I guess you just get used to your way of working.. even tho I see people adopt different photography techniques, I'm just so used to 'my way'..
I hope you enjoyed the video! Do check out my F/8 street photography magazine here:

In this video, I meet up with good friend Dan James for a sunrise photography shoot down the very lovely Mumbles lighthouse, in the Gower South Wales..
tho I felt very nervous, even somewhat lost as to what to look for and how to take a seascape photograph. I did stumble across a shot that I was pleased with.. in this video I discuss two different photography techniques that id never used before, but they allowed me to get more from my photography and my camera. - I hope you enjoy the vlog :-)

Great video Gareth.... I don't see any cheating here.... I don't use GND for a long time.... in seascapes, I'm doing exposure to the sky and exposure to the foreground and bland in PS.... GND is a waste of time, you need to have a straight horizon to use it and you can always add GND in LR so way to waste time on it in the field..😃.... just make sure you capture all the dynamic range...

Fairly typical landscape exposure and focus stacking techniques but nice to see it demonstrated so well. BTW, the seventh wave is a folklore myth with no scientific basis. Study your chaos theory 😂. Thanks for a well made video.

@@GarethDanks My son and oldest daughter feel strongly about getting a great shot "as is" and I always hope to do the same, but I am tempted with all the Adobe features I pay for to use them for my benefit from time to time. My landscape photography is a struggle, but my street shots typical don't need much editing other than some fine tuning and cropping. This topic is much like the acoustic guitar player who sees a lot of what players on electric do with countless effects and loud amplifiers as "cheating". I find acoustic players to be a bit more gifted, for they bring out the very best that is in the instrument alone.

Love your videos and I’m a subscriber. I must confess for me being across the pond in America, it’s difficult to follow as you talk a bit fast for me to follow. Maybe it’s a Welsh thing, as those words can be very long! LOL. (I can say that as my wife’s side of the family is Welsh). But what I can glean from the videos is very helpful. Thank you for all the information you provide.

Gareth, What filter size (case magnetic) are you using with the Nikon 14-30mm? Are you able to stack the magnetic filters without vignetting?
@GarethDanks
@GarethDanks 3 года назад
Hey man. No! Haha. I was wrong.. I was using the holder and 100mm. Apologies. Realised when I did the broll. Sorry
@bosiefoobar
@bosiefoobar 3 года назад
that's my setup. 95mm and it becomes stackable without vignetting.

I will not call that cheating. Our cameras nowadays are very sophisticated but they are still not as good as your eyes so we have to compensate for that in LR. So as long you are true at what you saw in place in edit I think it is ok

A drone is perfect for taking panos. This early morning picture og Oslo is about 12 pictures stiched together: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10157767549797681&set=a.264263437680&type=3

I think its only really cheating if you consider the same for using a grad? You captured both images at virtually the same time. At least this way avoids adding a permanent darkening to the top of the image and into the lighthouse / rocks at the top. I ditched all my grads years ago - really don't see the point in spending £1000s on glass then sticking a grad in front of it. They also mist up on cold mornings and just add far to much faffing around.

@@GarethDanks Personally, for me, one exposure is a reflection of true photography. Can you imagine Ansel Adams today..? He'd lose his hat! o.O :D
@GarethDanks
@GarethDanks 3 года назад
Ansel did a lot of post processing. I’m willing to bet he’s use the tools available today too. Tho I agree with your sentiment. Being a purist can limit creativity and get in the way tho. Plus done right most wont know. Unfortunately our images would suffer and look less impressive compared to tho who adopt and embrace. I feel digital and film have that separation. Not sure I see the point fighting it. I just know where my limits are. Street photography i hardly edit. Thanks mate. Interesting subject. Might do a video haha
