of the battlefront classic collection ppl meed to hear this seen too.many ppl getting their hopes up and need to remember these are the ppl that dont want a battlefront 3 because of sharing 20% of profits to disney
I'm going to bet right now that the KOTOR Remake, SW Eclipse & Amy Hennig's Star Wars games are all cancelled this year. Lucasfilm & these studios are a total disaster now.
You know what a great idea would be for EA to do that involves open-world games, massive communities, and live service? Battlefront with GALACTIC ASSAULT taken to the next level. Make Galactic Assault like a combo of Helldivers 2 and Planetside 2 somehow. Making Galactic Assault where there's only a few main servers that are constantly being played with all online players having to choose a faction ahead of time battling over planets would be so sick imo. Just an idea
Maybe with big reveals and successful releases like Dark Forces and Battlefront Classic, we should be getting more games that take place in the EU/Legends timeline.
Disney allows this to happen because they realized people gonna clap for a cheap HD edition of a 20+ year old game that can charge 30 bucks for, like the new Battlefront edition. That game has been great since the last 10 years or so in pc with all the mods, and you could even play it at 4K for an average of 5$
In my opinion, every game being created should be released. Never give up on a game even if the vision of it drastically changes. These companies don't give a sh*t though.
Dang star wars games are pretty much under post Order 66/dark times era, honestly I haven’t followed star wars games much except for the recent battlefront classic
This game was in early development for 2 years, it probably would've released around the same time the mando movies end up coming out. There's no possible way that a mandalorian focused game wouldn't have been a massive money maker.
Star Wars is probably the most powerful videogame IP you can work with, yet all these companies treat it like it's some second-rate, young, and unknown franchise. Star Wars games reigned supreme during the 2000s because LucasArts had the guts to make games in a variety of genres while also allowing other game studios to create unique titles. Here we are 10+ years later, and the list of canceled Star Wars games is longer than the ones that actually released. So sick of seeing Star Wars treated like this. There's no excuse.
I know that you are literally called BattlefrontUpdates, but honestly what could you expand on to make battlefront III bigger and more interesting than battlefront II (content wise mostly)? I believe most of it won't really justify making a new game for it. Expanding what battlefront II already is seems (or actually seemed, opportunity missed) to be a much better way tbh. But yeah, generally my point is... make more star wars games, but maybe some different, more unique multiplayer experience, rather than the same battlefront formula
If Activision were to do Battlefront 3, I think they wouldn't do any better, maybe even worse tbh like look at the state of Mw3 and their other cod games. They would just focus on ways to make money and leave everything broken like it is currently.
I honestly feel so bad for younger generations who miss out on how great it is to grow up with amazing Star Wars games. Growing up half my library was packed with diverse, and really fun Star Wars games. Today there are like three to pick from. And they are good but I don’t know that any newer games have surpassed the Star Wars games of the 90s and the 2000s.
They tell us people don’t want singleplayer games so they focus on multiplayer. Then they see singleplayer games making record breaking sales and ridiculous money. So they give us a few singleplayer SW games, then they see live service doing well so they ditch singleplayer and start focusing on live service games again. They just keep going full circle chasing the latest trends but never creating them. When will they realise, people just want good games? Singleplayer, multiplayer, live service, looter shooters it doesn’t matter… as long as it’s good.
It’s been a sickening shame at how much EA had wasted their ten year exclusivity to the IP. Wtf is going on with gaming industry dropping all these workers? Something stinks.
I think the worst part is that bob iger even invested into Star Wars like a billion but into Fortnite which isn’t what most fans want . Outlaws seems interesting will pick it up after the price goes substantially down cause I’m not to excited for it or maybe see the reviews
Lucasfilm Games is already a complete failure. They need to create their own AAA development studio just for Star Wars games cause everything else is a sh*t show.
Another title that has some potential is Star Wars Hunters, I know it has been delayed constantly for the past 3 years now but it has made a lot of progress and shown promise for a great Star Wars mobile shooter game. Hopefully with it’s release this year it will help bring in people for a new Star Wars experience.
It got cancelled probably because it didn't have lightsabers in it, just like how Amy Henning's Star Wars game got cancelled but Jedi Survivor got green-lit.
Battlefront 2 is still my favorite game ever, and even that game had support cut off way too early. When I grew up, so many Star Wars games were among the best out there… now it’s just a shame.
Something that I never understood is why aren’t there more Star Wars, Harry Potter, lord of the rings , marvel games I know there have been a couple but honestly with such big franchises I expected more
Its honestly just sad at this point that nobody in the executive groups seems to realize that the best and most consistent way to make big bucks in the gaming industry is to stop chasing trends, and be creative, build trust with your audience, and RELEASE FINISHED GAMES.
To quote Dennis. "If only we released BF2 without the lootboxes" Thats all they have to do to make bank. Release an updated BF3 with no lootboxes. Done easy $$$$$$.
It’s honestly corporate greed. All these big game companies are owned by shareholders who don’t care about the game industry at all, only filling their pockets. Pal-world kind of proves that point as it became one of the most played games in the matter of days all while being produced by a small studio that actually cared about the product. Not coming at the devs at big companies because I’m almost certain they get underpaid and pushed too meet unrealistic dead lines, and also follow creative guidelines. I think our only hope is that this new Star Wars gaming industry backfires so hard they give a small studio that will do it justice the IP. A man can dream. A man can dream.
