In the vast expanse of the Atlantic, where countless stories and secrets are hidden beneath the waves, we've encountered a rarity that's stirred the local fishing communities and sparked excitement far and wide-a tagged lobster, also known as a "lottery lobster" in Maine. These tagged crustaceans are not just a curiosity; they're part of a broader research effort to understand migration, growth, and behavior patterns of lobsters. But there's a twist-they can be worth up to $4,500, making every catch a potential jackpot.
For the past two months, we've been on a mission, not just to uncover the value of our catch but to connect with the minds behind the tagging. Despite the challenges, the power of social media has bridged the gap between sea and shore, leading us to the research group responsible for this tagged wonder.
Join us in this video as we unravel the mystery of our lottery lobster. The revelations are nothing short of astonishing, offering insights not just into the life of one lobster, but also into the intricate dance of marine science and the fishing community's role in it. We're blown away by the journey of this lobster, and we're eager to share with you the incredible story of where it came from and the significance of its journey.
This tale is a testament to the unexpected surprises the sea holds and the profound connections that fishing fosters between us and the marine world. It's a story of patience, perseverance, and the surprising ways our lives intertwine with the creatures of the deep.
So, set sail with us on this revealing adventure, and let's dive into the mystery together. Remember to like, share, and subscribe for more stories from the sea that bring us closer to understanding the world beneath the waves.

Wow how ironic that I watched part 1 again just last night and wondered if there would finally be an update so to have this surprisingly pop up today is great . Funny how the popularity of this channel helped Jacob get the right information and learn about the lobster and the tracking program. Glad to know that even if there wasn't a financial reward for the lobster there still was important value to it in the knowledge the study gained....like knowing a lobster could migrate that far out of its origin area.

Believe she is right about the temperature changes effecting the lobsters. I used to do recreational lobstering around Cape Cod. Due to the whales I could only put my traps in late May My traps where in 14 feet of water. During the spring, summer and early fall my catch was mostly of mostly keepers and a ton of shorts. But in the middle of October the winds shift to the North or Northeast which pushes cooler water on shore. When the cooler water would come in I would start seeing larger lobsters with shell lengths of 5 inches or more. Most of which where eggers. Which I would notch them and let them go.

I know you had made the Florida lobster series, because of the clarity of the water and I both fished commercial in the Keys and dove as well we used to see long lines of lobster thousands traveling the bottom heading to where ever they go,if you were lucky enough to have some traps in that line they would be packed.

Oh wow this is SO cool! And DAMN that lobster took a long walk! I almost wonder if it wasn't picked up and dropped somewhere but you never know. They are tough, resilient creatures and may very well have walked/swam or hitched a ride on currents. Awesome info. He's a picky eater right now, but I'm hoping to take him to try a whole lobster sometime when he's more into eating. You have littles, so I'm sure you understand how odd they can get over food. He's on a noodle/ greenbean and cooked carrots binge lately, lol. It cracks me up he loves cooked carrots, and I can't get many adults to eat cooked carrots 🤣

This was an awesome video. Most people wouldn't of cared and just sold that lobster to make money. I think what you did was amazing and I have nothing against the lobster industry as I love eating them but those lobsters should be protected. It could give valuable data that could help the fishery in the long run. I'm so glad you ended up notching that lobster so that no one else could catch it. I hope one day maybe we could see that lobster much, much bigger and see where it's been. You're a great guy and putting that particular lobster back in the name of science was absolutely the right call. Well done!

That’s really, really cool! Tagging studies, especially for long-term data, are very interesting. I’ve been volunteering on a long-term migratory bird banding project. We have had a lot of return breeding or wintering birds that we see multiple years in a row. Our birds have been caught or “recovered” in a lot of places as well, including a hawk that was found in West Virginia (we band in New Mexico), and a Mourning Dove that was hunted in Mexico. As well, we caught two sparrows that had just been banded two months prior in Fairbanks, Alaska, and a MacGillivray’s Warbler that had been banded a year and a half before in Montana. It’s crazy how far animals can travel!
