8:53 Fun fact, this one very talented mocist called Ransom Fern completely redesigned the terrible UCS Hulkbuster & made it 100% movie accurate with more articulation than the original while only using parts found in that original set. Now that’s impressive!
I'm really glad to hear that! That's honestly one of the reasons this channel was created - a way for people to escape the drama and negativity in the LEGO RU-vid space and just have some fun and relive some good memories. :)
@@CheeseyStudiosThat’s why I subscribed to this channel as well as other channels like Nick on Planet Ripple, Brick Legends, & Robrick. They offer something different & unique compared to the normal set reviews or leaks I see everywhere else.
A better-looking version from the 2016 I agree. Great colors and figs but the size of it will make it difficult to display or even use in a city unless you have the space. Great video and job..
I’m not a massive Disney princess fan, but this set appeals to me. I 100% agree that it looks more beautiful than the Lion Knight’s Castle, but the gray just appeals to me as a fan of history. Also, I have and love the UCS AT-AT even though it is so gray.
My younger sister has both of the existing Disney Castles, the smaller one and the previous large one, and I have to say, while that other one was quite impressive, I think this one is MUCH nicer. The Sand Blue + Light Nougat combo is just so pleasing to look at, and I think the assortment of minis in this set is better too. I know she's excited for this set, and I'm excited for the cool new recolors. Also that Rapunzel mini is really cool, definetly my personal favorite.
It is cool that this set will of course appeal to the Disney fans, but also to parts lovers too! And though it's absurdly expensive, you do get a lot of parts for your money which is nice.
I love your honesty! The fact that you look at this castle for parts usage makes me chuckle. I have begun to look at sets that way more and more. I like a good Friends set for the colors alone! Thanks for keeping it real. 😊
Maybe its the 90s kid in me, but even as a gag - those few micro seconds of Disney opening before your opening made my inner five year old self give you serious playground cred. So cool!!
It was awesome to see your builds at Brickworld a few days ago!! Unfortunately missed you and saw you at the end just when rushing to Uber lol but thanks for bringing your work and making all these great videos! Going to try to check out some more conventions in UK now since that was really cool :D
Great review caleb, I'm absolutely picking this set up as my first over 200 lego purchase, but it does tare me up their is no Belle and beast/ Adam in this set. I would love a build video on how to do the scenery and moat that's around the actual castle
One thing that I like about this castle compared to the other one is how the color palette feels more vivid and bright somewhat. Almost like it's more magical. But idk thanks for showing it to us and have fun piecing out these juicy pieces.
I found out something pretty interesting about the 100 anniversary disney casting, it also gose along with the 100 anniversary Disney minifigure series. All the little references are ment to be filled with the mini figures form the series, for example the Pocahontas mini figure has a spot on the right side outside the castle
As a lego fan those light nougat parts are so interesting and versatile. I through that the original set was a good set to part out but this set has so many more new and useful pieces. Masonry bricks in a new color are great and we always love the sand blue. Another great video i was a little surprised when i first saw the thumbnail I was confused as I would never see this set as one you per say would pick up but this is a certainty wonderful set
Oh my gosh I said light Nougat! I am so sorry for this horrible horrible mistake and at Cheesey Studios 😅😂 ( I also just made a lego color chart/ timeline a month ago so this hurts just that little bit extra)
It looks amazing, and how you got to review the set first out of anyone else made it feel like I want to get it now, you did a great job reviewing this mammoth. Btw i'm not a new viewer to this channel i'm actually SilverStorm but i changed my name just thought i'd put that out there.
The castle color change is because of the irl repaint of the castle for the WDW 50th anniversary. Like how they brought back the Disney references like in the old castle. Only thing missing from this set is the statue of Walt Disney/Mickey at the front
A very good looking Easter egg castle. I'd love to get this for my daughter but the playability isn't there. Oh man though, to have those parts! Great review!
I will agree that this is much better looking than lion knights castle, but you have to look at the sheer quantity of the stuff you get which is why I think lion knights castle is better. (just my meaningless opinion)
I happen to agree with your opinion - that makes two meaningless opinions, and that's a beautiful thing :,) I am convinced we're right though. Lion Knights' is just a more fun set
The build is amazing but the minifigures are SEVERELY lacking. There are so many Disney princesses and it would have been awesome if it came with like 14 minifigures and you had places to display all of them, even if it drove the price up.
I mean that's kind of the nature of the disney castle, it's more of a symbol and a beautiful backdrop than an actual place, so beyond that and the vignets from the various movies there's very little to really explore in it. Meanwhile the Lion Knight's castle is its own thing, it has its own narrative which makes it much more fun to experience 'cause it's designed around that aspect...
I was never big on the old set. This one is definitely improved, but idk if I’ll pick it up with all the other great sets coming out this year. $400 is a good chunk of change… still better than the hulk buster, though.