I have a feeling the reason Disney may have rereleased the old Battlefronts is to test and see if the Battlefront online community is still as big as it looks and then maybe they’ll prioritise on making a new one, maybe from a different company.
I wouldn't hold your breath on Outlaws. The entertainment industry can write off projects as R&D for tax purposes to take advantage of tax credits if the higher-ups feel it won't be worth completing. Advertising budgets are pretty massive.
I really do think that Disney should just strip them from all their Star Wars titles and take them for themselves, Disney could just give it to a company that would actually develop and maybe add what players really want.
At least EA no longer has exclusivity over Star Wars... yay. LucasArts needs to give every other developer a chance, which is NOT named Electronic Arts! 😑
Don’t worry man, it should be okay. EA has fumbled the license ever since they got it and I’m glad they won’t be making many more Star Wars games. They don’t deserve to. Don’t forget they lost their exclusivity. So we will have Ubisoft and Epic games, with lucasfilms huge investment, etc pumping out games in the future.
It's not the IP, it's the people making these things. I'm tired of big companies giving up on projects because of their failures and then blaming it on the IP when the reason they fail is because they aren't being creative enough, they're just thinking about money and rushing things, despite forgetting the important part. All these projects releasing from Disney, Warner Bros, EA, Ubisoft, whatever.. has so much potential, but they completely ignore it for fan-service, live-service, money.
Just a small reminder that for the last decade EA have had the rights to The Simpsons and have done literally nothing with it but update a mobile game.
Its almost like Disney shouldn't have closed down LucasFilm Games as their first action when they brought the Star Wars IP. Because we are suffering as gamers with the lack of games.
I’ve been an Overwatch player, a Finals player, and an Apex player since battlefront 2. None of these games or communities come close to what we had with BF2 and the team behind it. How is this not clear: MAKE BF3
Right now the gaming community has been backing more indie styled games and are less supportive of the AAA games. we have had several games released that havent been made from an AAA studio that are highly played vs the AAA that arent getting a lot of traction. the AAA companies are starting to notice and now are more rethinking how to do that.
It's really sad. Recently I just watched some killstreaks from Battlefront 2, just to feel the vibe a bit. Usually I'm more the singleplayer kind of guy but this game was much fun, once they fixed the disasters. DICE did a great job imo.
Still kills me they cut support for Battlefront II when it had so much potential. If the issue was that it wasn’t making money, sell skins in a storefront. All of the heroes and villains in the game could’ve easy each had at least 2 or 3 skins. Just crazy they gave up support to go work on Battlefield 2042 when that game turned out to be a steaming pile of bantha shit.
This industry is being absolutely crippled rn. I don't think we are ready for how many half arsed, half finished, CEO-pleaser games are gonna come out the next ~5 years. Let alone all the cancellations.
Dont worry you guys . Im gonna grow my own game dev business and blowout the competition by getting Disney star wars license to help make the best star wars battlefront 3 game ever 👌
And where tf is Titanfall 3? Everyone knows that apex legends is in the Titanfall universe, so why not expand on that franchise and make a 3rd Titanfall?
The severe lack of Star Wars games can definitely be attributed to Disney’s dumbass decision to give EA exclusive rights over the Star Wars license. If Disney had simply given the license to multiple publishers instead we would more than likely be swimming in Star Wars games by now. SW Outlaws is the first major SW game to not be published by EA in over a decade, but other non-EA Star Wars are still years off because they more than likely didn’t enter development until at least 2022 when the license exclusivity ended.
I know, why does EA even bother to announce new Star Wars games? I'd rather silence than these disappointments. I'm so numb to them now I actually find them more funny than disappointing.
There should be a case study on DICE and its poisoning from EA. From 2013 - 2018, the Battlefield games were awesome and solid games, and for a time I did not even care for any Call of Duty games. Yes, the Battlefront games were not as good, but I blame EA more than DICE. Around the same time as the first Battlefront game, you could see that EA was getting more involved with DICE. I say let DICE cook without interference!
I wasn't that enthused by this game to be honest. I was looking for Battlefront III, but in more of the 2005 Battlefront II style, not the 2017 Battlefield style, and definitely not like Hunters (Star Wars Fortnite). The idea of EA having an exclusive license on Star Wars is horrible though. Listening to Iger's corporate nonsense on everything Disney is also frustrating.
They could've just put a battle pass in battlefront 2, with skins and maybe a new hero every once in a while, and people would've bought that every single month like clockwork and loved it
It's just EA. They make out of touch dumb decisions like this and change their stuff all time the time. Everyone has been roasting them since Battlefield 4's disasterous launch in like 2012 at least
Businesses do not care about art. At all. All they care about is money and they'd rather pump out cheap crappy games than actually invest resources in the games. This is also why they're laying off so many developers. They cut costs wherever they can. If they could save a single cent by sawing their arms off they'd do it.
I literally need to stop getting excited over Star Wars games UNTIL we see a trailer and a SET release date. It’s ridiculous how many Star Wars games we NEVER got! And NEVER will!
The fact that Ea still carries out with this logic even after the most forgetable launch that was Imortals of aveum wich was a $125 million dollar game which sold like 1000 copies total, and nobody even knows about, released last fall,
EA knows starwars fans will fight back against their aggressive monetization schemes, and so they dont wanna make more star wars games they can't overly monetize.