I remember when I was five, my mother and I built this in the span of three days. And when we finished it, my mother left the room for a minute to get her phone so she could take a picture. I remember specifically setting off one of those functional fireworks, you know the little pieces that launch studs? Yeah, well I set one of those off, AND THE WHOLE THING CAME CRASHING DOWN. Three days of our work, gone in an instant
Beautiful Castle ❤️❤️ I am a huge Disney fan and trying to build a Disneyland with Lego.. of course this castle fits so well to my collection… although I need of course more sets to complete the Disneyland
I don't like, that Lego rebuild older sets every few years. Do we realy need two different Disney Castle or two Death Stars. This one is very beautiful, but something new from Disney could also get some love. For example a display piece of the Tangled tower.
Overall I'm very impressed with it. The only turnoff for me is the incomplete looking blue plates at the front. It wouldn't be hard to finish off with PAB but if they were going to add those transblue pieces they should have tied it all back to the green spaces.
man all i can imagine is anyone who got the previous castle must be fuming right now, it is a really nice looking set though, much nicer than the previous version, although im not the biggest disney fan so im not sure how much credibility i have. what i do know is that i would love to see you actually destory the set and put all those hours to shame XD, awesome review though as always
I'm very curious to hear what owners of the previous castle do think. The Disney fans will hate me for parting it out, but the piece selection is just irresistible (also I have no place to store this ridiculously massive model lol)
I have nostalgia for neither Lego Castle, nor classic Disney. I prefer the Lion Knights castle. It looks better, as a castle. The Disney Castle is essentially just art.
I prefer the lion nights castle looks wise and I'm not old enough to have early 1990s nostalgia. Great video and love the Minecraft videos on the channel.
Well , I guess it is good to know you don't intend to "destroy " it any time soon !! Thats a good thing . As for the new Disney Castle , I truly love the color scheme and since I held off on the last one , this is heading to be a ' wait in line ' purchase . I like the historical aspect on the 90th Anv. Lion Knights Castle and I have that as well . I think they will complement each other in there own way. Thanks for the review , Dreamer
The castle looks nice, but I'm not a fan on medieval stuff. I'm waiting for the day LEGO release a minifigure-compatible non-Ninjago Japanese Castle (since I'm more into Sengoku Era related stuff). However, THAT Flynn Ryder figure... It's great, in my opinion. If Mulan is my favorite Disney princess, Flynn Ryder is my favorite Disney (almost) prince. Tangled was probably the first movie I saw with friends for one of my birthdays, so I have a special place in my heart for that movie.
I personally like the lion knights castle more than this castle, but that's definitely in part due to me not being a Disney fan. I think the fanciness of this castle is perfectly accurate for what it's depicting, don't get me wrong!! But I feel it doesn't capture the essence of a general castle as well, since they're often austere and dense by design. No hate to this set at all, it's beautiful, but I love the genuine medieval feeling of the LKC!
I am a lego castle fan, but I will not be getting any of the big expensive castles, as I don’t have the budget nor the space to display them. Gotta be more mindful of what I buy after that price hike and getting a new apartment
Yeah, completely understandable. There really is no good place to put something this big. Even if I did like it enough to keep it intact I couldn't xD It's just way too big! I'm sure Lion Knights' Castle is the same way, though not as tall.
I adore the colors on this one, feels very beauty and the beast to me for some reasons, though not sure which I'd pick if I had to. I like both I adore the lego Knights Castle but yea this Castle is more beautiful but I'd prob still pick the Lion Knights one just because it's more where I'm at
1. Price per part? Omg yes?!? 2. I saw a cooler Disney castle at BrickWorld lol 3. Where is Flynn’s frying pan?? And 4. All of those gold pieces 🤩 (This is a reposted comment. It had some funky typos and errors but trying to edit it made it go haywire 😅)
For a 400$ 5000 peice set, it should be closed up on the back, but you'll be able to open in it like the lion knites castle. Lion knights castle definitely wins. Even though this one is more assteticly pleasing, it just doesn't justify the back being completely open.
Not gonna lie, I'm pretty salty about this set. I rushed out to buy the old when I heard it was retiring. Only to find out it wouldn't be Aurora's Castle, but an improvement to the old one. And it is obviously not worth it to buy the new and have two. Also, the 2023 nano scale Hogwarts is the best castle.
Your title made me chuckle haha I own the 2016 Disney castle. Based on minifigs alone, I love the Disney princesses and prince minifigs more from this 2023 set. But I personally like the 2016 Disney castle itself more for a number of reasons: 1. the colour scheme of the castle looks more pleasant, calm and elegant to my eyes. I dislike all the gold parts in the 2023 set, it’s too much imo. Also feel the light pink doesn’t match with the gold, it’s jarring to me. If it was a much lighter pink colour, it would’ve worked even better. Or maybe if the gold colour was more muted, then it would’ve worked better with the pink. The 2023 colour scheme looks more playset compared to 2016 which looks more adult (or u could say boring lol). I guess I prefer a much more muted look of the castle. ps the colour is of no fault of the designers, I know they’re just following the 50th anni version. 2. Although I do like the rotating dance floor in 2023, I much prefer the special floor tiles design in the 2016 set (the colour and design of the tiles looks more elegant). I really like the princess panels in the 2023 set though. 3. To me, the 2016 bedroom somehow looks more finished? I prefer the colour combos in 2016 rooms and the Disney stories are more evenly distributed in each room separately. There are also some nicer builds in the 2016 set such as the grandfathers clock, sleeping beauty’s spindle, guard statues, bed. In the 2023 set, I particularly dislike moana,Aladdin, belle’s bookcase & rose dome in the same small room, would’ve much preferred they each got their own room. But I get it there’s not much space available. I prefer Cinderella’s kitchen compared to B&TB’s kitchen, could’ve put Mrs. Potts and Chip in the dining room with Lumiere. 4. I prefer the 2016 front base more, looks more rounded and finished. I don’t really like the unfinished look of the water plate of the 2023 set, especially when viewed from the front (it looks ok when viewed from the top). They dedicated 2.5 rooms for Beauty & the Beast but no Belle and Beast minifigs. But I hope it’s coming in a smaller set, just like the leaked Peter Pan diorama set. Having said that, there are also many other elements of 2023 set that I really like, eg. the front door with drape, Cinderella’s printed glass slipper tile, printed Mickey drawing, tangled room. I guess for people who don’t already own the 2016 set, it makes sense to get the 2023 set just for the minifigs alone, as well as more Disney references compared to the 2016 set. I would’ve preferred they made Paris Disneyland or Shanghai Disneyland set though. Those are beautiful Disney castles too.
I appreciate you laying out your arguments like this! Too many other comments have just said "2016 bEtTEr" so it's great to see some perspective behind that!
This is a great looking castle, but it's a fairy-tale style, romantic castle. It is built for beauty, not for defense. I like the look of the romantic style, but my heart is sold on the heavily built fortified versions. Also, I boycot Disney, so even if I loved this set, I wouldn't buy it because of the boycot. Still a great set to look at and I love the review about a set I missed, I've only seen a few pictures while browsing the Lego website. And man, those Sand Blue modified brick pieces ... 🤩
@@CheeseyStudios I definitly have! I wished I wasn't building an amusement park so I could afford this, because this set is absolutely stunning! (Btw do you know if there is anywhere I can get, preferably the light gray 48x48 ones, baseplates a bit much cheaper? They are incredably expensive because I need 17 of them)
I do love this design, but I'm disappointed that there are four other distinct Disney castles around the world, and they did the Disney World one again. There's LITERALLY a castle - that's stunning and huge - in Shanghai called "Enchanted Storybook Castle" that is an homage to all the princesses. Why not do that one?
Cheesy, if you didn't know, defect LEGO bricks (Legos with misprints, deformed molds, mis-coloration, etc...) are worth a lot. So if truly one of your figures has a mis-coloration, then you have something pretty valuable collector-wise right there. Though if you want to look more into it, there is a whole video on it out there on defect Legos and all that. But to put it in summary, defect Legos are worth a lot because they are one-of-a-kind brick that somehow has managed to bypass Lego's extensive Q&A which has only gotten better and better with time.
That is a rather fun side of the hobby which I'd love to get into but just can't justify. I do hope I get a bonkers mis-print in a set one day lol. I've gotten a single short shot from 2004, and a completely flatted 1x1 tile in 2009. Unfortunately, this Tiana print is really quite unremarkable as the ink is just slightly less vibrant in one of the figures RIP
Only $400 for that piece count! That’s pretty good. But when talking about money I have in real life, maybe not lol Also that channel guidelines thing is new- neat!
Speaking of set info in instructions, dont you think designers should have their name put SOMEWHERE in ALL instructions for sets they design? Like I know kids dont want to read 5-10 whole pages of "about the set and its designers" at the beginning of the instructions. But I feel they could at least put like a small credits list somewhere like "designed by _______, ________, _______. Graphics by: _________, __________." I just feel like designers should have a little more credit for what they spill weeks of their time into. Or maybe Im missing something and they just dont want to be recognized.
I can understand why they wouldn't want every set to have their name attached to it, especially Star Wars designers who have been verbally attacked for the smallest inaccuracies in the past. :/
hey you may remember me commenting about making the whole hogwarts castle well you said you dont have all the sets but you only need the lego harry potter sets of 2022-2023
I really like this set, but I don't believe its new colors and figures justify buying another Disney castle. I also think the old one complements the train and station better. The older version is also based on the Disney castle prior to the 2020 repaint which is rather nostalgic to me because that's the castle I grew up knowing and loving. Great video!
Interesting! I didn't realize there was a repaint of the actual castle. That helps make more sense as to why the original set is colored the way it is.
